German football journalist Philipp Kessler, who works for BILD, has revealed that David Alaba has some doubts regarding a potential transfer from Bayern Munich to Inter.
The Austrian national team defender has been linked with Inter in recent weeks and in an interview with Italian news outlet FCInter1908.it, Kessler has admitted Inter are interested but Alaba has doubts.
“From what I know, Alaba interests Inter a lot and Conte is a great admirer of him. At the moment, however, there is no agreement,” he began.
“Alaba, as far as we know, would have some doubts about the Nerazzurri. There is talk of interest from PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City but Bayern Munich officials are very confident that no concrete moves will come from these clubs. Real Madrid and Barcelona are both really interested.”
He was then asked whether he is aware if there has been any contact between Inter and Alaba’s representatives as of late.
“Some of the media in Italy have claimed this but these rumours are not what we at BILD know. I really do not think that there has been any direct contact between the player’s representatives and Inter.”
Next he spoke on the current status of contract extension talks between Bayern Munich and Alaba, whose current deal expires at the end of next season.
“It is a difficult situation. Alaba wants to become one of Bayern’s highest paid players. He is expecting to earn around €15 million gross per year including bonuses. Alaba knows his value.
“The Austrian has matured a lot, he is now also a leader on the field. He is now also a central defender, although he has played most of his career as a left back. I think Alaba is gaining more appreciation due to the fact he is playing at centre back and Bayern already have two world class players in Jérôme Boateng and Lucas Hernández there.”
Kessler was then asked about Ivan Perisic and whether the newly crowned German champions will sign him outright from Inter.
“At the moment it does not seem that Bayern will decide to buy him outright. He is over 30-years-old and earns a lot and Bayern do not want excessive costs as part of their new club policy. I have liked what he has done on the field but at the moment I repeat that the feeling is that they will not sign him.”
He then went on to rule out the possibility of Thiago Alcantara ending up at Inter.
“Thiago will most likely return to Spain. Bayern officials say there are still no official offers for him on the negotiating table.
“I can see Thiago playing for any great team in the world but I don’t think he will go to Inter. In my opinion, the Nerazzurri have a strong team, but they are not yet ready to win the Champions League and that’s one of his biggest goals.”
In conclusion he spoke on how Inter are viewed in Germany.
“People are acknowledging the fact that Inter are resurrecting. They have been able to contend for top spot in Serie A with Juventus in the first half of the season.
“There is a belief that if they continue to invest in the team, they will soon be able to be one of the top teams in Europe again. They have strong players and very good management.
“In general, there is a perception of a rebirth of Italian football after years in which Juventus have dominated.”
