Napoli striker Dries Mertens is linked to either a January or June move to Inter, according to multiple reports from the Italian press today.
In today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, it’s reported that the 32-year-old Belgian forward is not close to reaching an agreement with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis for a contract renewal, with his leadership of the squad’s protest about the training retreat pushing a potential deal even further away.
Furthermore, the report adds, Mertens is a good friend of Inter striker Romelu Lukaku, who may convince him to join and help the Nerazzurri keep up the pressure on the Bianconeri in the race for the league title.
A report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport confirms this, adding that some sources are already suggesting that the Nerazzurri have already reached an agreement with Mertens, whose contract expires with the Partenopei next June.
Inter could offer the 32-year-old forward a two-year contract – with an option for a third season – with a salary of around €6 million plus bonuses per season.
