High on confidence Inter were brought back down to earth thanks to a disciplined counter-attacking performance by an under pressure Napoli team.
Inter were timid as usual in the first half and started the second with all the vigour they could muster up but were caught cold by a good counter attacking move. Inter have a huge task of overturning this at the San Paolo in 20 days time.
Daniele Padelli – 5.5: Didn’t have much to do until the end of the first half. Big save kept Inter in the game. Still doesn’t look confident at all. Couldn’t do much on the goal.
Milan Skriniar – 5.5: The early yellow card made him a bit more watchful. If he can improve the distribution and the tempo he would be a complete defender.
Stefan de Vrij – 6.5 : Continued his purple patch, makes central defending look elegant and easy. Napoli didn’t create much to make him work overtime like last Sunday.
Alessandro Bastoni – 6: Was caught out of position once where Padelli had to make a save, other than that was good game by Bastoni. He’s not even 21 years old yet.
Victor Moses – 5.5: Still looks rusty and like a new signing. Some more time training with the squad can remedy that. Started the second half with vigour, will improve surely.
Nicolo Barella – 5.5 : Gattuso’s tactic of staying deep meant that the midfield was nullified in the first half, not much time on the ball to make a difference. Unfortunate.
Marcelo Brozovic – 6: Could only get involved when he came deep to get the ball off de Vrij until the break. Much more involved in the second half but couldn’t affect the game.
Stefano Sensi – 5: Working his way back to fitness and confidence. His injury doesn’t exist anymore, just needs the swagger back and it will come with more minutes.
Cristiano Biraghi – 6: Young’s arrival has magically made Biraghi more dynamic. Looked much better going forward, the hesitation doesn’t help when chasing the game.
Lautaro Martinez – 6.5: Some early skirmishes but kept troubling Napoli’s defence with very little service. The referee decided not to blow his whistle in his favor at all.
Romelu Lukaku – 5: Romelu didn’t manage to get in the game at all in the first half. In the second half he was pushed wider but Napoli’s defenders never let him out of sight.
Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6.5: Brought some spark off the bench first as a central defender and then as a wingback in a 4 man defence. Constantly attacked Napoli’s left flank causing trouble.
Christian Eriksen – 5.5: Eriksen with another appearance off the bench. Didn’t manage to stamp his authority but as usual made the ball tick. Looks much more integrated.
Alexis Sanchez – 5.5: Should have taken that shot first time instead of turning inside from Eriksen’s assist. Did not have the same drive as he did on the weekend.
Antonio Conte – 5: Yet another game where Inter are timid in the first half and come out all guns blazing. Surely this is an instruction. Attacking subs too late tonight
Gianpaolo Calvarese – 4: Nobody would complain if he sent Manolas off or checked Callejon’s clear elbow. The general attitude towards Inter was very, very negative.
Inter – 5: Not the worst result in the world considering the victory in Naples earlier this season, however need to gather their thoughts quickly for the Olimpico.
Agree? Disagree? How much did you age during the game?
