Inter Coach Antonio Conte Explodes At Referee For Booking Lautaro Martinez Against Sampdoria

Inter manager Antonio Conte reacted angrily toward fourth official Luca Pairetto after Lautaro Martinez was given what he felt to be an unjust booking in yesterday’s win over Sampdoria according to a report from Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

Shortly after the second half began at San Siro, referee Maurizio Mariani showed the Argentine national team forward a yellow card despite the fact Lautaro made no connection with Sampdoria midfielder Andrea Bertolacci.

Following the 22-year-old’s booking, Conte turned to Pairetto and made his feelings on the booking more than clear enough.

“Why the yellow card? What the f**k is this, how can you tell him it’s a yellow? How is he a metre away yet you call a yellow card from here? Let me understand, he is the one who is the referee yet you call the yellow card?,” he is quoted as saying to Pairetto by the above source.

Inter won last night’s encounter 2-1 over La Samp. Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring for Inter and Lautaro doubled Inter’s lead which meant Inter went into the half time interval 2-0 up.

Despite chances to extend their lead, Inter failed to do so and Sampdoria managed to pull one back but Inter managed to see the game out and secure the three points which has now put them within six points of league leaders Juventus with 12 games to play.

Inter To Use ‘Barella Formula’ To Sign Sandro Tonali & Will Sign Matteo Darmian From Parma

Inter are thinking about doing a Nicolo Barella style deal for Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Inter have been courting Tonali for some time now and could well do a loan with obligation to buy plus add-ons linked to appearances and wins offer for Tonali, who is valued similarly to how Cagliari valued Barella last Summer.

Various reports in the media have stated that Brescia president and owner Massimo Cellino is adamant that he will not let Tonali go for anything less than €50 million.

The report from the Rome based news outlet goes on to explain that Matteo Darmian will also be joining Inter in the upcoming transfer window.

Inter helped Parma to acquire the Italian full back from Manchester United this past Summer and he is expected to join the Nerazzurri as per an agreement between the two clubs.

Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “I Believe In The Scudetto & The Team Believes In It Too”

In an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, Inter manager Antonio Conte reflected on last night’s 2-1 win over lowly Sampdoria as the 2019/20 Serie A season got back underway.

An absolutely dominant first half performance had Inter deservedly winning 2-0 at the half time interval and although performance levels dropped and Sampdoria pulled one back, Conte’s men were able to see out the match and pick up an all important three points.

“First of all, I wish to say that there is great sadness for the victims of Covid-19. We are still experiencing an incredible situation, which has left a lot of bitterness,” he began the interview.

“Seeing all these victims in the world is so sad. It has affected everyone and it is difficult to find the words.

“In addition, we are saddened by the loss of a great player in Mario Corso, especially as a man. I was lucky enough to meet him. He was a bright person who loved Inter and was nice to talk with. It was a sudden thing, I am very close to his family.”

Conte proceeded to dissect his side’s performance against La Samp.

“We did everything. It was an excellent performance, we created a lot, but then we only scored two goals. I keep saying to the team that we have to learn to kill our opponent, the same happened in Naples. They went on to the final and we were sat in front of the TV.

“You have to understand the difference in this and read the phases of the game. Emotionally they got back into the game after their goal, not so much in terms of the competition though. For us it was the game of life to still have hope, that is what helps to reach extraordinary goals.”

He then admitted that he and the team are all believing in their title chances despite them sitting down in third at the moment.

“We are six points from the top. I believe and the team believes too. We are in tune with one another, we want to play to the end as it is right for a team like Inter to do so.”

He then spoke on the fact that Inter are facing a further 12 games in quick succession to one another.

“We must count on the whole squad as we will not always be able to play the same players. I am happy with the work done by the boys and with the fact that they believe. Not winning against Sampdoria would have been fatal but by winning we have put pressure on the others.”

He concluded the interview by speaking on January transfer window recruit Christian Eriksen, who started for the second consecutive match last night and once again performed well.

“We worked on a new system and we also worked on integrating the new players. He had arrived not in exceptional physical condition, but I expect even more from him.

“Today he could have scored at least two, he has the quality and therefore he has to make the most of it. Both he and the others have to be even more cynical if we want to fight to the end for something more important.”

Inter’s Christian Eriksen: “We Believe In The Scudetto, Conte Is Right I Should’ve Scored”

Inter attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has admitted playing in behind Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez is great due to the amount of space on the field.

“At the moment there is a lot of space for me, the opponents are scared of Lukaku and Lautaro and all I have to do is create for them,” he explained in an interview with Inter’s official broadcaster Inter TV following on from last night’s 2-1 win over Sampdoria as the 2019/20 Serie A season resumed after a three and a half month stoppage.

The Danish national team player was then asked about Inter manager Antonio Conte wanting him to score more goals.

“Conte wants more goals from me? He’s right, I could have scored on two occasions. I am happy with my assist to Lukaku, but it is clear that I have to improve in scoring goals too.”

Eriksen proceeded to discuss how he has settled in at Inter following his arrival at the club in a circa €20 million deal from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

“Here at Inter I am very well, there is a large group and I was exceptionally welcomed from the beginning. I really like being here, I am also improving in learning the language.”

In conclusion Eriksen spoke on Inter’s chances of winning the Serie A title this term.

“Do we believe in the Scudetto? Yup.”

Following his arrival at Inter, Eriksen has since went on to make 10 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored two goals and provided just as many assists.

Player Ratings Inter 2 – 1 Sampdoria: 3 Needed Points After 2 Beautiful Goals Cap Off 1 Ugly Win

Conte’s Inter continued their season long quest to prove that football is indeed a game of two halves. In the first half, it was Sampdoria’s boys against Inter’s men. Ranieri’s men were left chasing shadows from start till just about the halftime whistle.

But in typical Inter fashion, Sampdoria were let back into the game with their first shot on target and the performance turned wobbly to say the least. This time however Inter held their nerves to bring home 3 important points.

Samir Handanovic – 6: Another one of those nights for Samir where he could bring out his favorite book. Sampdoria didn’t attack in the first half. Tried his best on the goal.

Milan Skriniar – 6.5: Not much work to do defensively but Skriniar used that time to attack. Even setup a brilliant chance for Lukaku. Looked tired towards the end.

Stefan de Vrij – 6: Ranieri clearly instructed his forwards to mark De Vrij, however Stefan still found a way to get involved and give the usual consistent performance.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6.5: Makes coming out of the back look so natural, so easy on the eye. Always looking for a smart interception or a pass. Always involved in the buildup.

Antonio Candreva – 6: Much better performance. The awareness on the Lautaro goal was the exact position he took a shot last weekend in Naples. Decent outing.

Nicolo Barella – 6.5: With his usual partner in crime injured, Barella was tasked with leading from the center circle and he didn’t disappoint in both phases of play.

Roberto Gagliardini – 5.5: Looked rusty. Made a couple of mistakes, but the biggest one was at the end of the first half. Didn’t cost much but still not near his best clearly.

Ashley Young – 6: Consistency is the key, always used the Bastoni overlap well and kept his position defensively. Did well going forward but his team didn’t find him.

Christian Eriksen – 6.5: The Dane continues his purple run, played like an old era number 10. Flashy, meaningful touches of the ball. Went missing in the second half though.

Romelu Lukaku – 7: Slowly getting his rhythm back.Played a huge part in the Lautaro goal as well. Always comes deep to help the midfield out as well. More goals to come.

Lautaro Martinez – 7: Finally scored after a long dry spell either side of the forced stop. Looked lively from the first minute and this performance would please Interisti.

Victor Moses – 5.5: Victor’s performances are all the same. Comes on during the second half has a chance that he shoots over and his crosses are mostly not accurate.

Cristiano Biraghi – 5.5: Cristiano didn’t have much impact on the game at all. The team struggled to break Sampdoria down in his 20 minutes on the pitch.

Borja Valero – 6: Got straight into it from the moment he entered and gave his 100%.Took a booking for the team but his substitution was about giving Eriksen a break.

Alexis Sanchez – N/A: Brings the impact as usual. Ran down the clock very well and showed his experience again. Conte needs to give him more minutes in the next game.

Antonio Conte – 5: Another fantastic first half performance by the team and this time they got 2 goals ahead. The second half was poor as usual and the subs were late.

Maurizio Mariani – 6.5: Apart from being too lenient on Gaston’s fouls there wasn’t much wrong in the refereeing performance tonight. Not many difficult decisions to make.

Inter – 5.5: The second half blues are not because the players have been locked in for 3 months, this was an issue earlier as well. Three important points won.

Inter Legend Mazzola: “Every Year Helenio Herrera Wanted Mario Corso Out & Every Year Angelo Moratti Extended His Contract”

Former Inter forward Sandro Mazzola discussed ex-teammate and friend Mario Corso, who passed away yesterday, in an interview in yesterday’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

First, he discussed how another member of the Grande Inter squad has passed away.

“And the 1960s are 60 years ago now. I didn’t know that Mario was in hospital, so I was even more distressed. Because we shared a long path not only as footballers but also in our later lives. As a Nerazzurri manager, I asked him to go around scouting young players, for whom he had a special eye. And when Corso came to tell me ‘that’s someone to sign, I signed them without the slightest doubt.”

Mazzola touched on how Corso was a pupil of former Inter president Angelo Moratti.

“Our president was crazy about him, he amused him too much. And he often gave him things. I still have in my eyes the Mercedes Pagoda that he gifted at Appiano Gentile. I had a thought about him also. But the whole family, I must say, loved Mariolino. He had a particular character, he was quiet, it was necessary to understand him.”

He talked about how the squad tried to understand the Italian winger.

“We tried to get him into the squad by organizing surveillance. Because at a certain point Mario was sneaking around, so we went after him to find out if he was going to women, to play the horses, or who knows where. Well, we were never able to catch him because he was systematically losing us.”

The 77-year-old Italian commented on how Corso drove the defenders crazy back in the day.

“Eh, he drove them crazy. With the fakes and the ease of playing. I remember at the end of practice Herrera made us help train the goalkeepers. And Mariolino invented a different shot each time, we’d stare at him like we were enchanted.”

Finally, Mazzola talked about how coach Helenio Herrera wanted to sell Corso at many points over the years.

“He put him on the transfer list, yes, then the president arrived and the sporting director Allodi put Corso on the list of confirmed players. One year I was at the headquarters to sign a contract renewal and Mario came out of Moratti’s office, after just renewing his. The president let me in and asked me, ‘so Sandrino, this time too the Wizard will have to put up with Mariolino. What do you think?’ And I replied, ‘I’m happy, I’ll score more goals with him.’ Mariolino, Luisito, Sandrino… For Angelo Moratti, we were all to be pampered.”

Corso, who was nicknamed God’s Left foot due to his impressive ability to strike the ball, passed away yesterday peacefully in hospital, at the age of 78. The Italian spent 16 years of his career with the Nerazzurri, from 1957 to 1973, and won many titles with the club, including four Scudetti, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups.

Exclusive – New Signing Georgios Vagiannidis: “Man City & Monaco Interested But In My Mind There Was Only Inter”

It’s been known for quite some time albeit not having been made official yet, but young Greek fullback Georgios Vagiannidis will play for Inter next season.

But who is the youngster who will follow in the footsteps of Greek legends like Grigoris Georgatos and Giorgos Karagounis and become the fifth Greek player to play for the Nerazzurri?

Greek journalist Antonis Oikonomidis spoke exclusively on behalf of SempreInter.com, with a young fullback who loves LeBron James, who decides on visiting holiday destinations based on how quiet they are, and whose last book he read was written by Greek antique historian Herodotus.

“Until I signed the contract, I was never sure” he begins, whilst we’re walking on the pitch he grew up playing on, near his home in Gerakas.

“At first it seemed and sounded unbelievable, but when I signed [the contract], when everything was sorted out, only then did I believe what had happened and I calmed down” he says about how he experienced the negotiating process with the Nerazzurri.

“This year, throughout the process of negotiating and searching for a new club, I had heard so much. About so many different teams being interested [in me], so I didn’t want to get too excited about Inter. Because I didn’t want to be disappointed if it didn’t work out or something would go wrong.

vagiannidis-1-1024x576.jpg

“So, I tried to stay grounded and very pragmatic from the first moment that Inter’s interest came to my knowledge and I waited calmly to see where it all would end up.”

When did you first learn about Inter’s interest in you?

“Recently, after the quarantine in Greece was lifted. I was initially informed about Inter’s interest by my agents. I was told from the very first moment that this interest was serious. And it was. So, without practically realizing it, I came to negotiate my transfer to a team like Inter.”

Who have you spoken to at Inter during these negotiations?

“I spoke only with Mr. Ausilio, before I signed. He analyzed everything to me regarding the project, the plan Inter has for me, what would be the best option for me.

“[He explained] I’d begin my time at Inter as a member of the first team and clarified that everything regarding my future would be made after a joint decision. Always a consultation with both sides and based on mutual understanding.

“He explained everything about the team to me, the accommodation. Everything that needed to be analyzed and explained he did. And that completely explanatory contact, that analytic approach, was one of the key factors for me to make my decision.”

How long have you signed for? Is there a buy-out clause in the contract?

“I have signed for four years and to be honest I don’t have a clue if a buy-out clause is included or not because, I’m not interested in things like that.

“And, yes, what I agreed to is to play for the first team. To attend the pre-season camp with the first team and from there on we will see.”

However, there can be no doubts as to what Vagiannidis’ personal goal and ambition with this move is. The youngster is adamant that he has come to Inter to fight for a place in the first team.

“To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t even discuss leaving Panathinaikos’ first team, where I had an offer in my hands to renew my contract there. An offer which gave me a very important role in the first squad, in order to leave and go and play for a youth team.

“What I realized in my contacts with Inter’s officials, is that I am going to be part of the first team. I am going there to claim a spot in first team squad.”

Many of Europe’s top clubs were rumored in chasing the coveted youngster but his choice fell on Inter pretty quickly after the Nerazzurri became a viable option.

“Monaco were very serious and at some point, and we were very close to a deal. Manchester City had indeed approached me, we had some discussions, it’s true” he points out when asked about City’s rumored interest.

“LASK Linz were also very persistent and they showed that they really wanted me. In general, there was interest from many many teams.

“But either at some point – for various reasons – we did not move on to the final stage of the negotiations. Or we did not agree with a club about the project they presented.

“[We didn’t agree] on the project concerning my development so as to entice me more than, for example, what Panathinaikos offered for me to stay in Greece.

“But all the thoughts, all the comparisons, whatever I considered an option, all of that vanished immediately after Inter showed up and showed me how serious their interest was.

“[For me] all the other clubs automatically disappeared. After that, there was simply no other thoughts, no ‘competition’, only Inter.

“Even after I knew about Inter’s proposal, I received enquiries by at least ten more clubs. But, as I told you, there was no debate anymore, there was nothing else to think about. In my mind, there was only Inter.”

vagiannidis-1024x614.jpg

So what prompted this strong determination and desire to choose Inter above all these other clubs?

“What I wanted was opportunities, playing time. To play and evolve. But when a team like Inter comes along, you think differently.

“The magnitude of such a club is enormous. The history, the background. Everything counts. And, naturally, the chance for a young player to be able to train daily, even if only training, along such great players, is huge. You cannot deny such a chance, you can’t say no to such a club.”

Did you prefer a specific league? Did you follow the Serie A previously?

“Everything depended on the project that would be offered to me and whether or not it would be good for my development and help me to improve.

“But, retrospectively, yes, Italy was my number 1 choice. I have been learning Italian for 1.5 years, long before Inter emerged. Of course, if a really good project came from another country, I wouldn’t say no, but certainly Italy was at the top of my list.

“Always [followed the Serie A], but even more so, especially lately, for obvious reasons. I like to watch football, especially at such a high level as the Serie A, but I really watch everything that involves football.

When asked to describe himself on the pitch, his strengths and weaknesses, the replies are as quick as they are concrete and to the point.

“I’m a pure right wing back, in every and any formation. I’m a good offensive wing back. I need to improve my crossing, but I believe that I am good without the ball.

“I can move well on the pitch and know how to work nicely and effectively with my teammates. I need to improve defensively. But I’m sure that by coming to play football at Serie A, the home of tactical innovation and proper defensive functionality, I will surely improve.

“I’ll probably have to adapt physically to Serie A’s demands, but I don’t want to rush into things that will cause more trouble than do good.

“I am ready and willing to do anything [to succeed]. And I mean it. Whatever is asked of me, whatever is required in training, in preparation, in everyday life, [I’ll do] everything that is needed to succeed.

“I do not know how I will do it, but what I am sure of is that there is no way that I will not do what I have to do and what I am asked to do. And even more.”

Giorgios-Vagiannidis-SempreInter.com_-1024x734.jpg Photo of Georgios Vagiannidis by Antonis Oikonomidis

The youngster cannot stress this point enough, revealing that since signing the contract he has been preparing himself physically for the day he arrives at Inter.

“My daily schedule now is adjusted in a way so that I can meet Inter’s demands when I join the team. I’m prepared for the whole package, I train five hours a day, I do whatever is needed to be ready and to properly prepare myself.

“Everything in my daily life is already fully adapted to Inter, I don’t think about anything of anything else.

Doesn’t the thought of leaving your home at such a young age, affect you?

“I expect it to be difficult at the beginning, it’s normal I guess, especially for someone like me who is very attached to his family, really close [to my family].

“And generally, I am a ‘stay at home guy’, a family guy. But I know that moving abroad, away from my family is something that I have to go through and I’m sure as time goes by it will only get better.”

A youngster who describes himself as a stay at home family guy but isn’t afraid of leaving the club he grew up at to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

“I’ve been there [at Panathinaikos] for 10 years, since I was a little kid. Played for all the youth teams, and moved up to the first team last season.

“To be honest, I expected more opportunities this season, but I truly believe that everything, every experience, does some good in the end.

“Panathinaikos gave me a lot. The owner tried really hard to keep me there, but I had decided to leave as I knew that moving abroad would be the right step for my career.”

His close ties to his childhood club, Panathinaikos are still there not just emotionally but literally, as his younger brother, Aimilios, plays for the U-15 team.

“He’s a midfielder and extremely talented. I’m trying to advise him as much as possible. I attend his games, discuss with him about what he can do to improve, where he should work and evolve. He’s really good.”

Let’s imagine that we will have this conversation again in 1 year. What would you like to tell me after your first season at Inter?

“I would like to say that I am one of the two regular right backs in Inter’s first team squad.

You would accept a back-up role?

“No, but it’s something that I can accept in my first season [laughs]. Seriously speaking, the main thing that I’d like to be able to tell you then is that I feel like a better player, that I am a better player.

“That I would have improved every part of my game. Mentally, physically, tactically, everything. And I’m sure it will be like that because I will be among the best footballers in the world.

“You must improve when you’re in such an environment, in such conditions, in such company and for me, that’s the most important thing, improvement. Everything else will follow.”

Do you have a favorite team outside of Greece? Who do you think is the best right back in the world?

“From now it’s Inter, but before the Nerazzurri appeared in my life, it was Manchester United. And Borussia Dortmund’s Achraf Hakimi. For me, he’s the best right now.”

Which famous player would you say your playing style is closest to?

“With Joao Cancelo’s. In Greece everyone keeps telling me that I remind them of Giourkas Seitaridis. But I never saw him play.

Have you thought anything about playing for the Greek National Team?

“I’m not thinking about it yet, it hasn’t even crossed my mind. All I think about right now, is Inter.”

You’re 19, you have to have some free time besides football. What do you do then?

“I like reading, I love literature. But the last book I read was non-fiction. It was Herodotus’ ‘Novels and Jokes.’ Besides that, I love watching movies and going to the movies.

“The cinema is something I have truly missed going to during the lock down. I wanted to watch “Parasite”, but I couldn’t.”

Did you watch the Last Dance? Did you have any idea who Michael Jordan was and the impact he had on basketball?

“Yes, I did [watch it]. Before the Last Dance, no, I was completely unaware [of his importance]. Watching the series I realized his greatness. Although, I must admit that I’m a huge Lebron fan.”

Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi?

“Cristiano Ronaldo.”

You realize that eventually you’ll come against him on the pitch? And, what do you think? Will you ask for an autograph?

“Of course [I have realized this] but absolutely not [ask him for an autograph]. At least, not during the match [laughs].”

Watch – Highlights Inter 2 – 1 Sampdoria: Lautaro Martinez & Romelu Lukaku Seal All 3 Points

Inter won the postponed match day 25 Serie A match against Sampdoria at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district thanks to a goal each from Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.

After the first 45 minutes Inter were cruising after completely dominating the Blucerchiati and by all rights should have been up by at least 2 goals.

But a game of football is made up of two halves, a fact that Inter seem to struggle with this season, and were almost made to pay again for missing so many sitters.

Fortunately though, the Nerazzurri were able to keep Sampdoria at bay and went home with all 3 points which also meant that they’re now 6 points off Juventus at the top of the Serie A.

After July 7th Inter May Deem €111M To Be Too Low For Barcelona To Sign Lautaro Martinez

Inter will only sell Lautaro Martinez if Barcelona pay his €111 million release clause, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia aired late last night.

The report details how the Blaugrana are incredibly keen to sign the 22-year-old Argentine striker, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023. The Milanese club have no interest in losing the player and so aren’t interested in negotiating with the Catalan club, who have been looking for a cash discount on the Argentine striker.

Barcelona cannot afford to pay Lautaro’s €111 million release clause, the report continues, but Inter won’t budge. The player’s release clause is valid until the 7th July, and after that date even €111 million may not be enough to secure the signature of the 22-year-old.

Lautaro has made 32 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2508 minutes. In that time, he has scored 17 goals and provided four assists, forming a strong partnership with Romelu Lukaku.
