Un’intuizione risultata decisiva nella rincorsa per la Champions: Ausilio bravo a sceglierlo, Spalletti a riportarlo in forma. Difficile, allora, che possano entrare in scena rivali di livello né che Rafinha resti in Catalunya. Tant’è vero che ieri a Napoli il consulente per l’estero blaugrana Ariedo Brai­da ha tenuto la porta aperta: «L’Inter? È possibile. Si vedrà»

Inter bound Lautaro Martinez has confirmed that he will join the Nerazzurri right away following the club’s qualification for next season’s Champions League.

“Inter qualified for the Champions League next season and wanted me right away. This decision closes my chapter with Racing and starts the one with Inter. The Nerazzurri’s Champions League qualification decided everything,” the Argentine starlet revealed to Sportia.

The 20-year-old was greeted at the airport by many Inter fans before he underwent his Inter medical on Friday and he admitted that he must use this to his advantage.

“Everything was very nice on Friday. The meeting with all the fans who started calling my name was really nice. I have to take advantage of this affection and gain confidence and start this adventure in the best way possible.”

Martinez scored no less than 17 goals in 25 appearances for Racing Club this term and has earned himself comparisons to some of world football’s top strikers as a result.

Lega Serie A’s referee designator Nicola Rizzoli has came out and said he believes Daniele Orsato did not met the expected standards with his controversial performance in Juventus’ 3-2 win over Inter at San Siro.

Orsato made a number of mistakes but Rizzoli was not keen to discuss individual mistakes but rather his performance on the whole.

“I prefer not to talk about individual incidents because it would only create controversy. Everyone make mistakes, and then we can say that he didn’t officiate Inter-Juventus in the way that we’d expect from a referee of his quality.”

Orsato did not referee another game after with many believing he was being punished but Rizzoli moved to explain the reasoning behind this.

“There’s no guilty conscience, but anyone can make mistakes. He wasn’t assigned another Serie A game because he already had commitments abroad, and on the last day of the season he had his sons’ communion.”

He concluded the interview with Radio CRC by backing Orsato and explaining how VAR works.

“Orsato is and remains one of the best Italian and European referees, there’s no doubt about his quality.

“I’m interested in clarifying so people understand when VAR can intervene. The fact is that the referee applies a disciplinary decision, that doesn’t mean VAR can’t intervene and so it’s not correct to say that after the referee’s decision VAR is out of the game. If there are clear situations that endanger the safety of an opponent, then VAR can intervene.”

Sime Vrsaljko has poured cold water on the rumours linking him with a move to Inter or anywhere else this summer.

“If you’d told me at the start of the season that in May I would be second in the league, with a Europe League medal, with no more injury problems and an extended contract, I would never have believed it. I hadn’t played much, I had injuries, and I seriously thought that could indicate I needed a change of scenery,” he told Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti.

The former Sassuolo man, who had been put on Inter’s shortlist in the likely event that they are unable to keep a hold of Joao Cancelo, then admitted that he is currently satisfied with his current situation.

“Fortunately though everything changed in that respect, the club gave me a lot of confidence, refused important offers and never even considered talking about a transfer. They extended my contract and clearly showed they have faith in me, so I’m satisfied with every situation here at Atletico right now.”

Erick Thohir has admitted it could take as much as €400 million for another Italian club to tear Mauro Icardi away from Inter.

“Icardi has a release clause of €110m, any club thinking of paying it has to speak to the Inter executives. In Italy he would cost much more than that figure, he could cost €200m, €300m or even €400m,” the Inter president told TopSkor amid recent reports linking Inter’s captain with a move to arch-rivals Juventus.

The Indonesian, who initially bought a controlling stake in the club from Massimo Moratti before giving that up to current owners Suning a couple of years ago, then appeared to leak information about Inter’s plans for a new contract for Icardi.

“At the moment the release clause is still €110m, the increase to €150m has not yet been agreed with the player,” he said.

Since arriving from Sampdoria back in 2013, Icardi has been a highly consistent performer and has now scored over a century of goals for Inter.
