Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “There’s Regret For Dropping 2 Points, We Responded Well”

Inter manager Antonio Conte has admitted that there is regret after his side failed to pick up all three points and dropped two points as they had to settle for a draw against Hellas Verona.

No sooner had the game started at the Stadio Marc’Antonio got underway and Inter found themselves behind after Darko Lazovic beat Samir Handanovic at his near post having got by Milan Skriniar.

Inter reacted at the start of the second half as they scored twice and they proceeded to take control of the game but could not see it out as Miguel Veloso scored with a few minutes to spare.

“We immediately conceded and it was certainly a psychological blow but then we started playing again after suffering and responded blow for blow. Let’s not forget that Verona are a very physical team and you have to face them with the same intensity,” he remarked in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the match in Verona.

“The boys’ response was important in terms of commitment and self-sacrifice but there is regret for having dropped two points and conceding from Verona’s only shot on goal in the second half.”

He was then asked why Inter have now lost a total of 20 points from winning positions over the course of this season.

“There’s a positive aspect, and that is that we take the lead. Obviously we have not managed the situation well and it happened against Sassuolo and Bologna too. Sometimes there are unfortunate situations, other times we make it ours. We try to work hard to try to raise the bar.”

In conclusion he was asked about the reliance on playing the ball up to Romelu Lukaku.

“This was prepared on the basis of the opponent. They applied pressure across the board and individual duels were created. In this way we put them in serious difficulty. The simplest thing in this case is to go with the direct ball to the strikers and create a two against two situation.”

Gianluca Di Marzio: “Inter Coach Antonio Conte Not Happy With Christian Eriksen, Wants More From Him”

Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia journalist and transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Inter manager Antonio Conte has been far from impressed with Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen arrived in a circa €20 million deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the most recent January transfer window but has left a lot to be desired with his performances for the most part.

The Danish national team attacking midfielder has shown glimpses of what he is capable of but largely struggled to adapt to Conte’s 3-5-2 system and this led to a change to a 3-4-1-2 system but Eriksen, with the exception of the matches against Napoli and Sampdoria, has not done any better.

“Conte is not happy with Eriksen. For now, Inter are not thinking about selling him, it is premature and we must give him time but Conte wants a different intensity and wants more from Eriksen,” Di Marzio explained whilst present in the Sky Sport Italia studios prior to Inter’s 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Eriksen was dropped to the bench for the clash and was a late substitute but was unable to make any sort of impact in his few minutes on the field.

Hellas Verona President Setti On Inter Linked Kumbulla: “When Time Is Right We’ll Do Everything Calmly”

Hellas Verona president Maurizio Setti has admitted that Marash Kumbulla has a number of clubs on his trail ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Italian born Albanian national team central defender is widely regarded as one of the best young talents in Serie A and has drawn links to Inter, Lazio and Juventus in particular in the Italian media as of late.

“We’ve closed the deal with Marotta [laughs], jokes aside he is a top-class player, many teams are following him and when the time is right we will do everything calmly,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, prior to the 2-2 draw with Inter at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

“We know what we want to get for him. He is an important player who comes from our youth academy who must be valued in the right way.”

He was then asked whether or not the player’s value has been impacted following the season’s resumption post-lockdown.

“Has his value increased after lockdown? Not that much comeon.”

Kumbulla is having his breakthrough season at the Gialloblu club, who he is under contract with until the end of the 2021/22 season.

This season the 20-year-old has made 24 appearances across all competitions to date. In just shy of 2000 minutes on the park, Kumbulla has scored a single goal and helped his side keep numerous clean sheets.

Inter Wing-Back Antonio Candreva: “A Lot To Work On, We Deserved To Win”

Inter wing-back Antonio Candreva has admitted there is regret having not picked up all three points against Hellas Verona, a match he feels he and his teammates were deserving of winning.

Candreva scored Inter’s equaliser shortly after the second half resumed and played the ball that Federico Dimarco put into his own net to put Inter 2-1 ahead but it proved to not be enough as Hellas Verona scored late on through Miguel Veloso.

“You can always do better, especially if you equalise. There is regret for not having brought home the three points,” Candreva began an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the match.

The Italian, who has been with Inter since 2016, then went on to insist that there is work to be done to improve things.

“There is a lot to work on, but in the end it is the small details that determine the matches. Verona have put many teams in difficulty when at home and we managed to reverse things. We have to get back to work starting tomorrow and think about the next match.”

Next the former Lazio player spoke on the first half and how it compared to the much better performance shown in the second half at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

“We conceded a goal and we suffered for the first 20 minutes but then we created chances. They were fine in the first half but in the second half we deserved to win it.”

In conclusion he was asked about playing in a 3-4-1-2 system and how that changes things for him.

“Our tasks are always the same. In the second half Conte told us to get into the box more because we no longer had a mezzala so it was up to us to fill the box.”

Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “We Deserved To Win, We Hope Nothing Serious With Lukaku”

Inter manager Antonio Conte has shared his belief that Inter deserved to come away from the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi with all three points opposed to the one they had to settle for.

Inter fell behind minutes after kick-off but managed to turn things in their favour thanks to a goal from Antonio Candreva and own goal from Federico Dimarco. In the final few minutes though Inter conceded and threw away two points.

“In terms of effort, hunger, determination, I have no complaints. Let’s not forget, we played against a Verona side who play at a high tempo and makes that their greatest weapon. I think tonight Inter replied blow for blow,” Conte began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the full time whistle.

“There is the usual regret, that we conceded a goal five minutes from time on a throw-in. These are situations that are disappointing, because you drop points along the way and they add up. We deserved to win the game.”

He was then notified that Inter have now dropped 20 points from winning positions this term and asked whether he expected such a situation.

“I think that were doing an important job and that can be seen. I think you can see the results of the work we’re doing. The fact we lost 20 points should push us to reflect and continue improving.

“We’re well aware that we have dropped points in a stupid fashion throughout the season, otherwise we’d be talking about a very different season.”

He then went on to reveal the reason why Romelu Lukaku was substituted with little over 10 minutes to play.

“He had a problem in his back and also the adductor, we hope it’s nothing serious and just a knock.”

Next the former Italian national team boss was asked why his team are so inconsistent, even during the course of a single match.

“We have to be better at handling certain situations. I also think that experience can lead to an improvement in management, many times we get into trouble in a way that is too simple.

“Having said that, in the second half Verona only shot when the goal was scored. We are working a lot, I don’t want to make considerations because when I say something they [the media] say that I criticise the team regardless. I always speak constructively to improve certain situations. The boys know that very well, we will try to do better.”

Next he was asked what it will take to improve Inter.

“I don’t answer, because if I do tomorrow you will massacre me. I’ll make my considerations at the end of the season, so will the club and the players. If I have something to say, I’ll say it to the club.

“We all want to win, but it’s about understanding how close or far away we are from winning. Some see it one way, some in another.”

Conte proceeded to discuss Christian Eriksen, who came on for the final few minutes in the match, and whether him being a starter lead to the team becoming disorientated.

“If you look at the numbers, Inter have more possession and have scored more goals than any other side since the lockdown ended. So it’s about how you look at it.

“We improved our domination of the match and of territory, but the result is what ultimately counts and we threw away three points with Bologna, two against Verona. The lads are giving their all, we have strengths, but also some weaknesses.

“As for Eriksen, he has played regularly since the restart, he is growing and I am trying to put him in a context that suits him. Borja Valero did very well again tonight, so we have to rotate the squad and keep everyone in good shape.”

He was then asked about on loan Alexis Sanchez and whether he will be with the club next season.

“I don’t want to talk about next year, now there is a season to finish and then we will make evaluations.”

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta: “Me Returning To Juventus Is Fake News, Enough Talk About Lautaro Martinez”

Inter CEO for Sport Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has insisted that Inter must turn the page on their loss to Bologna this past weekend moments prior to Inter’s match with Hellas Verona kicking off at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

“There is a lot of regret but now we have to put aside that defeat and get an excellent result tonight,” he began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

Next he was asked about the fact both Christian Eriksen and Lautaro Martinez have been dropped to the bench for the match.

“As far as the rotation is concerned, I think it is only normal given the matches are close together. It is only right that the coach decided the formation from start, then we have 5 substitutions that could come off the bench who could all be decisive. Lautaro? I’d say we’ve talked about him too much.”

He was then asked whether he expected more from Danish national team attacking midfielder Eriksen.

“There were and are many expectations but it is clear that with him coming from abroad there could be difficulties. Conte is doing his best to insert him but you have to be patient and not give him too many responsibilities.

“Has this destabilised the team? No, it is not the responsibility of any individual. The squad has expressed themselves well, then the change of formation is a change physiologically, I think. The coach has also done this in other places.

He then went on to categorically deny rumours which have suggested that he could return to Juventus.

“This is absolutely fake news, I am tied to Inter and I am feeling good in Milan and working at this club. I am very stimulated to reach goals for this club. I want to get good results and make my contribution. It takes patience and this is the thing that is missing most of all.

“You need peace of mind to achieve important goals, we grow month by month beyond statistics. Today we need stability and tranquillity.”

Next he was asked whether there will be particular attention paid to Hellas Verona’s Marash Kumbulla during tonight’s encounter.

“He has been linked to many clubs and I am happy for him because he is very young. I am sorry that he is Italian but has chosen to represent another national team but he is one of the talents that Italian football can count upon.”

In conclusion Marotta was asked whether a player with personality and malice is required in order for Inter to get better.

“I agree that that is a step needed to create a winning mentality, even if it not easy to make such players come to the club. A winning mentality is obtained when you have results and the main objective is to identify champions together with talented young players.”
