Inter manager Luciano Spalletti reflected on Inter’s 6-2 win over Benevento that secured their passage to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals and firstly spoke on their opponents performance.
“Should Benevento be happy with their performance? Yes they should and I told their manager that at the end of the match,” Spalletti explained in an interview with Inter TV post-match.
“When we went 4-0 up there was a risk that we just assumed the match was over but Benevento were always trying to catch up, it was a real match and a difficult one at that.”
Spalletti then spoke on the performance of Inter.
“They proved to be professionals in the way in which they approached this week. In these games there is a risk that you lower your quality because of the opponent and get embarrassed like we were last year [against Pordenone] so this result is a step forward.
“Ranocchia, Padelli, Candreva, Gagliardini all did very well. They finished the match well, without forcing me to make different changes, and I will congratulate them tonight and also tomorrow in the locker room.”
He concluded the interview by speaking on having to play the game behind closed doors.
“I did not like it. It’s not what football is about and it is not fun and you do not want to be in a stadium like that.”
