Inter Captain Samir Handanovic: “We Played Against A Strong Team, A Draw Was The Right Result”

Inter captain Samir Handanovic spoke to gathered reporters in the San Siro mixed zone last night, after the Nerazzurri’s tough 1-1 draw against Atalanta with Italian media outlet FcInterNews reporting his statement.

First, the goalkeeper spoke about his first penalty save since April 2017.

“So much time has passed, today was the night. When a goalkeeper saves a penalty it’s almost always decisive if it’s a game like this, an important episode in the economy of the game. But I think it wasn’t just that, there were many other things.”

The 35-year-old then touched on the difficulties the squad faced last night.

“We had a good first half, taking the game well. In the second half we went down and they put us under a little bit. Maybe we have to manage the games differently, even thinking about the next ones.”

He thought the draw was the correct result.

“We play to win, always. We’re Inter. In football then there are games where you have to draw, we played against a strong team, I think it’s the right result.”

The Nerazzurri captain touched on what was missing from the game.

“Yes, we had a chance to counterattack and we made the wrong choice or pass. But Atalanta put some of their own in the game.”

Finally, Handanovic spoke about the return game against Atalanta.

“If possible, I hope to improve the result.”
