Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “Christian Eriksen Has To Become More Clinical & Score Goals”

Inter coach Antonio Conte discussed the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 win over Sampdoria last night when speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference broadcaster by InterTV after the game.

“Tonight, we had an obligation to win, so we’d be six points from the top. Hopes are raised to do something extraordinary.

“We could have been a bit more relaxed taking advantage of the opportunities, instead we scored a goal at the first opportunity and went a bit overboard. But well, good game by the guys. We start this tour-de-force knowing that we need everyone and we want to do important things.”

He discussed the performance of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, who bagged an assist last night after setting up Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku.

“We must continue to use these new solutions, also trying to recover all the players of the squad. With Christian we were able to work with more time, both tactically and physically. He’s in the system, but he has to become more clinical too and score goals. But I’m happy, knowing that in two days we’ll be back on the pitch and it’ll be a vital three points.”

The former Chelsea and Juventus coach touched on how the team struggle to fully close out matches.

“It’s not a condition problem. I repeat, when you have opportunities you have to capitalize on them, like what happened at Napoli.

“Today we had two sensational chances right at the start of the second half and then we got a bit worried, even though we continued to create.”

Finally, Conte discussed whether Inter are back in the running for the league title now. The Milanese club are five points behind second place Lazio and six points behind rivals and league leaders Juventus.

“We have to feed hope and desire, we have worked to finish the season in the best possible way. We’re six points away with 12 games to go, there won’t be room for mistakes, Lazio and Juventus will be able to make them. That’s why we need to be clear in front of goal, also because if you’re more relaxed you can rest with the ball.”

Inter are hoping to compete in the title race with Juventus and Lazio, with last night’s win against Sampdoria being crucial for their hopes. The Milanese club disappointed in both the Champions League and Coppa Italia this season, and so the league is the main focus of Conte and the squad.

Inter Striker Romelu Lukaku: “Every Match Is A Final, Now We Focus On Wednesday”

Inter striker Romelu Lukaku discussed the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 win over Sampdoria earlier tonight at the San Siro in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

“It was very important to win today because between now and the end of the season we have twelve games and for us every match is a final, every game a matter of life and death. We need to focus now for Wednesday.”

The 27-year-old Belgian striker, who is contracted to the Milanese club until 2024, highlighted how all the remaining matches of the season will be tough.

“Now for all the teams the matches are difficult, we have to prepare well for the next one because it won’t be easy.”

Finally, Lukaku discussed how difficult it is to restart the season after taking a three month stop due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

“I think we’ve done hard work and prepared well, now the team is physically well but we need to grow and be even stronger because we have difficult games.”

The former Manchester United striker, who joined the Milanese club last summer from the Red Devils, netted the first goal against the Ligurian side earlier tonight, before helping set up Lautaro Martinez’s goal, which gave the Milanese club a two-goal cushion.

Lukaku has made 37 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 3084 minutes. In that time, he has scored 24 goals and provided five assists, forming a strong partnership with Lautaro.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta: “Winning The Serie A Is Still Possible, Lautaro Has Never Expressed A Will To Leave”

Inter’s Sporting CEO Beppe Marotta stopped by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia moments ago, to share his thoughts on all things Nerazzurri, going into the postponed Serie A match day 25 clash against Sampdoria at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district, with kick off scheduled for 21.45 CET.

The Nerazzurri boss began by underlining how important tonight’s clash is against Sampdoria to not only get back to winning ways but also mount a Serie A title challenge.

“The statement made by Conte was stimulating and something all of us agree on. There are 13 matches left to play and everything can still happen.

“Starting tonight we all need to be fired up and motivated, three points against Sampdoria would be an excellent omen for the rest of the Serie A.”

Marotta was then asked about the rumors concerning Barcelona’s interest in Lautaro Martinez and the effect they may have had on the player. Marotta replied stressing that Inter want to keep the Argentine international striker and that the player himself has never expressed any desire to leave the club.

“Everyone knows that he has been the subject of attention on the transfer window. He has had an excellent start to the season and he is young, there are many clubs who want to negotiate for him.

“Inter is not a club that tends to sell its players and if he doesn’t show symptoms of wanting to leave we will hand on to him.

“Aside from this after three months of a break some calm is needed to wait for the best from players and one single game is not a trend. He wont be judged solely on what happened against Napoli but what happened before.

“Sure he is flattered by the interest shown in him from other clubs however this is a reason to do even better. It is normal and human that there is attention on him but from our perspective, we want to keep him and he has never expressed a desire to leave. I think we will continue together over next season.”

In conclusion the former Juventus CEO was asked that despite having improved compared to last season what do the Nerazzurri still lack in order to take the last step and win a title.

“The first thing is that the club is stable towards the employees who are in love with the club and who want to work and achieve great objectives together. As a consequence also the squad works in the best way.”

“We have to raise the substance of the squad together with the stability of the club, the Zhang family are here and we as the management are adapting to their needs and requests.

“We began a journey together last year and we are looking to achieve important objectives together.”

Inter’s Slovakian international central defender Milan Skriniar stopped by Italian broadcaster Inter TV to share his thoughts going into tonight’s Serie A clash against Sampdoria at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district.

Skriniar began by underlining how important it is to win the match against his former side, Sampdoria, in order to come within striking distance of Serie A league leaders Juventus who are 9 points clear with a game in hand.

“Today we play an important match, if we win we are 6 points behind the top and there are a lot of games to be played in a short space of time.

“Everything can still happen. We have been working to be prepared for this. Now we have to give everything we have.

“We are prepared, we have watched a little bit of video during this entire period that we haven’t been playing. Maybe they have changed things up a bit. We will see what happens on the pitch. We have to look to win this match.

“I hope to be able to [score soon again]. The best thing would be if I could tonight, we’ll see.”

Moments later he stopped by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia where he stated that although it is a bit strange to play against former teammates.

“Yes it is always a bit strange to play former teams but I ave already been at Inter for three years and I am looking to give my all for Inter.

“Absolutely [Conte’s statement stimulated me], there are many games where everything can happen. We have been working towards this, to be ready and now we have to make it show on the pitch.

“Yes, recently we have been conceding a few mote goals than we did before, this is not good and we need to improve also from this aspect. As well as trying to score more goals up front.”

Skriniar joined Sampdoria in January 2016 from Slovakian side MSK Zilina playing 38 games across all competitions for the Blucerchiati scoring no goals.

In the Summer of 2017 he made the switch to Inter in a deal worth €20 million which also included Gianluca Caprari going in the opposite direction. Since then he has featured 119 times for the Nerazzurri across all competitions scoring 4 goals in the process.
