Inter Coach Conte To Replace Injured Marcelo Brozovic With Roberto Gagliardini Against Sampdoria

Inter coach Antonio Conte has decided to replace the injured Marcelo Brozovic with Roberto Gagliardini for tonight’s game against Sampdoria, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 27-year-old Croatian midfielder suffered a muscle injury in training earlier this week, which will keep him out of tonight’s game against Sampdoria and Wednesday night’s clash against Sassuolo. The Nerazzurri are hoping that Brozovic will be fit in time for next weekend’s match against Parma. Other injured midfielders include 24-year-old Italian Stefano Sensi and 28-year-old Uruguayan Matias Vecino.

Gagliardini will take Brozovic’s place in the starting 11, the report continues, giving the Italian the chance to prove himself to the Lecce born coach. The 26-year-old former Atalanta midfielder will line up alongside Nicolo Barella in the midfield, in the new 3-4-1-2 formation. Gagliardini has made 16 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in that time.

Inter Will Activate Option To Sign Stefano Sensi Permanently From Sassuolo

Inter will activate the buy option on Sassuolo owned midfielder Stefano Sensi in the summer, after being convinced by the player’s performances early in the season, according to a report from Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com earlier today.

The report details how the 24-year-old Italian impressed immediately after arriving in Milan last summer. The midfielder scored three goals and provided four assists in the first six league games of the season, making him one of the most exciting players in the league at the start of the season. Unfortunately, he suffered a tear in the abductor muscle in his Derby d’Italia debut and missed the next nine league games due to injury.

Despite his injury woes this season, Inter have already agreed with Sassuolo to permanently sign Sensi, the report continues. The Nerazzurri will pay €20 million for the 24-year-old Italian, who is currently out injured with a hamstring injury suffered in training earlier this week.

Roma Heat Up Interest In Inter Linked Tottenham Defender Jan Vertonghen

Roma have accelerated in the race to sign Inter linked Jan Vertonghen in the summer, when the Belgium will be a free agent, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the Giallorossi were keen to permanently sign Manchester United owned midfielder Chris Smalling, but the Red Devils asked for €25 million, a figure that’s far too high for the cash strapped Roman club. Due to this, Roma have resumed talks with the 33-year-old Vertonghen, who will be a free agent when his contract expires with Tottenham at the end of this month.

Vertonghen was offered to Inter, Roma and Napoli, the report continues, but the Giallorossi pulled away as they thought they’d be able to sign Smalling. The Nerazzurri are also interested in the player, but haven’t submitted an offer yet to him.

The 33-year-old Belgian has made 26 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2151 minutes. In that time, he has scored two goals and provided one assist.

Juventus & Inter To Battle It Out Over Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri

Juventus and Inter are set to fight for the signature of Chelsea left back Emerson Palmieri, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the Bianconeri are incredibly keen to sign the 25-year-old Italian Brazilian, who is contracted to the Blues until 2022. The player would be their ideal backup for Alex Sandro, with coach Maurizio Sarri knowing the player well from his time in charge of the West London club. Emerson is keen to leave Chelsea in the summer due to his low wages and lack of regular playing time under coach Frank Lampard.

Inter are also interested in signing Emerson, the report continues, as the club are looking to strengthen their wing back department. Both clubs are also interested in Barcelona full back Junior Firpo, and the player could be included in the deal for Bianconeri midfielder Miralem Pjanic. Both Inter and Juventus agree that Junior Firpo isn’t worth more than €25 million, far from the €40 million valuation made by Barcelona.

The Lombard club are hoping to start a bidding war for the player, as Juventus, Fiorentina and other top clubs around Europe are also interested in signing the 20-year-old Italian.

Inter hold an unusual advantage, the report continues, as Tonali’s grandmother is a lifelong fan of the Nerazzurri, and she has told him to join the Milanese side. Alexis Sanchez: “You Learn New Things About Football From Inter Coach Antonio Conte”

Inter forward Alexis Sanchez discussed his mindset, the game against Sampdoria this evening and his work with coach Antonio Conte in an interview in the official Matchday Programme. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“I never want to lose, not even in practice. I get angry even if you miss an easy pass, that’s how I am.”

He discussed how Conte imposes his mentality on the squad and how that’s helped the former Arsenal forward.

“He makes you learn new things about football, he explains the game to you, it’s hard work, all guided by his mentality, which is aimed at winning. Conte shows us the way.”

The 31-year-old Chilean forward, who has spent this season on loan at Inter from Manchester United, looked forward to tonight’s game.

“We have the chance to play and practice the sport we love even though we know it will be in different conditions. We’ll do everything we can to be ready and hopefully we’ll be able to give some great joy to the Inter fans.”

Finally, Sanchez discussed his passion for football.

“I played for hours under my mother’s eyes. My joy has always been football. When I play, I have fun, I forget my problems. It was my dream, I realized it.”

Sanchez has struggled to make an impact in Milan since arriving from England last summer. The 31-year-old Chilean suffered a tendon injury whilst on international duty with Chile in October, forcing him to miss ten league games. The former Arsenal star has made 16 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 615 minutes. In that time, he has scored one goal and provided one assist.

Robbie Keane: “Playing For Inter Was A Beautiful & Wonderful Experience”

Former Ireland star Robbie Keane discussed his positive experience in Milan with Inter in an interview with International media outlet Sky Sports earlier today, as reported by FcInterNews.

“I always wanted to play in the best clubs and Inter was and is one of them. Having the chance to play there was beautiful, a wonderful experience, I wouldn’t change it for anything. Maybe I was too young, 20-21 years old, to change country. I wasn’t afraid, I was there to play in one of the best teams and I had fun.”

Keane then highlighted how important it is for younger players to play abroad to gain more experience and understand a different style of football.

“I took home a lot of positive things, it helped me to better understand football and today they ask me if young people should go abroad. There are young English people who go to Germany, go and take advantage of the opportunities to move to other countries, a different kind of football helps players grow.”

Keane joined the Nerazzurri in 2000 after an impressive season in the Premier League with Coventry City. The Irishman signed a five-year contract with the Milanese club, but after the departure of Marcello Lippi his position in the club’s hierarchies dropped. The player was loaned out to Leeds United after only six months and never played for Inter again.

Keane made 15 appearances across all competitions for Inter in those six months, for a total of 873 minutes. In that time, he scored three goals, including one against Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana, as well as goals in the Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup.

Massimo Moratti: “Mario Corso Was My Favourite Player In The La Grande Inter Squad”

Former Inter president Massimo Moratti discussed former Nerazzurri winger Mario Corso, who passed away yesterday morning, in an interview with Italian news outlet ANSA.

“Mario Corso was the only footballer that Pelé would have definitely wanted in his Brazil squad. This helps to make young people understand the importance of my friend’s class.”

Moratti then highlighted how the player was a part of the Grande Inter squad and his relationship with the Italian.

“He was my favourite of the Grande Inter, but my father adored him too, and he always remained close to our family. Superfine technique, playing against the clock, the so-called ‘dead leaf’ punishments: it was a pleasure to see him play.”

Corso spent the majority of his 18-year playing career with the Nerazzurri, being an important Inter player from 1957 to 1973. He was a core part of Helenio Herrera’s Grande Inter squad and won many trophies with the Milanese club.

In his 16 years with Inter, Corso won four league titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups. He made 507 appearances for the Nerazzurri across all competitions, for a total of 44,644 minutes.

In that time, he scored 95 goals and earnt the nickname ‘God’s left foot’. Corso also made 23 appearances for the Italian national team in a ten-year period from 1961-71, but was never called up for a World Cup.

Preview – Inter Vs Sampdoria – Finally Time To Play The Match That Never Was

With the league suspension behind us, Inter look to restart their campaign with the rescheduled match against Samp, a win here can see the Nerazzurri back in title contention. Match tonight Sunday at 21:45 CET

Despite getting knocked out of the Coppa Italia, there was much to be optimistic about with regards to Inter’s performance, especially in the first half. It seems that Antonio Conte has used the long layoff to really think about his side’s best shape and how to maximize utility out of newcomer Christian Eriksen. The Danish playmaker seemed much more integrated into the side and was the main artery through which central attacks were orchestrated.

While fitness and conditioning will be a problem for most sides to deal with, especially when the grueling 3 day match schedule kicks in, Inter and Conte looked particularly ill-suited to deal with the challenge during their match against Napoli. Despite having five substitutions at his disposal, Conte only managed to make the traditional trio of changes and even those seemed to be too little too late. If Inter are to mount a serious late push for the title, and keep the chasing pack at bay, Conte must be more daring and flexible with his in-game management.

While attack and defense seem to have sorted themselves out, it has traditionally been the midfield that has given Inter problems this season. That said, if Eriksen continues his development into the side, this will be godsend of a solution for Conte, who then need not play Marcelo Brozovic out of position or out of role, bringing balance to the rest of the midfield, who will miss this match anyway due to injury.

Sampdoria, on the other hand, are in a world of pain. The arrival of Claudio Ranieri seemed to assuage relegation fears, however, the Doria are still just one point above the drop-zone and so any mistake might be very costly at this stage of the competition. Samp’s problems continue being in attack, they possess the joint-worst scoring record outside the relegation zone, and with striking talisman Fabio Quagliarella even closer to forty years than before the league suspension, it does not seem like their scoring fortunes are going to dramatically change.

Ranieri will probably have his side shell up completely and hope that Inter’s post-layoff fitness issues save his side from a second half attacking barrage. Conte, on the other hand, must be hoping that his team manage to make the most out of their chances and be ahead on the scoresheet before halftime, otherwise things could get complicated quickly.

Team News

Man of glass Stefano Sensi has picked up another muscular injury and will not be available for selection, otherwise, it appears that Conte will have a full squad to take his pick from.

Probable line-up (3-4-1-2): Handanovic (C); Bastoni, de Vrij, Skriniar; Young, Barella, Gagliardini, Candreva; Eriksen; Lautaro, Lukaku.

Stats

Last Season: Inter 2 – 1 Sampdoria.

Last 10 Head to Head: The Doria have become somewhat of a punching bag for Inter, with the hosts winning seven of the last ten matches. Perhaps more telling is the fact that Inter have won the last five encounters in a row, both home and away.

Keep an Eye on

Christian Eriksen: Having just scored his first domestic goal for the black and blue in Naples, Eriksen will look to play another pivotal role in the weekend’s match. The Dane seems to be slowly but surely taking to Conte’s system and becoming more familiar with his new role and responsibilities.

Officials

Referee: Maurizio Mariani.

Assistants: Colarossi and Di Iorio.

Fourth Official: Pairetto.

VAR: Mazzoleni and Preti.

Prediction & Concluding Remarks

Prediction & scorers: Inter 3-0 Sampdoria. Lukaku brace and Eriksen to seal the deal.

Concluding remarks: This match will prove to be a real bellwether of how Conte will line-up his side for the final run of matches. If the manager can maximize utility of the five substitutions, this will be of a great service to Inter’s quest to return as genuine title contenders.
