Nerazzurri Legend Tarcisio Burgnich: “If Grande Inter Made History We Owe It To Mario Corso”

Former Inter defender Tarcisio Burgnich discussed ex-Nerazzurri winger Mario Corso, his relationship with coach Helenio Herrera and president Angelo Moratti in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

First, he spoke positively of Corso, who passed away yesterday in hospital at the age of 78.

“He was immense. With his left foot he did what he wanted. He knew he was a great player, but he always remained simple. He was cheerful, he had his plan ready, but he never exaggerated.”

The 81-year-old Italian, who spent 12 years of his career with the Nerazzurri, then discussed what kind of player Corso was, and his various qualities.

“He was worth half the team, the other half was Suarez. If that Inter made history, they owe it to them. He was imaginative, the classic extra man. Even today he would have been among the best in the world and at the time he was the best. Individualist and a bit of a vagabond on the pitch, Herrera didn’t like him much, but he always made him play. When he came into the area, he drove the defenders crazy.”

He commented on Corso’s famous nickname, God’s left foot.

“Corso scored goals in every way, not just with knuckleball free kicks, he always fooled you. He was pure technique.”

Finally, Burgnich spoke about how Corso never got along with coach Helenio Herrera, and how the famous Inter coach tried to sell the Italian on many occasions.

“According to the Wizard, he didn’t live like a footballer, he often scolded him and, if he could, grounded him. But then he always made him play, he knew that he was the one who made us win. Herrera got angry, President Moratti defended him and pampered him, Corso was there.”

Corso spent 16 years of his career with the Nerazzurri, from 1957 to 1973. The player was a core part of the Grande Inter squad and won four league titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups with the Milanese club, before spending the final two years of his career with Genoa.

Italian Media Claim Inter Looking For A Permanent Solution For Radja Nainggolan This Summer

Inter are looking for a solution regarding Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan, according to a report from Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com earlier today.

The report details how the Nerazzurri sent the 32-year-old Belgian midfielder out on loan to Cagliari last summer, not wanting to include the former Roma man in coach Antonio Conte’s future project.

It was only a dry loan and the Sardinian side cannot afford either his cost or his wages, and so the player will return to Milan at the end of the season.

Rather than integrating Nainggolan into the squad, the Nerazzurri are looking for a new home for the Belgian, the report continues. The club are hoping to build a younger midfield with stars like Sandro Tonali and so don’t want the aging Belgian to play an important role in the squad according to the report.

Nainggolan has made 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1943 minutes. In that time, he has scored five goals and provided six assists.

Alessandro Altobelli: “Inter The Favourites Against Sampdoria & Should Win This Match”

Former Inter forward Alessandro Altobelli discussed this evening’s league clash between the Nerazzurri and Sampdoria in an interview with Italian media outlet ilsussidiario.net earlier today.

“I see Inter as the favourites against Sampdoria. Starting with tonight’s match they will have a series of matches that they can and must win to gain some points and get closer to the leading two teams of Juventus and Lazio. I really think Inter should and can win this match.”

Altobelli then spoke about Inter’s opponents tonight, Claudio Ranieri’s Sampdoria, who are currently 16th in the league table.

“We know Sampdoria and we know how they play, what kind of tactical system they use. I think Ranieri has a Sampdoria that can focus on defense knowing the technical superiority of Conte’s team.”

Inter are currently 3rd in the league table after playing 25 games, sitting nine points behind rivals and league leaders Juventus. Should the Nerazzurri win their game in hand against Sampdoria tonight, they’d only be six points behind the Bianconeri, which is a result of the two lost head to head games played earlier this season.

Inter coach Antonio Conte is incredibly keen to finish the season as strongly as possible and potentially fight for the league title against Juventus and Lazio. The Lecce born coach has been impressed with his squad after one year in charge and will continue to strengthen the club in the summer transfer window.
