Inter & PSG One Step Away From Agreeing Deal Worth €60M For Juventus Target Mauro Icardi

Inter and Paris Saint-Germain are getting closer to reaching an agreement over the permanent transfer of Mauro Icardi according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The two clubs are described as being just one step away from reaching an agreement worth in the region of €60 million which will be made up of a fixed amount plus add-ons and they wish to finalise a deal by the end of this month.

Negotiations between the clubs are being helped along by two factors, the first being Icardi has already signed a four year contract with Paris Saint-Germain and the second being the clause which means Paris Saint-Germain will have to pay Inter more if they try and offload him to an Italian club.

Should the deal be finalised, it will help Inter to remain strong in their battle to keep a hold of Lautaro Martinez, who is subject to great interest from Barcelona.

Inter have identified RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner as his possible replacement but as things stand Liverpool are closest to him.

Italian Media Report Inter To Sign PSG’s Edinson Cavani Regardless Of If Barcelona Target Lautaro Martinez Stays

Edinson Cavani will arrive at Inter regardless of whether Lautaro Martinez stays or leaves amid intense ongoing media speculation with regard to his future according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Lautaro has been heavily linked with a potential Summer transfer window switch to Barcelona for some time now and if he were to leave for the Blaugrana then Inter would try to bring in RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner to replace him whilst Cavani would be the third choice striker and that would also be the case even if Lautaro stayed put.

Inter could also potentially acquire Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo as part of a deal that sends Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona, who in turn are negotiating a deal with Man City where they swap Nelson Semedo for his compatriot Joao Cancelo. Once this has been concluded, the report continues, Barcelona will then offering Cancelo plus cash to Inter for Lautaro Martinez.

Cavani is out of contract at the end of next month thus meaning Inter could add a top quality striker to their ranks on a free transfer.

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone On UEFA Cup Win With Inter In 1998: “Javier Zanetti Scored A Wonderful Goal”

Former Inter midfielder Diego Simeone has reminisced about the 1998 UEFA Cup final which Inter triumphed over Lazio in in an interview with European football’s governing body UEFA’s official website UEFA.com.

“I think that the first goal that I set up for Ivan Zamorano sums up the way I see and understand football. Already as a player I looked for practical solutions rather than beautiful ones,” he began the interview.

“Obviously, I tried to find that space after a great move from Zamorano. After that, Zanetti scored a wonderful goal and Ronaldo’s goal capped off a terrific result.”

He then went on to sing the praises of Ronaldo and went so far as to suggest that he was one of the best players who he played alongside during his 19-year-long playing career.

“Ronaldo was probably one of the best teammates I ever had as a player. I’m pretty sure I enjoyed Ronaldo at his best. He was strong, healthy and without all those knee problems he had to endure afterwards. And at his tender age, that made him a completely extraordinary player.

“We could’ve won the title in a season that was weird back then. He helped us win the UEFA Cup in a great final where we were better than them.”

Simeone joined Inter in the Summer of 1997 from Atletico Madrid, who he is currently the manager of. He spent two seasons with Inter before departing for fellow Serie A side Lazio.

During his time on Inter’s books, the former Argentine national team player made 85 appearances across all competitions in which he scored 14 goals and provided a total of six assists for his teammates.

Since going into management in 2006, Simeone has been linked with becoming the Inter manager on several occasions and he has also shared his desire to one day manage the club.

Ex-Inter Defender Colonnese: “Not Sure If Federico Chiesa Fits Into Conte’s 3-5-2 Formation”

Former Inter defender Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Colonnese has shared a doubt he has regarding Federico Chiesa’s suitability for Inter.

Inter have long been linked with making a move for the highly rated Italian national team winger, who Fiorentina reportedly want in the region of €60 million for, but Colonnese has revealed he is not sure if Chiesa is a good tactical fit for the Nerazzurri club.

“Federico is a strong player in Fiorentina, but when you go to the big teams, everything can change,” Colonnese remarked in an interview with Italian television show ’30 minuto’ yesterday afternoon local time, as per Italian news outlet violanews.com.

“In my opinion, Chiesa cannot play as a second striker in a great the team. He is good on the wing but he must score more goals especially if he is purchased as a striker. He is devastating in a 4-3-3 but I don’t know if he is suitable for Conte’s 3-5-2.”

This season the 22-year-old has made 26 appearances across all competitions to date. In just over 2100 minutes on the park, Chiesa has scored seven goals and has tallied five assists.

Recent reports in the media, including one in today’s print edition of Tuttosport, have suggested that Inter could offer central midfielder Radja Nainggolan to La Viola as part of a deal for Chiesa in order to bring down the cost of a deal.

Nerazzurri Legend Ruben Sosa: “PSG’s Edinson Cavani Would Do Very Well At Inter”

Former Inter attacker Ruben Sosa has shared his belief that compatriot Edinson Cavani would be a good signing for Inter this Summer.

Cavani’s current contract with Paris Saint-Germain is due to expire at the end of next month and Inter have been heavily linked with moving for him on a free transfer with many reports suggesting Inter have already offered him a contract.

“I think Cavani would do very well at Inter, he would be a great signing for anyone. It is the right time for him to go to Inter. It would give him prestige and new stimuli after the success he had in France,” Sosa remarked in an interview with Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

“Fans fear he is past his best? It is not the case. He is physically well and is very motivated. He can still perform at the highest levels for another two to three years.”

Next he was asked about the prospect of a strike force of Romelu Lukaku and Cavani.

“I like the idea of it very much. He could integrate really well with Icardi and compose a deadly partnership. Cavani has shown that he can play with everyone and always do his best. One of his biggest strengths is he plays for the team. He scores a lot but also thinks of his teammates.”

He then spoke on Inter’s history of having Uruguayan players in their ranks.

“We Uruguayans have always had a special relationship with Inter. I think of myself but also Chino Recoba and more recently Matias Vecino.”

Next Sosa spoke on Vecino and what he thinks of him as a player.

“I consider him to be a good midfielder, he is one of those players who always gives everything on the field. Matias is a warrior.”

He then went on to speak about compatriot Diego Godin who is reportedly facing an uncertain future with Inter.

Reports in the media have suggested that the former Atletico Madrid player could depart the club after just a year with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United bot having been linked with him.

“Everyone knows that he is a great player. He has not always played this year because of his age, but he can still give a lot to Inter.

“He must stay at Inter in order to get back to the level he was at at Atletico Madrid and to establish himself in Milan. I am convinced that Diego can still do very well.

“He is a leader and a true captain who makes a team and knows how to help young players to improve. If I were Inter, I would hold on tight to him.”
