Ivan Zamorano: “Gigi Simoni Built A Family At Inter, Ronaldo Is The Best Striker Of All Time”

In an interview with Inter’s official You Tube channel, legendary Inter attacker Ivan Zamorano has sang the praises of former Inter manager Luigi ‘Gigi’ Simoni, who recently passed away following a long battle with illness.

“He built a family, that Inter squad in ‘97/98 made a dream come true by winning that incredible UEFA Cup,” the former Chilean international began the interview.

“He wasn’t just a great coach, but also a great man and it wasn’t easy to do that with a team containing so many champions, but we all fought together to achieve our aims.

“We have a wonderful memory of him; he did everything he could to build that family. Personally, Simoni made me play well in the most important matches of that UEFA Cup run and it was so rewarding for me to have a coach like him, because he always encouraged me.”

He then went on to recall the third goal that was scored that night which came with thanks to Ronaldo, who famously rounded Lazio goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani before slotting into an empty net.

“Only Ronaldo could score a goal like that, with that trademark move. He could do so many incredible things, for me he’s the best no.9 the world has seen, and that goal represents everything he’s about, speed and magic.

“Ronaldo was a Phenomenon and I’m a workhorse, so we complemented each other well because in every great team you need a player who has the skills and one who works for the team.”

He then went on to discuss being a player who gave absolutely everything that he had whilst he was on the pitch.

“The fans still remember me as a warrior. Of course I had some ability, especially with my head, but I like to be remembered as someone who always gave his all on the pitch, who fought tirelessly for every ball.”

Zamorano arrived at Inter in the Summer of 1996 from Spanish powerhouses Real Madrid and spent the next five years with the side before departing for Liga MX outfit Club America.

During his stint in the Nerazzurri, Zamorano, who famously wore 1+8 on his shirt, made 150 appearances across all competitions, in which he netted 41 goals and provided three assists for his teammates.

Spanish Media Claim Inter ‘Obsessed’ With Atletico Madrid’s Transfer Targets Such As Cavani & Aubameyang

If Inter are not signing Atletico Madrid players, they are more often than not interested in the same players that the Spaniards are a report from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo has pointed out.

Inter have a long tradition of signing players from Los Colcohoneros from Diego Simeone back in 1996 to Diego Forlan in 2010 to more recent acquisitions such as Miranda in 2016/17 or Sime Vrsalkjo, who spent the 2018/19 on loan at the Nerazzurri.

In the past the two clubs competed for the signing of Vrsaljko, a battle that Atletico Madrid won and they also battled it out for Christian Eriksen back in January, with Inter coming out on top this time.

The report goes on to explain that both clubs currently have an interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani and Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette.

Both clubs are looking to bolster their attacking options in the coming months and the Uruguayan and Frenchman are on both club’s radars.

Roberto Gagliardini Wants Inter Stay Even If This Results In Sliding Down Pecking Order

Roberto Gagliardini wishes to stay at Inter despite the fact he could slide down the pecking order in the coming months according to a report from Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

Inter are planning to reinforce the midfield and Brescia’s Sandro Tonali is believed to be their top target and although Tonali’s arrival would damage Gagliardini’s playing time, he wants to prove his worth in the remainder of the season and secure his future with Inter.

He rejected a possible move to West Ham United back in January and Torino and Fiorentina have both been linked with him in recent weeks and months.

The report goes on to explain that Atalanta are interested in bringing the 26-year-old back to the club. It also suggests that Inter and Atalanta could well conduct a swap deal involving Gagliardini and full back Robin Gosens, who is among Inter’s targets as they look to bolster their full back options.

Gagliardini is facing an uncertain future, just like Matias Vecino is. The Uruguayan has been linked to Arsenal, Valencia and Everton and could follow Borja Valero, whose contract is set to expire, out of the club.

Spanish Media Claims Inter Decline Barcelona’s Offer Of Coutinho & Dembele For Lautaro Martinez

Barcelona have offered two players to Inter in exchange for Lautaro Martinez according to a report from Spanish news outlet Don Balon published earlier today.

The Blaugrana club have identified the Argentinian international striker as one of their top transfer targets ahead of the upcoming transfer window and as per the report, they have offered Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele to Inter.

Inter are however not interested in the offer of the Brazilian and Frenchman due to the fact they are holding out for the 22-year-old’s €111 million release clause to be activated.

Lautaro, who has a contract with Inter through to the end of the 2022/23 season, has reportedly already agreed personal terms with Barcelona but an agreement between the clubs appears to be some way away.

This season he has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.

French Media Reports Inter Target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Could Still Extend Contract With Arsenal

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not completely closed the door when it comes to possibly signing a contract extension with the Gunners according to a report from French news outlet Le10Sport.

The Gabonese national team striker’s contract is due to expire at the end of next season and although some reports have suggested a contract extension offer has been tabled, this report claims that this is not the case and no formal offer has been made to him to prolong his stay in north London.

The report goes on to explain that Arsenal are working on a contract renewal proposal to send him but it also warns that Aubameyang will not just sign on easily given the interest from elsewhere in him.

The former Borussia Dortmund player has been courted by several top clubs including Inter and Barcelona as of late and it now remains to be seen if Arsenal will be able to convince Aubameyang to remain.

Olivier Giroud: “I Nearly Left Chelsea In January But Think God Wanted Me To Stay At Chelsea”

In an interview with Chelsea’s official club website, Olivier Giroud has revealed that he came close to leaving the club in the most recent January transfer window.

The veteran Frenchman drew strong links to both Inter and Lazio in particular but moves never transpired in the end and Chelsea have since went on to extend his contract with them until the end of next season.

“I was supposed to leave in the January transfer window because I wasn’t playing much and I needed more game time to make the France squad for Euro 2020,” he began the interview.

“I very nearly left the club but I really think that God wanted me to stay at Chelsea.”

He then went on to reveal that the promise of more game time is what convinced him to remain with the Blues, who he joined in January of 2018 from fellow Premier League side Arsenal.

“The manager told me that he couldn’t let me leave because he didn’t have anyone to replace me. Everyone knows what happened so I won’t go back over it but the coach spoke to me privately and told me that he’d give more games.

“He kept his word and what then mattered to me was proving to him that he could count on me when I was called upon.”

This season the 33-year-old, who was part of the France side that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia, has made 13 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, which totals just shy of 700 minutes on total, he has scored three goals.

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has confirmed that Lazio are in a position where they do not have to sell top midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Spanish born Serbian national team player has long drawn links with moves away from the Italian capital city club with Inter and Juventus among the long term admirers.

“We certainly don’t need to sell right now. I do not think we will lower the price of first-rate players,” Tare began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on today.

“Milinkovic-Savic has a relationship with the club and city that will never die. It is a strong bond that has grown over the years.

“The wishes of the player must be understood and we will analyse any offers without any pressure and for the good of both parties. If both can be satisfied, offers will be considered but otherwise we will be happy for him to stay with us.”

Inter Coach Conte Considering Formation Change To Deploy Christian Eriksen In Natural Role

Inter manager Antonio Conte is thinking of changing from his 3-5-2 system in order to incorporate Christian Eriksen into the starting line-up according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia which was aired a short time ago.

The former Italian national team manager is thinking about swapping to a 3-4-1-2 system which would allow the Danish national team player to be deployed in his natural role as an attacking midfielder.

The report goes on to explain that Conte will also look to rely on every player at his disposal when the season gets back up and running with Inter having 13 Serie A games to play, at least one more in the Coppa Italia and at least two in the Europa League.

The likes of Alexis Sanchez, Alessandro Bastoni, Stefano Sensi and Roberto Gagliardini could see an increase in their playing time from the season resuming in the coming weeks to the end of it.

Spanish Media Claim Inter’s Lautaro Martinez Could Remain At Club Despite Agreeing Terms With Barcelona

Lautaro Martinez will either remain in Milan with Inter or go to Barcelona in the coming months according to a report from the online edition of Spanish based news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing but an agreement is yet to be reached. Reports in Italy are stating Lautaro and Barcelona have an agreement over personal terms but this report goes on to state that Barcelona are neither confirming or denying this and the report goes on to explain that they are well aware of the player’s intentions.

He has a €111 million release clause in his contract which is active for the first fortnight in July and Inter will only accept less than that amount if players are offered as part of any deal.

Junior Firpo, Jean-Clair Todibo, Nelson Semedo and Arturo Vidal have all been suggested as counterparts but for the time being Inter are only focused on getting cash for the 22-year-old.

Inter are in the process of seeking out a replacement for Lautaro and until they have one they will not lower their demands.
