Alfred Duncan: “Learned A Lot By Playing For Inter Which Is A Top European Club”

Former Inter midfielder Alfred Duncan, who started his career with the Nerazzurri before joining Sampdoria in 2014, discussed his time with the Milanese club and his idol in an interview with Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com earlier today.

“Inter was something unexpected but beautiful, a very important club, at the top in Italy and Europe, I was able to train with formidable players, an experience that gave me and allowed me to grow a lot.”

The 27-year-old Ghanaian then discussed his idols and how it felt to train with former Inter midfielder Thiago Motta.

“Before I arrived in Italy, I used to watch Xabi Alonso, but Guti was the player I liked the most given his incredible quality with his feet. When I arrived in Italy, I had the opportunity to train with Thiago Motta who played exemplary football in his role.”

Duncan started with Inter as a teenager, spending two years with the Nerazzurri before officially signing for them after his 18th birthday in 2012. He spent two more years with the Milanese club, where he made four appearances across all competitions, for a total of 115 minutes. He spent time on loan at Livorno before making himself known across Italy due to his performances with Sassuolo. He has been linked with a return to Inter earlier this season, but a move has never materialised and the Nerazzurri are seemingly prioritising other targets, like Sandro Tonali.

Inter & Juventus Linked Arturo Vidal: “I’m Happy Here At Barcelona”

Inter linked midfielder Arturo Vidal discussed his future, the return to training and the restart of the season in an interview with Barcelona earlier today.

“It was exciting to come back after what happened. With teammates, there was a lot of happiness and a lot of conversation at a distance, trying to understand if each one of us has had the virus.”

The 33-year-old Chilean midfielder then discussed important it was for the squad to come together for the remaining games of the season.

“For us it is very important that Luis and the other injured players recover, because it will be two intense months with many games to play in a short space of time. We need to be at 100% for the two competitions we have left.”

The former Juventus and Bayern Munich midfielder commented on how it will feel to play games behind closed doors.

“I like to connect with the public, it feels good and it gives me great joy and enthusiasm, but we have to adapt and take advantage of all the training sessions we’ve had to achieve our goals.”

Vidal spoke about the remaining 11 league games of the season.

“These 11 games are going to be 11 finals, we are all clear about that, and that they will be very difficult. We have to trust ourselves, we have to think about winning and also doing it in the best way.”

Finally, Vidal spoke about how it would feel to win a 9th consecutive league title in his career.

“It would be a dream to win nine leagues in a row, because achieving a record with that many titles is very difficult. I still feel good and will continue fighting and winning trophies. Few players in history have done this and I’m proud. I hope to win the 9th here with Barça.”

Vidal has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1414 minutes. In that time, he has scored six goals and provided three assists, earning more consistent playing time after the arrival of coach Quique Setién. The player has been heavily wanted by coach Antonio Conte for some time now, although the club’s management are less keen on the idea.

Napoli Join Inter & Roma In Race To Sign Tottenham Defender Jan Vertonghen

Inter are one of three Italian clubs interested in signing Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen after his contract expires with the North London club, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 33-year-old Belgian defender’s contract will expire with Spurs at the end of this season, eight years after his arrival. The player is wanted by many clubs across Europe, with three in Italy particularly keen to sign Vertonghen.

Inter, Roma and Napoli are all interested in signing the 33-year-old veteran, the report continues. The Giallorossi have made a lot of progress in recent weeks in the talks, and now Napoli are in contact with his entourage as well.

Vertonghen has made 26 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2151 minutes. In that time, he has scored two goals, provided one assist and helped the side keep four clean sheets.

Ex-Inter Sporting Director Marco Branca: “Lautaro Martinez Is Better Than Edinson Cavani But I Wouldn’t Keep A Player Who Wants To Leave”

Former Inter sporting director Marco Branca discussed the restart of football, the transfer of Mauro Icardi to Paris Saint-Germain and other topics in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radio Punto Nuovo earlier today.

“These are decisions taken at a historic moment. I signed him from Sampdoria at €13 million plus 2 million in add-ons. I saw it as a natural consequence of what was done in the season prior.”

He then discussed the possible transfers of Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona and Edinson Cavani to Inter.

“The will of the main player, Lautaro, matters. If he wants to stay, I’d prefer that from a sporting point of view, but it’s never good to keep a player who doesn’t want to stay. Cavani has always done his duty well, even if he is no longer 20 years old, these are assessments that one must make. Until I see the signature, I don’t believe in any deal.”

The 55-year-old Italian spoke about the restart of football being played behind closed doors.

“I agree, it’s real football anyway. When there are league titles on the line, professionalism to defend, positions on the table, things to do, you have to move forward.”

Branca commented on the busy schedule that will see games played every three days.

“It’s not nice at all, it’s a lot of games and it’s not easy, especially after a long stop like this. There could be extra injuries, but it’s a strange situation for everybody. When you have more matches close together, it’s useful to keep your concentration high compared to the others.”

Finally, Branca discussed whether Primavera players could see more usage in the remaining games of the season, in order to ensure that no first team players suffer serious injuries from over-playing.

“I’m of the opinion that many times, when things seem disadvantageous, they’re not really disadvantageous. Alibis and excuses have never been part of my philosophy, I would only have dealt with these games with commitment. I believe that at this moment in history, politically and practically, it’s important to think about resuming. We’ll have the month of June to understand how things will go from a clinical point of view, but I think it’s serious to try to resume. You have to be intelligent in knowing how to evaluate everything that happens along the way.”

Inter and PSG reached a deal for Icardi’s stay in Paris that will see the French club pay €50 million plus €8 million in add-ons. The Nerazzurri are then planning to reinvest these funds into the squad, looking to close the gap with Juventus next season and fight for the league title.

Inter & Juventus Linked Emerson Palmieri’s Agent: “He’s Happy At Chelsea, Only God Knows The Future”

Inter target Emerson Palmieri’s agent Fernando Garcia discussed a possible return to Italy for his client in an interview with Italian media outlet Tuttojuve.com earlier today.

“Emerson’s very happy at Chelsea, he’s doing well with his teammates and his coach. To date, I’ve had no contact with any club. He plays in one of the biggest leagues in the world. The only one who can say whether he will return to Italy is God, only he knows whether Emerson will return to play in Italy or not.”

Inter and Juventus are both interested in signing the 25-year-old Italian Brazilian, who is contracted to Chelsea until 2022. The player is seemingly out of coach Frank Lampard’s project at the London based club and so a move away seems likely for the former Roma full back, who is reported to appreciate the interest of the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri.

Emerson has made 18 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1341 minutes. In that time, he has provided one assist, struggling to earn consistent minutes after being dropped for Marcos Alonso and Reece James. Inter are looking to strengthen their wing back department in the upcoming summer transfer window, with only Ashley Young being confirmed for the department.

Italian Media Report Inter Decline Barcelona’s Junior Firpo + €80M Offer For Lautaro Martinez

Inter have declined another offer from Barcelona for Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset earlier today.

The report details how the Blaugrana offered the Nerazzurri €80 million plus 23-year-old Spanish full back Junior Firpo for the 22-year-old Lautaro, but the Nerazzurri declined the offer. The club’s sporting director Piero Ausilio highlighted yesterday that the Milanese club would only accept €111 million in cash for Lautaro, a figure that Barcelona seem unable to match.

In the event that Inter do sell Lautaro to Barcelona, the report continues, the Nerazzurri would look to sign either 29-year-old Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette or 21-year-old Brazilian Matheus Cunha. Edinson Cavani is also a possibility, although the player would have to lower his wage demands, considering his age.

Lautaro has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2437 minutes. In that time, he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.

Italian Media Highlights UEFA’s & FIFA’s Guidelines On How To Handle Expiring Contracts & Loans

The Italian football federation has found a solution regarding players’ contracts and the expiry dates of them, following on from the guidelines given by FIFA and UEFA, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how FIFA suggested that there should be agreements to extend loan deals and contracts that expire will instead end at the end of the season, with UEFA saying that European squads should be left the same until the end of the season.

The FIGC has decided to extend the season, the report continues, and so in turn extend all the contracts until the end of the season. It’s now up to clubs and players to reach their various agreements individually. Many players are involved in this situation, including Inter owned midfielder Radja Nainggolan, who is currently on loan at Cagliari. The Rossoblu are keen to keep the Belgian midfielder.

Cagliari President Giulini: “I’d Like To Keep Nainggolan But It Depends On Inter”

Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini discussed the restart of the season, the uncertain situation regarding contract expiring dates and Inter owned midfielder Radja Nainggolan in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

“It’s a peculiar situation, we expected this Centenary to be different, but it must be a starting point for football and the country after the pandemic. We’re happy to be able to celebrate the Centenary with the resumption of the league, it’s a message of hope for everyone.”

He highlighted how squads may be forced to go into quarantine should a single player test positive for the virus, which could cause a problem when trying to finish out the season.

“Still, there is the matter of the quarantine that clubs must undergo should a player test positive, it’s clear that if this were to happen after the 20th June it wouldn’t be possible to finish the season.”

Giulini touched on how there needs to be guidance regarding contracts and their expiry dates, as it’s unclear if players on loan can finish the season with their club.

“We cannot restart with this uncertainty when it has not been imposed in the other countries. I hope there will be news between now and the 20th, just as I hope there will also be news about the management of loans and players’ contracts, it’s still not clear how we should behave when 30th June passes. These are all issues that it would be good to clarify as soon as possible for the good of football and the fans, increasing the enthusiasm for this restart.”

The Cagliari president spoke about the future of Nainggolan, who has impressed this season whilst on loan with the Sardinian club.

“I won’t deny that I’d like to see Radja in our shirt again. This is a slightly spoiled season, when we took him the idea was to take Radja for a real season not for a strange one like this. Then it’s clear that the player is not ours and that we obviously depend on what Inter’s decisions will be.”

Giulini discussed other players in the squad that could be transferred in the upcoming summer transfer window and his plans.

“I think it’s right not to close any possibilities for anyone. It’s clear that in this squad there are guys that I see as future captains and that I’d like to keep. Alessio Cragno is one of them, but so is Joao Pedro as well as Luca Ceppitelli. But players who are in the middle of their careers like Alessio could get offers. And if they reveal for some personal ambition to have to change their home, it’s right, for what they’ve given me and Cagliari in these six years, to start negotiations.”

Finally, Giulini spoke about how difficult it would be to lose important players in the summer and what he wants to happen until the end of the season.

“The market will be different, it’s difficult for important players to leave the club in this transfer window, I don’t expect consistent offers. But you never know. The only thing I hope is that there are no market rumours before the end of this season.”
