Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has categorically ruled out a move for Inter striker Mauro Icardi, despite reports this morning the Partenopei were ‘dreaming’ of his arrival.
Gazzetta dello Sport earlier reported Napoli would make a serious attempt to lure Icardi to the Stadio San Paolo, albeit acknowledging they faced a struggle to convince the player to accept.
However, De Laurentiis denied all interest for the 26-year-old when intercepted by Sport Mediaset, telling them: “No, I’m not buying Icardi.”
The TV station later wrote on their site: “Given Inter’s asking price of €60-70 million there had been talk of a swap deal with Lorenzo Insigne, but the Napoli owner denied everything.”
Insigne confirmed his desire to stay at Napoli last week in any case, quashing any possibility of a switch to San Siro.
Icardi is expected to reject all offers from other clubs in the coming weeks in an attempt to block Inter’s transfer business and ensure he remains a key player next season.
