What will the future of Mauro Icardi be? According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the situation has been clear for some time.

“Inter is ready to give Icardi an increase to 6 million per year plus bonuses, with an extension to 2022. Despite Wanda’s pressure, it will be discussed at the beginning of June, with patience”.

However, today, Corriere dello Sport also spoke about the Captain’s future. The Roman newspaper, in comparison to Gazzetta, offers less certainties. “It’s exactly how it happened two Summers ago, Wanda has returned with a thunder to get a renewal for her husband and client, Icardi. Inter were annoyed by Wanda’s use of the media and it could negatively affect the attitudes at the negotiating table in June because Inter wanted to keep everyone calm. The Club did not intend to tussle but the statements from the wife-agent does not give them much choice, the tone of the negotiations has already been set. So, it’s either a renewal or goodbye for Icardi, even with a contract valid until 2021.

Ronaldo, speaking to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, gave credit to the current Inter squad for defeating Lazio and helping the club overcome the disappointment of 2002.

“They have avenged that fateful May 5th, and for that, I thank them. It was a great gift for the Inter fans and for us players who were unable to deliver in the past. We wanted it so much, only those on the field will ever know just what it meant. Although the team didn’t win the Scudetto on Sunday, qualifying for the Champions League means that the club has returned to where it is supposed to be.”

He continued to review Sunday night’s dramatic 3-2 win over Lazio that secured Inter’s place in next year’s Champions League.

“At the decisive moment of the match, Inter gave something more than their opponents. It has happened a few times this season, but not always. Certainly, it has almost never happened in recent years. A friend of mine told me that, in previous years, Inter would definitely have lost a match such as this. But this time they won, and that makes all the difference.”

Il Fenomeno also spoke highly of Luciano Spalletti and the effect he has had on Inter this term.

I do not know in detail what he did for the club this year, but I am convinced that coaches do not change much over time. When I was in Italy, Spalletti was formidable with some very strong ideas. With Roma, I’m told he often made the right changes to win the match. For me, a centre-forward can do well on their own (as I often did) but sometimes they need support. Against Lazio, Spalletti made sure the team provided support to Icardi.

Ronaldo then went on to speak on current Inter striker and captain Mauro Icardi in further detail.

Icardi is a player who thinks about scoring goals more than anything. He would be the first to admit, I hope, that all players can always find ways to improve but I do not understand those who question a player who scored 29 goals. The goals he has scored at the most decisive times are more frequent than the ones he misses. Twenty nine goals in Italy is a lot – trust me, I know!

“You must ask him! I do not think that Inter have any doubts about the player, how could they? To make a champion team, the club must keep all of its strongest players. To not give continuity to this successful season would be a waste of effort.”

He concluded the interview by discussing the transfer market and how Champions League will affect it.

Indeed, Ausilio will have some more freedom, but the money from the Champions League does not necessarily mean big purchases right away. Before attracting these big players, Inter must first show that they are truly back. The Champions League is the most important cup that is played because it strengthens Inter’s image and makes them an important brand in world football. That said, qualifying for the Champions League is not everything. Overcoming Juventus and winning the scudetto is difficult, but that is what Inter must be aiming for.”

Luciano Spaletti and Mauro Icardi are destined to extend their current contracts for another two years with both getting increases to their respective salaries as per Premium Sport.

After defeating Lazio on Sunday and securing a spot in the 2018/19 Champions League, Inter is ready to reinforce the squad for next season which aside from doing business on the transfer market also means locking down assets.

Premium Sport reports that the agreement with the Tuscan coach could very soon be officially announced. Indeed, an extension to 2021 may have already been agreed upon by both parties quite some time ago, but it was the desire of the former Roma manager to keep it from the public until the end of the Serie A season as to not distract Inter on their path to qualify for the Champions League. As for Icardi, the wait will likely be a bit longer, however the offices of Corso Vittorio Emmanuele are overflowing with optimism on this front.

L’Ufficio Stampa dell’Inter fa sapere che è stata programmata l’ultima conferenza stampa stagionale di Spalletti

PARLA SPALLETTI – Manca ancora l’ufficialità formale, ma l’Inter in queste ore ha fissato la conferenza stampa di fine stagione con protagonista Luciano Spalletti, che parlerà domani – giovedì 24 maggio 2018 – a partire dalle ore 16.00 circa presso la sala stampa del Centro Sportivo “Suning in Memoria di Angelo Moratti”. Salvo sorprese, nel corso della conferenza di domani non dovrebbe essere annunciato ufficialmente il rinnovo di contratto, comunque già fatto intendere in serata sia da Spalletti sia dalla proprietà, quindi probabilmente si farà “solo” il punto sulla stagione dell’Inter appena terminata con il piazzamento in Champions League, dato che l’allenatore nerazzurro ha preferito non presentarsi davanti ai microfoni dopo Lazio-Inter.

GESTIONE PESSIMA – «Stefan de Vrij? Sono stati fatti tanti errori nel gestire questa vicenda, al di là di quella che uno può considerare scorrettezza o meno della notizia che è uscita. Secondo me il primo errore, e non ho problemi a dirlo perché poi l’ho detto anche al diretto interessato, l’ha fatto Simone Inzaghi con quelle dichiarazioni a caldo dopo Crotone. Lì il giocatore si è sentito un po’ ferito, come quasi che la sua professionalità fosse stata messa in discussione, de Vrij è il tuo uomo più forte e più rappresentativo della difesa. Giovedì è stata la giornata campale e decisiva, Inzaghi voleva far giocare de Vrij tant’è che lui parla con i giocatori più rappresentativi della squadra a parlare con de Vrij, quasi a convincerlo a giocare contro l’Inter perché lui aveva questo dubbio. Nella stessa giornata di giovedì c’è il confronto con Igli Tare, dove a nome della società diceva di volerlo far giocare con l’Inter, e poi manda il messaggio ai compagni dove dice di voler giocare e sentirsela. Giovedì è quando la situazione viene sbloccata, Inzaghi dopo le dichiarazioni di domenica non voleva fare a meno del giocatore più importante che aveva in difesa».
