Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “We Must Consider Ourselves Very Satisfied, We Held Our Own”

Inter coach Antonio Conte discussed the Nerazzurri’s 1-1 draw against Atalanta last night in an interview with Italian broadcaster Inter TV.

“I had very positive reactions. We have to admit that today we faced a great team, who started working with Gasperini four years ago, every year they added physically strong players. Atalanta are to be considered a great team, who can challenge everyone.”

The 50-year-old Italian coach then spoke about how the team played despite their missing players.

“We must consider ourselves very satisfied, we had Skriniar, Barella, Vecino and D’Ambrosio unavailable, but despite that we held our own. Honour and credit to the guys, this is the road we have set out on, we must continue trying to have Atalanta as a reference as regards the desire to attack the opponent.”

The former Juventus and Chelsea coach touched on the difficulties the squad faced.

“We were a little short of energy in the final minutes of the game, we were winning, then the fact of defending changed the result. But I’m very happy. I feared this match, I had great respect for an opponent who are in the best times of their season.”

Finally, Conte spoke about the Nerazzurri’s project.

“Atalanta over the years have introduced strong players, who use intensity and technique as their best weapons. We’ve only been working for five and a half months, some situations have changed, let’s not forget that we’re trying to rebuild and be credible this year, to try to stay there, to fight, to make sure the league doesn’t end in December. That is the objective of Inter, Lazio and Atalanta. From now until the next few years, the Bergamo based club will be bothering everyone.”
