Inter CEO Marotta: “No Winners & Losers Today, Serie A Should Be More Independent”

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta stopped by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia moments ago after a meeting with the Italian FA to decide the fate of the Serie A season should it be interrupted again, was concluded.

During today’s meeting several decisions were made, including that the Serie A season would be decided by play-offs if the season would be needed to be stopped in case of a second wave of COVID-19.

If that is not possible, an algorithm would decide how the league table would end up looking, a solution heavily backed by FIGC President Gravina, a solution Inter were reportedly against.

The dates for the next two transfer window’s were also decided upon, with this summer’s window being postponed to September 1st and closing October 5th.

Marotta was far from happy with most of the decisions expressing his desire for the Serie A to have more freedom similarly to Premier League.

“I don’t think there are any winners or losers today, this is in my opinion an unusual situation. We have been forced to go back to the drawing board, we’ve been slapped in the face morally, we have lost our reclaim: 3 votes against and 18 in favor of revisiting the rules and governance of an organization that does not reflect the specific importance of a league like Serie A.”

“Today, I could criticize the system of government in the world of football, a system tied to a decision making process that is dependent on too many components.

“I hope that the Serie A has a more autonomous decision making power as is the case in England.”

Inter Lead Juventus & Lazio In Race To Sign Hellas Verona’s €32M Rated Marash Kumbulla

Inter lead Juventus in the race to sign Hellas Verona’s central defender Marash Kumbulla, Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia reported on air moments ago.

Both clubs have, according to the report, contacted both Hellas Verona as well as the players agents and the Nerazzurri are currently in the lead having presented the more convincing offer to date.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta could use youngster Eddy Salcedo who is currently on loan at Hellas, as a bargaining chip to convince the club to sell Kumbulla to them, the report continues.

Hellas are currently asking for €32 million in cash and Inter are considering letting Kumbulla stay one more year at the club to develop even further, the report states.

Juventus have not yet made an official bid, as they are still thinking about which players they would like to include in a swap deal but the deal is far from done as Lazio and several German clubs are also in the running.

The 20-year-old centre back has been one of the greatest revelations of the 2019/20 Serie A season, in which he has had his first team breakthrough at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Kumbulla, who has a contract with Hellas Verona until 2022, has made 19 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored one goal.

Sandro Tonali Prefers Inter Over Juventus But Has Not Made A Final Decision Yet

Inter lead Juventus in the race to sign Brescia’s Italian international midfielder Sandro Tonali, Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia reported on air moments ago.

According to the report, Tonali prefers the Nerazzurri for a host of reasons including the presence of Antonio Conte, as well as the presence of several young Italian players with whom he could play in the Italian national team with. Other reasons include, according to the report, that Inter have been following the youngster for a long time and have stepped up their efforts in recent weeks.

However, it is important to note that Tonali’s decision is not final and Juventus are still very much in the race, the report continues, but an unknown factor is that concerning Brescia owner Massimo Cellino. As of date it is unclear which if the suitors he prefers, obviously wanting to receive the highest sum possible for his most prized asset.

Tonali has made 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2130 minutes. In that time, he has scored one goal and provided five assists.

Tonali has a contract with Brescia that expires at the end of June 2022.

FIGC President Gravina: “Playoffs Are First Solution To Maintaining Sporting Merit”

Italian football federation (FIGC) president Gabriele Gravina has summarised the decisions made today during the Federal Council meeting.

Gravina started by confirming playoffs are the first option in the event that the 2019/20 season is stopped again upon it resuming.

“We have established, to maintain the sporting merit, to put the playoffs as the first solution to end the season, then comes the algorithm,” he is quoted as saying by Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

He then went on to speak about the schedule for the remainder of the 2019/20 season, which will begin with the Coppa Italia semi finals and final.

“We will start with the Italian Cup which will be the first post-Covid-19 trophy, therefore it must be a source of pride. Serie A will start on June 20. There will be risks but we must take these into account.”

He then explained there are still some details needing decided as far as the idea of playoffs are concerned.

“If by 10-15 July it is not possible for the season to carry on, a different format will be introduced, as advocated by UEFA.

“The number of teams who will participate has not been decided but we will establish that before the start of the season but I think it is useless to do so because the season will be completed.”

He then went on to state that he believes deciding things with playoffs is far fairer than the algorithm idea.

“I think a mini-tournament is better than the algorithm, which is a simple weighted average, to establish merit on the field.

“Lega Serie A has accepted our algorithm and that takes into account the average home and away points multiplied by the matches still to be played. I hope this is also useless.”

Gravina then went on to reveal some of the sanctions some clubs could find themselves hit with in the event that they do not follow the protocol.

“Sanctions range from a fine to being docked points to being excluded from the league, in the event that there is an attitude that would alter the sporting result.”

Gravina concluded by speaking about the possibility of clubs being forced into quarantine.

“We have to have close contact with the ministers Vincenzo Spadafora and Roberto Speranza, as well as with the Technical Scientific Committee.”

Inter & Chelsea Among Clubs Interested In Santos’ Defender Lucas Verissimo

Inter are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Santos defender Lucas Verissimo according to a report from Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte.

Atalanta and Chelsea are both also interested in signing the central defender, who will not be allowed to leave the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A side for anything less than €10 million.

Sampdoria are also seemingly interested in him but have not made an official offer and Santos do not want to do business with La Samp due to the fact the Blucerchiati still owe them money for the transfer of Kaique Rocha.

Santos are understood to be considering selling players to mitigate the financial crisis caused by the global Coronavirus crisis.

In addition to Verissimo, highly rated striker Kaio Jorge may aslo be allowed to leave the club. There are many clubs interested in the young Brazilian forward and Santos want at least €30 million for him.

Although no teams are specifically mentioned in this report with regard to being interested in Kaio Jorge, reports in the media in recent months have suggested that Inter have an interest in signing him.

Antonio Conte To Change Inter’s Formation In Coppa Italia Clash Vs Napoli To Get Best From Christian Eriksen

Inter manager Antonio Conte intends to deploy Inter in a 3-4-1-2 system in Inter’s upcoming Coppa Italia semi final second leg against Napoli according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Conte plans to use this system opposed to the 3-5-2 system he has had the team use throughout the season in order to try and get the best out of January transfer window recruit Christian Eriksen.

Conte has been studying the system intensely whilst football has been on hold for the past three months and will use it against Napoli, who Inter trail 1-0 from the first leg.

The report from the Rome based news outlet goes on to explain that Eriksen now feels more confident following a shaky start to life in the Nerazzurri and claims that he will be able to lead the Nerazzurri to the Coppa Italia final, which will be against either Juventus or AC Milan.

Milan Skriniar: “Didn’t Think Twice Before Saying Yes To Inter, Proud To Have Worn Captains Armband”

In an interview with the official You Tube channel of Serie A, Inter defender Milan Skriniar has spoken on a number of Inter related topics and started by recalling his arrival at the club from Sampdoria back in the Summer of 2017.

“I didn’t have to think twice before saying yes to Inter, I immediately said that I wanted to sign and I immediately decided to come here because I liked the idea of playing for Inter,” he began the interview.

“There are a lot of positive things, training every day in Appiano Gentile where there is a beautiful training centre, playing at the Meazza, in front of such a large crowd. The fans are perhaps the best thing about playing for Inter.”

The Slovakian national team defender then spoke on what it meant to him to be able to wear the captain’s armband for the first time earlier on this season.

“It was very exciting to wear the armband against Udinese, I was proud to be captain of this team, it was a real responsibility. Wearing the armband does not change the way you play. I always try to do my best and give everything, which is the most important thing.”

Next he spoke on current club captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

“In my opinion, Samir Handanovic is the most professional in this team, not only on the field but also off it. Watching the matches he studies his opponents, this is another reason that makes him a great professional, as well as being a great person and a great captain.”

Skriniar then went on to discuss his relationship with his teammates and which defender he believes he partners up best with.

“We are a really nice group because we spend a lot of time together even when we play, but if I had to indicate a partner with whom I am better I say Alessandro Bastoni.”

Next Skriniar spoke on some of the changes that Inter manager Antonio Conte has implemented since becoming manager this past Summer.

“There have been many changes since his arrival. I have always played in a four-man defence and I was not used to playing in any other system. He has explained how to do it though. We are working hard to improve in every aspect and we will continue to do it.”

He then spoke on the praise he has received throughout his career and what it has been luck being unable to be with family and friends all the time.

“I am very happy with the appreciation received, of course you have to work hard every day, but also have luck on your side but the most important thing is the job. Staying away from family and friends is not easy every day, but it’s part of the game if you want to become a professional. ”

Inter Coach Conte Unsure On Physical Status Of de Vrij & Bastoni Ahead Of Coppa Italia Clash Vs Napoli

Inter manager Antonio Conte is likely to deploy Inter in a 3-4-1-2 system against Napoli this coming weekend according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The former Inter national team boss does however have some selection doubts ahead of the Coppa Italia semi final second leg clash, which will take place at Napoli’s Stadio San Paolo.

Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni are both suffering from muscle problems and must be carefully evaluated to avoid making things worse.

They are the first choices to play alongside Milan Skriniar in the three-man backline and the report goes on to explain that Conte wants guarantees over their physical condition before thinking about putting them on the park.

Conte wants this given Inter will be playing games every three days and could certainly do without players getting injured especially at a time where rotation will be absolutely essential.

Official – Serie A Season To Be Decided By Playoffs Or Algorithm If Season Stopped Again

The Italian football federation (FIGC) have today decided that the Serie A season will be decided by playoffs or an algorithm if the season is to stop again.

During the Italian football federal council meeting this afternoon plans were approved following 18 votes to three. If the season is to be stopped prior to July 10 then playoffs will be used but if it is after that date the algorithm will be used instead.

The 2019/20 Serie A season was brought to a halt back in March due to the Coronavirus outbreak and is scheduled to re-commence on June 20.

Inter have 13 fixtures left to play and currently trail league leaders Juventus by nine points although they do have a game in hand which would enable them to cut the gap between themselves and their arch rivals to six points.

Inter are scheduled to play lowly Sampdoria at San Siro this Sunday night with kick-off scheduled for 21:45.
