Populous Director Zoppini: “Our Plan For Inter & AC Milan’s Stadium Is Unique, It Can Only Be In Milan”

Alessandro Zoppini has spoken further on the Populous group’s plans for Inter and AC Milan’s proposed new stadium that will replace San Siro.

There have been calls made for San Siro to be renovated but Zoppini believes renovation can only happen so many times.

“In reality it will be the fourth generation of stadiums in the San Siro distrct, after San Siro was built in 1926, then renovated in 1956 and then again in 1990, they are all different,” he said in an interview with Milan based news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.”

“The Meazza is like a beautiful car from the 1970s which someone becomes attached to but at the same time it pollutes, is inconvenient and is not efficient. You cannot always change it, at a certain point you have to replace it.

“Our stadium is half the size. It will be 30 metres tall instead of 60 and will be surrounded by rows of trees. We have two sounds engineers involved with our project and noise will be reduced by 60%.

“Inside the stadium, fans will be closer to the pitch than ever before whilst outside there will be 22 acres of park-land. It is a unique stadium and one than can only be in Milan.”
