Italian journalist Matteo Marani spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia yesterday about the situation at Inter following their Champions League disappointment against Borussia Dortmund earlier this week.
“I think a lot of the way that Conte lost Inter in Dortmund was infuriating. He never gives up, he doesn’t want to lose, and he’s let off all his anger and frustration.”
“Afterwards he talked to the management and re-calibrated the thoughts he gave when he was hot. He also complained to Juventus, and Chelsea as well. He wants the maximum, he gives the maximum and he demands the maximum.”
“He cradles the idea of getting to win. I’d be curious to understand Inter’s strategy in January. Conte wants experienced players like Vidal and Giroud because he wants to try and win right away. He’s right, he’s for excellence and he wants that. Inter has structural and depth limits and you can see that with today’s bench.”
Marani then spoke about Inter’s attacking duo of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.
“Against Sassuolo Inter had the game closed, Dortmund’s comeback was important. Inter were passive and also there was the strength of the Germans. The small blackouts are there and on this, Conte must be very careful.”
“Lautaro and Lukaku are Inter’s stars, I find it hard to separate them, one benefits from the other. Lautaro has made a further growth in this season, he has found a space he didn’t have, and, in these spaces, he gets to score a lot.”
Finally, the Italian journalist spoke about Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta.
“A manager must be rational and detach himself from the emotional side. A navigated man like Marotta will ponder well, he will look at the balance sheet.”
