Inter boss Roberto Mancini says fourth-place finish is ‘what we deserve’

With one game remaining, Inter are assured of finishing fourth in Serie A this season.
Inter manager Roberto Mancini says fourth place is "what we deserve" after a disappointing second half to the season.
The Nerazzurri, who spent time atop Serie A earlier this campaign, will miss out on qualification for the Champions League next season, though they secured their Europa League place on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Empoli.
Mancini chose to look on the bright side while acknowledging that Inter only have themselves to blame for letting the top spots slip away.

Perisic impresses as Inter secure Europa League football

Ivan Perisic scored his seventh Serie A goal of the season as Inter ensured they will finish fourth.
On a warm day in Milan, the Piazza Duomo had a sluggish yet content feel to it. Few Empoli fans made the trip and whether it was the weather, or the apathy towards the season, the San Siro filled up slowly.
The melancholy atmosphere was soon enlivened as the Curva Sud — not the raucous Curva Nord — unveiled banners that mocked both Juventus and Milan and a more spritely affair continued when the teams came onto the pitch.
The stadium was, it seemed, awoken from its lethargy and the atmosphere…

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti reacts to the Inter-Udinese game which made history by becoming the first Serie A game to start with all foreign players.

Both AC Milan and Inter Milan will be left to reflect on happier times in the Champions League, with neither side likely to qualify for next season's competition.

Inter Milan can offer a vision of their future against Empoli

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti reacts to the Inter-Udinese game which made history by becoming the first Serie A game to start with all foreign players.

The final home game of season sees Inter Milan welcome Empoli in a game that offers little in respect to the table but will mean much to the fans. After a shambolic performance in the 2-0 defeat against Lazio last week, Inter boss Roberto Mancini lambasted his players for showing little of the character that he knows they have.

Now under the lights of the San Siro, the squad have an opportunity to redeem themselves and show how this team can perform. The only question is whether they should…

Inter Milan poor from back to front vs. Lazio as the Europa League beckons

Inter Milan and Roberto Mancini will be left wondering what if after another loss in a disappointing season.
With Europa League qualification secure the Nerazzurri travelled to Rome to face Lazio while hoping to keep their slender Champions League dreams alive. With Roma not in action until Monday, it was a chance to put pressure on the Giallorossi even if it did seem like a lost cause. More importantly Roberto Mancini wanted to finish the season in a strong position, in turn showing the steps forward his team have taken this term.
The 2-0 defeat was disappointing as it brought to the surface all the problems…

Inter Milan with plenty of reasons to finish strong in Serie A

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti reacts to the Inter-Udinese game which made history by becoming the first Serie A game to start with all foreign players.

For Inter Milan, a spot in next season's Europa League is guaranteed, there has been a vast improvement on last season's finish and the structure and future of the club looks bright. The club is undeniably going in the right direction, but there is still work to do. The team has not been able to achieve their preseason goal of reaching the Champions League and the squad is still not in the coaches' mould just yet, hence the style of play has been widely questioned. As the Nerazzurri prepare to…
