Inter have recommenced their pursuit of Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Belgian was one of Luciano Spalletti’s key transfer targets last summer but neither Roma nor Nainggolan himself were willing to countenance a move, forcing the Nerazzurri to go after other players instead.
However Thursday’s private meeting between sporting director Piero Ausilio and the player’s agent Alessandro Beltrami, along with the praise Spalletti reserved for him during his post-season press conference, leads the Milanese publication to believe that Inter will make another attempt to sign Nainggolan this summer.
“Spalletti had already put Nainggolan at the top of his transfer list last summer, but there weren’t the conditions to satisfy his request,” Gazzetta write.
“Now the situation is different. Rafinha may have impressed everyone but his future at the club is in doubt due to Inter’s financial problems [related to Financial Fair Play], which is why they are interested to find out whether they can enter into talks with Roma this time around.
“It is thought Nainggolan would cost €40 million, but at this stage the important thing is to obtain the player’s consent for a move. The rest would come afterwards.
“For sure though yesterday’s appointment [between Ausilio and Beltrami] will have pleased Spalletti, who said in his press conference that ‘Ausilio knows full well what we need to do, despite the fact we need to balance the books as well.
“Barella is a good player, and so is Nainggolan.”
