Italian Report Highlights 6 Reasons Why Inter Can Believe In Winning The Serie A Title

In today’s print edition, Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have highlighted six reasons why Inter can believe they have a chance at winning the Serie A title this term.

Inter currently sit in third place in the Serie A table six points behind league leaders Juventus with 12 games left to go this season.

The first reason Inter can believe they have a shot at winning the title is the fact that they have a far easier schedule than each of fellow title competitors Juventus and Lazio up until match day 34, which could be a decisive day for where the title ends up as Inter face Roma whilst Juventus and Lazio face eachother.

The second reason is because the entire Inter team are on the same wavelength as manager Antonio Conte is and everyone at Inter is rowing in the same direction.

The third reason is Inter are seen by many as underdogs and psychologically this will help out a lot as Inter will not have the pressure of having to win every game.

The fourth reason is the quality that Inter have in the squad. Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are back scoring, Christian Eriksen’s performances have notably improved in recent matches and an eye must also be kept on Alexis Sanchez.

The fifth reason is the energy that Inter now have. Leading up to the season being brought to a halt, Inter were sluggish and struggling but appear reinvigorated both in terms of spirit and physically.

The final reason is the hunger that Inter posses and their willingness to do everything they can with them knowing they cannot afford to slip up now.

The Italian FA Come Up With Guidelines For Handling Expiring Contracts

The Italian football federation (FIGC) have come up with a series of guidelines in relation to expiring contracts and loan deals with obligations or options to buy according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, the season has had to be extended by a few months and as a result there was a lot of uncertainty regarding the situation with contracts until now.

Players have been separated into two categories: players with contracts expiring on June 30 and players at clubs on loan with options or obligations to buy.

When it comes to the first category, as well as foreign loan deals, extensions are subject to the player and the club signing a specific federal form and should an agreement be reached, the contract will then expire on September 1.

As for players at clubs on loan with option or obligation to buy deals, all have been automatically extended until August 31, when the 2019/20 season will end.

Italian Journalist Mario Sconcerti: “Christian Eriksen Is Changing Inter”

Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has admitted to being left impressed by Inter in their two most recent outings.

The Nerazzurri drew 1-1 with Napoli in the Coppa Italia semi final second leg two weekends ago and triumphed 2-1 over Sampdoria this past weekend as the 2019/20 Serie A season got back underway after a three month Coronavirus enforced stop.

“Inter impressed me, yes, and it’s not the first time, even in the Italian Cup they had played well. Eriksen makes a difference against such opponents,” he explained in an interview with Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

He then went on to speak highly of January transfer window recruit Eriksen, who has been one of Inter’s best performers in the past two matches, with him having scored once and tallied an assist too and performed much more how he was expected to.

“He knows how to dribble and he shoots a lot. Against difficult opponents it can be more complicated but Eriksen is a man who is changing Inter.

“I think, and even though I considers him a great player, without Brozovic, Eriksen has given more speed and lightness to the Inter game.”

He then spoke on the Inter team as a whole and stressed that the team is current complete and it will be difficult for the Nerazzurri team to improve.

“We are talking about a good team but they are not extraordinary. They are already complete and it is difficult to improve as it is not easy to put other players into the team. They are all doing well, from Lukaku to Candreva, who seems reborn.”

In conclusion he was asked whether he thinks Inter have a limitation to their game: “Inter have a hard time closing out games, they have to do more in this regard.”

Fernando Muslera: “Diego Godin Clearly Worried By His Current Situation At Inter”

Diego Godin’s Uruguayan national team teammate Fernando Muslera has admitted his compatriot is worried by his lack of playing time at Inter.

Veteran central defender Godin arrived at Inter on a free transfer this past Summer following the expiration of his contract with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

He initially played regularly but prior to the Coronavirus enforced suspension of the season, he found himself out of the team as he lost his place to youngster Alessandro Bastoni.

“I don’t know what Diego is going through at Inter very well, but he is clearly worried. He is a stalwart of the national team and needs to play, I’m sure this situation will be resolved shortly,” Muslera remarked in an interview with Uruguayan radio station Tirando Paredes earlier on today.

The current Galatasaray goalkeeper then went on to speak about another compatriot of his, Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani.

Inter Coach Conte: “We Must Play Excellently Against Sassuolo & Bring Home 3 Points”

In an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, Inter manager Antonio Conte has looked ahead to tomorrow night’s match at home to Sassuolo.

“The game is not a foregone conclusion, Sassuolo did well against Atalanta and created several opportunities that they did not capitalise on,” he began the interview.

“We will have to be careful because we will challenge a healthy team, who have a proactive idea of football. It will be necessary to have the right spirit and the right determination, it will not be easy because we will play after a few days but we know that we will have to play an excellent game and bring home the three points.”

“We have to be very wary, because Sassuolo are in good shape and above all have a very positive, attacking idea of football. We need the right spirit and determination, which won’t be easy just a few days after playing Sampdoria.”

He then spoke on how Sassuolo play and admitted to knowing their strengths and weaknesses.

“Sassuolo like to play the ball, so we must be strong on the flanks and attack them with the right timing, because otherwise they are very dangerous on the counter. We haven’t had time to prepare for the game, but we know Sassuolo’s strengths and weaknesses already.”

He was then asked whether he will rotate the team that started the match against Sampdoria.

“With this calendar and the heat, there has to be rotation. I can’t squeeze the players dry, as you can’t just rest them at the end and get that energy back.”

Conte proceeded to confirm that midfield trio Marcelo Brzoovic, Stefano Sensi and Matias Vecino will miss out against the Neroverdi side.

“Marcelo Brozovic and Stefano Sensi are out, while Matias Vecino also has this knee problem that tormented him all season. It’s inevitable we’ve got few alternatives in midfield, so we’ll have to consider everything.”

Next Conte discussed the Serie A title race which involves themselves, Juventus and Lazio.

“Juventus and Lazio have more points than we do and therefore have done better so far, that’s just a fact. It also means they have a greater margin of error, whereas for us, every game is decisive and we can’t get anything wrong if we’re to keep causing them problems to the very end.

“We are doing well and laying the foundations for an Inter that is solid in the present and the future.”

He concluded by speaking on playing in empty stadiums and whether it impacts the way he goes about things.

“I participate a lot in the game, both with and without the fans. My players are used to hearing me, it is normal that when the fans are there it is not easy to get the message across but we need people at the stadium. Without fans I need to be very careful because sometimes a bad word can escape my mouth [laughs].”

Inter head in to tomorrow night’s match sitting in third place in the table whilst Sassuolo come into the match sitting in 12th place. Inter won the reverse fixture at Sassuolo’s MAPEI Stadium back in October 4-3.

20-year-old Colidio initially found it hard to break into the Sint-Truiden team but managed to break in and get a prolonged spell in the side before the Belgian football season was curtailed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

During the loan he has made 16 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored three goals and tallied seven assists.
