In an interview with Belgian news outlet Walfoot.be, former Belgian national team striker Emile Mpenza has sang the praises of compatriot, Inter striker Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku has been one of the best strikers in not only Italy and Europe but worldwide since completing a club record transfer to Inter from Manchester United this past Summer.
The former Chelsea striker, who joined Inter on a contract until the end of the 2023/24 season, has netted 21 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions to date for the Nerazzurri.
Lukaku has gained many plaudits for recovering his best form in Milan but some have been critical of his choice to leave the Premier League for Serie A.
“There will always be people in favour and against this type of choice, because Serie A is considered weaker than the Premier League, but I think he made a good choice. He is playing and scoring a lot,” Mpenza remarked in the interview.
Mpenza then went on to urge the 26-year-old to ignore the detractors and explained how he dealt with the detractors during his 18 year playing career that saw him represent the likes of Schalke, Hamburg and Manchester City.
“Romelu must not listen to his detractors. We footballers have to deal with these situations. The more I was criticised, the more I scored and improved. Always. They are just jealous. There is always something negative to say rather than remember the positives.”
