Inter Cool Interest In Juventus Target Federico Chiesa & Step Up Interest In Man City’s Joao Cancelo & Liverpool Target Timo Werner

Federico Chiesa has slid down Inter’s list of transfer targets ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

The Fiorentina and Italian national team winger has been very strongly linked with a move both to Inter and Juventus for some time now but this report claims that he is not one of Inter’s top targets at the moment as they are instead focusing in on other players.

Inter are instead focused on bringing in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo to improve the team and the report goes on to add that as a result Juventus are in pole position to land the 22-year-old sensation.

It goes on to explain that the reigning Serie A champions are prepared to offer both Rolando Mandragora as well as Cristian Romero as part of a deal for him.

Spanish Media Claims Barcelona Offer Inter Umititi, Rakitic, Rafinha & Vidal To Lower €111M Price Tag On Lautaro Martinez

Barcelona are willing to offer Inter a quartet of players in a bid to reduce Inter’s asking price for Lautaro Martinez according to a report from the online edition of Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Inter continue to demand at least €80 million or €90 million plus a player or players for the highly rated 22-year-old but Barcelona do not wish to pay that much for the Argentine national team striker, who has a €111 million release clause in his current contract.

Former Inter loanee Rafinha, World Cup winning defender Samuel Umtiti and long term linked duo Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic could all be offered to the Nerazzurri club with the report stating that in terms of their age and quality they would be ideal for Inter.

It is presently unclear how Inter feel about this idea but what is clear is that Inter are not wanting to do any deal for Lautaro Martinez on anyone’s terms but their own.

The report goes on to add that Barcelona wish to finalise a deal for Lautaro as well as Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic by the end of the month.

Inter Owned Valentino Lazaro’s Future At Newcastle Very Uncertain

Valentino Lazaro is facing an uncertain future at Newcastle United according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The Austrian national team player joined the Premier League outfit back in the January transfer window in a loan deal until the end of the season from Inter and as part of the deal Newcastle United obtained an option to buy which is reportedly set at around €20 million.

The report from the Rome based newspaper explains that Lazaro’s future at St James’ Park will largely be decided by whether or not Steve Bruce remains in charge.

With Newcastle United set to be taken over by a Saudi Arabian led consortium, many reports have suggested that they could bring in a big name manager.

Whilst out on loan at Newcastle United, Lazaro has made a total of five appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored a single goal.

Spanish Media Claim Real Madrid & Barcelona To Battle It Out For Inter’s Milan Skriniar

La Liga’s two biggest clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid are both interested in signing Inter central defender Milan Skriniar according to a report from the online edition of Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Should 2018 World Cup winner Samuel Umtiti depart Barcelona in the coming months then the Blaugrana club will move for Skriniar.

As for Real Madrid, Los Blancos would like to sign him as the long term replacement for 34-year-old club captain Sergio Ramos, whose contract with the club is due to expire at the end of next season.

25-year-old Skriniar is in the midst of his third season with Inter and although he has shown some signs of struggle adapting to Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system, he still continues to be one of the best defenders in Italy at the moment.

The Slovakian international, who has a contract with Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season, has made 32 appearances across all competitions to date this term, in which he has tallied one assist.

Inter Expect Big Money To Let €111M Rated Barcelona Target Lautaro Martinez Leave Club

Inter are standing strong with their demands for Lautaro Martinez despite Barcelona seemingly being reluctant to pay them according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Barcelona most recently offered €80 million plus a single player but Inter rejected the offer from the Blaugrana club, who have seemingly identified Lautaro as one of their top transfer targets ahead of the upcoming Summer transfer window.

Inter however expect the 22-year-old Argentine’s €111 million release clause to be activated or an offer of €90 million plus two players with it understood that Junior Firpo or Nelson Semedo are both seen as suitable counterparts by Inter management.

The report goes on to state that Lautaro will soon have to come out into the open with regard to what he wants to do as the highly rated striker, who is under contract with Inter until 2023, has so far remained tight lipped on his future.

Italian Minister of Sports Spadafora: “Everyone Should Be A Bit Calmer, From The Outside You’re All Scientists”

Italian Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora discussed the restart of Serie A on a livestream on his Facebook page yesterday afternoon.

“There is a difference in positions what route to take which exists as a result of a general complexity, I would invite everyone not to say that we are creating chaos, but rather to say that we are moving cautiously to prevent everything from restarting and then being forced to stop everything again. There is concern even among the players, many people write to me on the social media.”

Spadafora then commented on the criticism levied against him suggesting that a professional athlete should be in his position, not a politician.

“I’d invite everyone to be a little calmer, from the outside you’re all scientists, footballers, referees. They tell me ‘you’re not one who comes from the world of sport’, in order to be a sports minister you don’t need to have been an athlete, I don’t think Speranza has ever operated on someone or De Micheli has ever driven a train.

“You have to listen to who knows more than us, but then take responsibility. The world of football asks us to be the ones to take responsibility for the stop, they won’t decide on their own.”

The FIGC protocol has been heavily criticised, in part for its vagueness and lack of specific solution should a player test positive once the season has restarted.

Serie A teams have been instructed that they are allowed to return to squad training from tomorrow onward, but Inter aren’t planning to begin it yet, unhappy with the restrictive conditions imposed on the squad.

Lega Serie A have been keenly following the situation in German football, after the Bundesliga restarted this weekend. None of the Inter squad or staff have tested positive for Coronavirus, and so should be prepared to restart the league in mid-June, which seems to be the targeted restart period.

FIGC Hand Over Updated Medical Protocol Proposal For Resumption Of Football To Italian Government

The Italian football federation have handed over their updated proposal of the medical protocol to be put in place for the resumption on football in Italy, this evening to the Italian government, according to a report from Italian media outlet GianlucaDiMarzio.com.

The report details how the new protocol was handed over by the FIGC to Italian minister of sport Vincenzo Spadafora, which will be handed over to the Technical Scientific Committee should it pass the government’s checks.

If the new protocol is approved, the clubs will see two issues resolved. The first is that there is no longer the obligation to go into locked training camps at each respective club’s training ground, and the second is that if a player tests positive for Coronavirus then only that player will go into quarantine.

Squad training could resume as early as Tuesday next week, the report continues, only a day later than initially expected. These rules will only be valid for the next 14 days of squad training, with the resumption of the league requiring daily checks of sports centres and a different protocol.

The Forgotten Faces At Inter – Matthias Sammer: A Nerazzurri Legend That Never Was

In this series of articles we will be reminding you of players you forgot ever donned the black and blue of the Nerazzurri, as well as discussing and dissecting their time at Inter as well as the rest of their careers.

First in the series is Ballon D’Or winning German sweeper/midfielder Matthias Sammer.

Ask anyone in German football about some of the best defensive midfield players that they have ever produced and there is no doubt Matthias Sammer would be somewhere near the top of that list.

Matthias-Sammer-Inter-06.jpg

Sammer began his career in 1985 with his local club Dynamo Dresden who were incidentally being managed by his father Klaus.

Sammer took no time to adapt to senior football but a little longer to find his position on the pitch. The German scored eight goals in his debut season playing as a striker before finding himself out on the wing the following season.

During his time at Dresden, Sammer picked up an East German Championship winners medal as well as one FDGB Pokal title. Dresden were beaten in the UEFA Cup semi-final by fellow German side VFB Stuttgart who poached the services of Sammer at the end of that season.

It was at Stuttgart where Sammer started to appear in the spotlight as he was now playing in the unified German top flight, the Bundesliga. Playing now in his customary central midfield role, Sammer helped the club to sixth in his first season, adding eleven goals in the process.

However, it was to be his exploits in the next year that were to bring him to San Siro. VFB Stuttgart, with Sammer running their midfield, became the first unified German champions in 1991/92. Soon came a call from The Nerazzuri..

In the summer of 1992, Inter completed the signing of Sammer to replace the outgoing Lothar Matthäus who returned to his native Germany that summer.

Matthias-Sammer-Inter-02.jpg

The deal was seen as great coup for Inter would were looking to try and challenge for the Scudetto alongside cross town rivals AC Milan.

Sammer was to only last half a season in Italy, citing his inability to fit in with the Italian lifestyle and homesickness as the reason for his short stay.

On the pitch Sammer managed eleven appearances, scoring four times. One of the goals he scored happened to be against Juventus in the Derby D’Italia which instantly earned him the respect of all Interisti.

Sammer’s short yet productive spell for Inter did nothing to damage his burgeoning reputation in the game so when he requested to return to Germany in January 1993, he wasn’t short of offers.

Matthias-Sammer-Inter-04.jpg

The German returned to his native land with Borussia Dortmund where he went on to achieve both personal and club success.

Sammer captained Dortmund to back to back German titles and the Champions League title in 1997 as they triumphed over Juventus 3-1 in Munich.

On a personal level, Sammer won the Ballon D’Or in 1996 as well as winning Player of the Tournament at the European Championships in the same year as he led Germany to the title on English soil.

Injury curtailed Sammer’s career in 1998, but there can be no doubt that his achievements on the pitch are up with the best of his generation. Sammer successfully made the transition to management with Dortmund, winning the 2002 Bundesliga title before becoming a director at Bayern Munich.

Matthias-Sammer-Inter-05.jpg

No one will ever be able to know whether or not Sammer could have been an Inter great as his time at the club was too short. Understandably, he sought to return home to his native Germany as he couldn’t settle in Italy but one can’t help but think what an impact he would have made running the Nerazzuri midfield throughout the 1990s.

He could have been potentially playing alongside a young Javier Zanetti and Ronaldo. In Sammer’s case it wasn’t a question of his ability that made his Inter stint forgettable it was its severe lack of longevity.
