Inter Treble Hero Maicon: “The Match Against Siena Was A Hard But Unforgettable Match”

Former Inter right back Maicon remembered the Nerazzurri’s Treble winning season earlier today, discussing the final league game of that season against Siena in a video posted on Inter’s Twitter page.

“It was a hard but unforgettable match. On 16 May 2010, Siena-Inter. It was definitely our second step towards the conquest of the Treble. Always Forza Inter!”

The Brazilian full back spent six years of his career with the Nerazzurri from 2006 to 2012, winning four league titles with the club in that time, as well as two Coppa Italia and the Champions League, amongst other trophies. He made 249 career appearances for Inter in his six years at the club, scoring 20 goals and providing 50 assists.

Maicon was a core part of coach Jose Mourinho’s squad in the 2009/10 Treble winning campaign, missing only five games all season.

The Brazilian right back made 52 appearances across all competitions that season, for a total of 4582 minutes. In that time, he scored seven goals and provided 12 assists, including scoring a crucial goal against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.

Ex-Nerazzurri Defender Daniele Adani: “Inter Should Sign Brazilian Talent Kaio Jorge”

Former Inter defender Daniele Adani discussed Brazilian target Kaio Jorge in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

“I talked about Kaio Jorge in the live coverage with Bobo Vieri and Sky, discussing how Inter could have invested Lautaro Martinez’s capital gain if he moved to Barcelona in exchange for Griezmann.

“I saw him at the U17 World Cup where he was the absolute hero, I saw him in the Copa Libertadores enter less than 30 minutes from the end and practically win the game.”

Adani highlighted how impressive the player is, despite his young age, and compared him to Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus.

“We are talking about an 18-year-old, he’s a player who has football inside him, he has a great touch and intelligence. It’s clear that he doesn’t have any experience, but you have to move well in advance for Brazilian talents. He reminds me of Gabriel Jesus, he has the shot and knows how to play with others.”

Kaio Jorge, who is contracted to Brazilian side Santos until 2021, has made two appearances so far this season, for a total of 66 minutes.

In that time, he has scored one goal and already shown his qualities. Last year, the Brazilian teenager made three appearances for Santos in the Brazilian topflight.

Inter are looking to strengthen their attacking department in the upcoming summer transfer, already looking for a possible replacement for 22-year-old Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez, who is heavily wanted by Catalan giants Barcelona.

Whilst the Nerazzurri are considering veteran options, they also want a strong set of young players who can grow as a squad.

Italian PFA President Tommasi: “Makes No Sense To Resume Season If Mandatory Quarantine Provisions Remain As They Do Now”

AIC president Damiano Tommasi discussed the return to Serie A and the safety of the players in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Bari based newspaper Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno.

“Surely today the voice of the players and footballers does not carry the weight it needs in a phase where returning to training and playing means not being able to comply with safety regulations.

“Attention must be paid for all the people who will come into contact with the athletes and that is why any protocol must be thought of and agreed upon with the widest possible consensus.”

He then moved onto talking about the about the protocols given by the Italian Technical Scientific Commission.

“To date, we have no idea what the final changes are. The previous protocol was very rigid and certainly complicated, especially in the absence of adequate structures.

“To date we cannot afford to move forward and risk risky attitudes that could boomerang in case of a positive test. It makes no sense today to risk restarting if the mandatory quarantine provision remains as it is today.

“However, another aspect that is little considered is the concern for those who test positive. What could be the consequences for the individual? What is really at risk? A good overview of the risks would also help to make the correct decision.”

The AIC president discussed how the final games of the season will be played behind closed doors, without a crowd present.

“It is an unavoidable side effect in this emergency. It will be a different and less adrenaline-filled football, at least hopefully it will help to make footballers and fans appreciate even more the beauty of a loud stadium when they can fill it again.”

Finally, Tommasi spoke about the players’ salary cuts and how confusing the situation is considering the variety of contracts that players are bound by in Italy.

“The salary cut is always linked to the two factors, namely the drastic reduction in income and the actual performance of the work. Not knowing whether you return to the field, how, for how long and not having certain data, to date, on actual losses makes any decision complex and very subjective.

“Players who have multi-annual agreements are not in the same position as those who have their contracts expiring, as well as clubs that are not certain of the league in which they will be in next year, find it difficult to plan any contractual reshaping.”

Serie A is hoping to return next month, in the second week of June. Squads returned to their training centres last week to restart individual training sessions, with squad training set to restart near the end of the month. The German Bundesliga restarted today, giving Serie A a system to learn from.

Pordenone Want To Sign Inter Owned Goalkeeper Di Gregorio On Permanent Basis

Serie B side Pordenone are hoping to keep Inter owned goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, according to a report from Italian media outlet PassioneInter earlier today.

The report details how the 22-year-old Italian shot stopper quickly became a core part of the Serie B outfit and is now one of the most exciting players in the squad.

The player’s strong performances this season for the club has caused several Serie A sides to keep a close eye on him, monitoring his progress and considering making a move for the stopper.

Pordenone are hoping to keep Di Gregorio and are waiting to understand Inter’s position on the matter. The Nerazzurri will meet with the Serie B club to discuss the situation after the Coronavirus emergency ends, the report continues.

The 22-year-old Italian goalkeeper has made 26 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2340 minutes. In that time, he has conceded 30 goals and kept eight clean sheets.

Italian Media Claims Chelsea Target Dries Mertens Likely To Be Inter’s First Summer Signing

Dries Mertens is likely to be Inter’s first signing of the upcoming summer transfer window, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the 33-year-old Belgian striker’s contract is set to expire with Napoli at the end of the season. The player is interested in playing alongside friend and compatriot Romelu Lukaku, with the duo scoring 70 goals together with the Belgium national team.

Mertens also knows that a move to Inter would be his last big contract and so may wish to spend that time looking to fight for a trophy.

Mertens hasn’t won a trophy since 2014, the report continues, and belief in coach Antonio Conte’s project is growing. The 33-year-old Belgian striker has made 29 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1787 minutes. In that time, he has scored 12 goals and provided six assists.

Inter Prepared To Offer Over €30 Million For Juve Target Tonali

Inter are working hard to sign Brescia starlet Sandro Tonali and are ahead in the race, according to a report to Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com earlier today.

The report details how the 19-year-old Italian midfielder, who is contracted to the Lombard club until 2021, could still join either the Nerazzurri or the interested Juventus. The Bianconeri haven’t given up yet in the race for Tonali’s signature and are hoping to secure his signature ahead of the Nerazzurri, similar to the race for Dejan Kulusevski.

Inter are prepared to offer over €30 million for Tonali, the report continues, and have been hard at work to try and convince the player to choose Milan over Turin. The Italian international has been one of the best players for Brescia this season and is ready to move up in his career. The player has made 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2130 minutes. In that time, he has scored one goal and provided five assists.

Ex-Inter President Massimo Moratti: “My Biggest Regret Is Not Signing Eric Cantona, I’d Never Sell Lautaro Martinez”

Former Inter president Massimo Moratti spoke about many topics from the Treble to today’s squad in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Il Giornale.

First, he spoke about Inter’s 1-0 win over Siena 10 years ago today, their final game of that season.

“A very important game, perhaps the most painful in terms of the result. Worthy of a difficult season against an opponent like Roma who never gave up an inch. We didn’t think Siena could play with the tenacity and strength they showed and put on the pitch.

“The match was a tough one but fortunately Zanetti managed to assist Milito with a whiff of his own who then scored a crucial goal. I remember that the crowd was very happy because the one he won was the fifth Scudetto in a row, a remarkable result for our club.”

He moved onto talking about if he was scared of losing the league title at any point during that season.

“There was a moment when Roma overtook us by a point in the league but then lost at home to Sampdoria. There was a moment when more than fear of losing it there was the awareness that we had to put in more to see it through. The team always believed in it and never gave any signs of giving in both physically and mentally and in the end, we managed to win a hard and well-deserved Scudetto.”

The former Inter president touched on Diego Milito, who scored decisive goals at the end of that season.

“The usual Milito who then continued to be the decisive man. On May 5th he scored in the final of the Coppa Italia, then the goal against Siena on May 16th and six days later he scored that fantastic double that allowed us to return to the top of Europe.”

Moratti spoke about his reaction when the final whistle was blown at the end of the Champions League final.

“I think it was something incredible. When you care a lot about something, it almost doesn’t seem real when it comes true and you express everything you have inside, I was overjoyed.

“Then I have to tell you the truth, I immediately thought back to my father who had been the only one to win the Champions League, twice, with Inter. I think it was a nice gift to the club and the fans.”

He discussed the departure of coach Jose Mourinho straight after the Champions League final.

“Let’s say that he and I never talked about it because it was a spell not to be broken. I never bothered him about it even though it had been in the air for some time that something might happen at the end of the season.

“I remember that two days after the final we found ourselves at my house and we spoke about everything in a more relaxed way. Maybe after two or three years Mourinho gets tired of a situation and it’s okay that he decided to change his mind and left at the right time.”

The former Inter president revealed that he was disappointed that Mourinho chose not to return to Milan to celebrate the win.

“Yes, I have to say the truth that actually getting into Real Madrid’s car in that way made us argue. He could have certainly celebrated in Milan but maybe he didn’t want to expose himself in that way in front of the fans he loved. It was like a farewell and I think he didn’t feel like it.”

Moratti touched on the current Inter project being built.

“I really like Conte and the club is doing very well and is doing everything they can to make the team even stronger and more competitive. The managers are working well and then there’s the coach who has a great character and has given it to the team.”

He discussed how high the current Inter project can go and if they can close the gap with Juventus.

“They can go very high, they just have to keep working with perseverance. The gap with Juventus can be closed by maybe starting to win something but I think Inter are on the right track to be able to do it.”

The former Nerazzurri president revealed that he was still on Mauro Icardi’s side regarding the dispute with Inter.

“Yes, I said it because I felt like it, Mauro is a good guy. I think it was a matter of principle, even fair on the part of team. In the summer there was the possibility to sell him at a high price and I think they concluded an operation that could have been convenient for all the parties involved.”

Moratti suggested that he wouldn’t sell Lautaro Martinez if he was the current president of the club.

“I must say that Lukaku is much better than I thought. Besides being a good guy, he’s a great striker really. Lautaro on the other hand is very strong, a dream striker with a high tactical quality and is above average in a way that makes you think. I’d never sell him but then in today’s football these things count for little because there are so many variables that come into play.”

He discussed a deal that he was proud of completing and one that left a bitter taste in his mouth.

“Ibrahimovic-Eto’o was certainly the most successful deal that no one could have expected. My biggest regret is certainly Cantona, he would have helped us win so much, I’m sure. But then I have to tell you the truth there were so many regrets and players that I couldn’t get to!”

Finally, Moratti spoke about former Brazil star Ronaldo.

“Absolutely Ronaldo had been a big deal in every way. I’m also happy that he’s made his peace with the fans a little bit after some difficult years.

“He left in 2002 but I had the impression that he had suffered a lot during his years in Milan when he had to recover from those two terrible injuries. The environment was heavy for him and he suffered. But I can say with certainty that he was a true Phenomenon.”

Inter Treble Hero Diego Milito: “That Season Was A Year-Long Struggle, We Almost Lost The Serie A Title”

Former Inter forward Diego Milito discussed the Treble winning campaign in an interview in today’s print edition of the Italian magazine Sportweek, produced by Gazzetta dello Sport.

First, he spoke about his arrival in Milan that summer.

“I don’t remember the day, I can say that I knew Milan well because I often went there to visit my compatriots who would become teammates and who were already friends, Zanetti, Cambiasso and Samuel.

“That summer, before going back to Argentina for the holidays, I stopped in the city to look for a place to live, so as to gain time and then concentrate only on football. I told my father that I was happy to think that, in a few months’ time, I too would be in the Champions League. But at that moment I didn’t even imagine that I would make it to the finals, and that I would see for it myself.”

He moved onto talking about his first meeting at Inter.

“The entire executive staff. President Massimo Moratti, Marco Branca, Lele Oriali. Moratti shook my hand and, with a big smile, just said, welcome. In my five years at Inter he behaved like a father. To everyone, not just me. That’s why I always say that my greatest joy, on the evening in Madrid, when I won the Champions League, was to see happiness in his eyes.”

Milito touched on his meeting with Jose Mourinho.

“He had already called me on the phone to tell me about the squad, the system. Then he asked me if I wanted the number 22 shirt. It was the one I wore at Genoa. I said, coach, if it’s free, I’ll gladly take it.

“He said, actually it’s Orlandoni’s, the third goalkeepers. But don’t worry, I’ll talk to him. Orlandoni was great, he was fundamental in our victories, always a positive attitude, he kept the squad’s morale up.”

He discussed his compatriot and former teammate Javier Zanetti.

“Extraordinary. An example of attachment to work. I reflected on myself in him, we seem to be the same in everything. A real captain. I remember the trip back by train after Fiorentina – Inter 2-2. Koldrup, a defender, had scored almost at the end and Roma had overtaken us in the standings.

“Zanetti passed between us, we were sitting sad with our heads down, and he was full of energy, we’ll win the Scudetto, he repeated. We’ll win the Scudetto, he said. We’ll win it! And then the Roma-Samp we watched at home.

“If Roma had won, they would have had the title in their pocket. We watched them sitting on the couch, I almost lay down with Agustina, born a month earlier, lying on my chest. My wife passed by, do you want to give the baby to me? No, leave her here. I kept her the whole game, it ended 1-2.”

The Argentine moved on to talking about Esteban Cambiasso.

“He is the smartest tactical player I’ve ever played with. He was a coach on the field, he saw the game before the others. He knew his strengths and weaknesses, and that makes a great footballer.

“He knew he wasn’t fast, he knew he was in trouble on the open pitch and that’s why he always kept the team tight. In training camp, we were in a room together.

“We’d watch TV all the time, Argentine films, then I’d fall asleep a little earlier. With him and Zanetti we’d go and drink mate in Samuel’s room because he was the one who prepared it. Pandev slept in Pandev’s room, who complained that we didn’t let him rest.”

Milito then discussed Walter Samuel.

“One of the best people I met off the pitch, endowed with a special goodness. But on the pitch, he transformed, tough, gritty, evil. How many times I played against him, in Argentina or in training, at Inter and on the national team. They were right to call him the Wall, tactically formidable, for him it was a matter of honor not to concede.”

The former Nerazzurri forward touched on how the team were more than just teammates and had great respect for each other.

“No, we used to go out to dinner together. Of course, it was easier to hang out with other married people like myself than with Balotelli, for example. He was very young, he had different routines.

“We’d go to restaurants, he’d go to clubs. But we were really a formidable and united squad, I remember the barbecues at Pinetina at the end of training, all together, including the Italians and Eto’o, eating and laughing in the evening.”

He spoke about former Inter striker Mario Balotelli.

“A little boy who made a lot of mistakes because of his age. Materazzi talked to him a lot. Everyone talked to him a lot. Me too, to advise him, help him.”

Milito moved onto talking about the Brazilians in that Inter squad, Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio and Thiago Motta.

“I had a special relationship with Julio. I lived in the San Siro area, he was on the floor above mine. Our wives were friends, we went to Appiano Gentile together. Then, of course, we were mocking each other, I’d tell him how I’d score a goal, he’d say he’d take them all from me.”

The Argentine touched on how Jose Mourinho’s presence was needed to keep the squad working together well.

“Yes. He knew how to lead a team like us, finding a compromise between everyone to reach the goal. He brought out the best in everyone by alternating between being nice and mean. He even shouted at me during the games, he knew that the reprimands, even the strong ones, shouted at me, were a thousand times stronger.”

Milito spoke about the two Italians in the squad, Francesco Toldo and Marco Materazzi.

“Fundamental. It was said that Inter were not very Italian, which made them feel even more important and involved within the squad. Matrix and Toldo kept us cheerful, they were leaders in a team that had many leaders. And as many characters, Muntari, for example. He was really an original guy, and in training he was hard.”

The former Inter forward spoke about his relationship with Samuel Eto’o.

“I’m proud to have played with him. I’m more of a penalty area striker, he’s able to play close to me as well as further out, adapting to dirty work. For Inter he made himself available, even sacrificing himself as a full-back.”

He touched on the most important moments of that season for him.

“Kiev, in the Champions League. We’re down 1-0 with four minutes to go, it’s November and we’re out of the Champions League. Mou had charged us at halftime as only he was capableof , on the pitch we didn’t give up, Sneijder and I overturned it in extra time.

“Again, the Champions League, the quarter finals against Chelsea. They were the team to beat, we prayed that the draw would keep them away from us. When they came home, Eto’o scored and we played one of our best games. Finally, the semi-final against Barcelona, 3-1 at home, 0-1 away, with ten men. Very hard and exciting.”

Milito revealed that the squad did dream of winning the Treble.

“Yes. For us it was a dream, and that gave us the strength to make it come true. Mou told us that we had to dream, it’s good that you do it, but you don’t have to turn the dream into an obsession. We succeeded and we won.”

He spoke about his best goals in that season.

“The goal where there was the turn against Van Buyten and the touch on Butt’s exit, nice, yes. But the one against Roma, in the Coppa Italia final, a right-footed cross on the far post, I’d put on the same level.”

The former Inter striker discussed if he preferred winning the league title or the Champions League.

“I enjoyed the Scudetto a lot. It was a year-long struggle, at a certain point it seemed to have escaped us.”

Finally, Milito discussed his comments after the Champions League final where he suggested that he might be leaving the club.

“It was a mistake. In my years at Inter I’ve had offers to leave, but when you feel good in a place, you shouldn’t leave it. And I didn’t.”

Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti: “José Mourinho Had A Magical Power Unlike Any Other Coach”

Inter vice president Javier Zanetti discussed his career and the famous Treble winning season in an interview in today’s print edition of the Italian magazine Sportweek, produced by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I was in Fiumicino, I was about to leave for Argentina with my wife Paula. The phone rings, I see a Portuguese number. ‘I don’t know’, I think. I’ll answer it. I hear a voice, in Italian, ‘I’m José Mourinho, I just signed for Inter, sorry if I don’t speak Italian very well, you’re the first person I’ve called. I’m counting on you, you’ll be my captain.’ The call ended, I looked at my wife and said, ‘Paula, something incredible has happened’.”

He touched on his wife’s reaction to what he said.

“She was speechless. As was I.”

Zanetti discussed his favourite photo from the Treble winning season under Mourinho.

“Easy, when we entered the pitch at the Bernabeu to warm up, the image of our fans, the perfect push to crown the dream. I can’t forget it.”

The Argentine touched on how the season didn’t start too well for the Nerazzurri.

“Against Lazio, in the Super Cup, we had a great game, we didn’t deserve the defeat.”

He also spoke about how Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic left in the summer to join Barcelona.

“We were in Los Angeles, after the friendly against Chelsea the news came out. It wasn’t out of the blue. Anyway, with someone leaving, Eto’o was coming to play with us. I mean, the team wasn’t depressed.”

He didn’t think that there was a distance between Ibrahimovic and the Argentinian player’s in the Inter squad.

“I don’t know. It was his choice to go to Barcelona, there wasn’t much else behind it. We had won with Ibrahimovic in previous years.”

Zanetti discussed what Mourinho had told the team during the training camp in the summer of 2009.

“During the training camp he explained the project, ‘We triumphed in Italy. Now we have to do something more. What do you say if we try to make history with this club?’.”

The Argentine spoke about how the team felt about Mourinho’s press conferences.

“He gave the best of himself, his whole personality emerged. He spoke clearly, in the locker room and outside. All we had to do was agree with him in the game.”

The Nerazzurri vice president touched on how he made Mourinho’s best starting 11.

“With his merits… I’m proud of it. I’ve improved with him.”

Zanetti touched on how he still improved at 35 under Mourinho.

“I’ve never had as much confidence in myself as I did with him as the coach. I soon realized that if he needed me, he would line me up in any role. Believe me, this for a footballer is the best.”

He revealed that the squad didn’t go to either Mourinho or President Massimo Moratti if they had a problem.

“Well do you want the truth? We didn’t go to either of them. In that team I was the captain, but others had already played the same role in the clubs or the national team. We’d see trouble and work it out between us. Even when we were fighting.”

Zanetti didn’t think the fight between the squad during the Barcelona v Inter game was a big deal.

“Why are you asking me about that fight and not another one? In that season, we fought with each other a thousand times, there were very strong personalities. Maybe it was just a way of relieving the tension.”

He moved on to talking about other important Champions League games.

“In the Champions League in Kiev we were out, at halftime Mourinho told us, ‘Guys, either we stay like this and go out or we risk it.’ We took a risk and we won. But if I’m going to point to a game, I’m going to point to Chelsea in London. The previous Saturday we had lost in Catania, there was a lot of controversy.”

The Argentine touched on how that game was the perfect response.

“Ok, can there be a better answer than the one the team gave in London? No. The game was unique.”

Zanetti highlighted how the change to a 4-2-3-1 formation helped the squad that season.

“It was a major breakthrough, for sure. But with the players who were there, I can say today we would have won anyway, with any formation.”

The Inter vice president spoke about the Coppa Italia that season.

“The semi-final in Florence. Four days earlier we had played on the same pitch, a draw in the league, Roma had overtaken us at the top of the table. We won, goals from Eto’o, we went to the final, it was yet another signal.”

He discussed the league campaign and the most important game.

“As a symbol I’d say Inter v Juve. In theory we could have lost our heads, but we didn’t do that at all.”

Zanetti moved onto talking about how Jose Mourinho made the difference with the team’s mental strength.

“That’s exactly what he put in our heads. He had a magical power, unlike any other coach, in front of him, you were convinced that you could fight the world. And that you would do it for him. José gets inside you, he never lets go.

“He did it with everyone, before every single game, whether it was Milito or Mariga, it was the same. In training you could breathe a particular air, everyone wanted to be available, everyone was at 100%. Afraid of getting hurt and missing the season finale? Well, Samuel and I have played half of the Champions League, think what I would have missed if I had received a yellow in Barcelona.”

The Argentine touched on his visit to Moratti to discuss the trophy wins.

“I went as a captain, after talking to my teammates. I ended up in the president’s office almost as if it were ‘duty’, for us at that moment what mattered was the desire for glory. But then, you know, with Moratti there was no problem. And in fact, it always happened that we started talking about football.”

He commented on how the game plan in that game against Barcelona changed.

“The game plan disappeared after Motta’s red cars. It was pure resistance. At halftime Mourinho almost didn’t speak. He just said, Guys, it’s only them who is risking anything here.”

Zanetti revealed that he didn’t miss sleep the night before the Champions League final.

“I’ve never suffered on the eve of a match in my life. I’ve always rested great. But I haven’t forgotten that night, I was in the room with Cordoba, we are both devoted to Santa Rita, which is celebrated on May 22nd. We waited for midnight, looked at each other, lit a candle together and prayed. Good thing the hotel didn’t burn down.”

The Inter vice president discussed what Mourinho said before that game.

“Mourinho reminded us of the initial project. And he told us that we were one step away from making history. It was an exciting speech. He was so convincing, Mou, that we went into the game with crazy concentration. I can tell when I see the picture of me raising the Cup.”

He touched on how he was different in that game.

“That’s not me. That’s not Zanetti, that’s not my face, that face is beyond happiness. It was a life that passed me by, in a few moments I thought of everything, of myself as a child in Argentina. That night, just that night, I played 700 games with Inter. In a Champions League final, at the Bernabeu, in short, everything done, everything perfect.”

Zanetti commented on what he knew about Mourinho’s eventual department from the Nerazzurri.

“I had guessed something, as did many of my teammates. But there was modesty in the subject matter. In fact, fear more than modesty. Fear that this thing might hurt us, deprive us of the dream we were fighting for. I remember after the game, on the field, me and Mou hugged hard. And we just said the same word to each other, thank you.”

He moved onto talking about the San Siro, full of happy fans.

“I was live on Sky, they were interviewing me after the game. They showed me pictures of the Duomo, I thought all those people that were incredible, I felt like crying. We arrived at Malpensa airport, there were fans there too. At a certain point they said, oh guys, let’s go to San Siro, they’re waiting for you. I thought it was a joke, but it was impressive.”

Zanetti spoke about two things he has kept from that game.

“The shirt, I didn’t give it to anyone. And the captain’s band, with the 700 games written on it.”

The vice president though it would have been too difficult to change the team too much that summer.

“It was too difficult to change that team at that time. And anyway, the following season, despite a change of coach, we came second in the league and won the Coppa Italia. That Inter was still hungry. Only later was the decline physiological.”

Finally, Zanetti spoke about how it feels to remember that season ten years later.

“Then it was the explosion. Today it’s pure happiness. Every now and then I stop and start thinking, I realize with the passing of time the greatness of our work. These days I’ve watched a thousand times the games of that season with my children… Wow, what have we done!”

Inter Offer Chelsea Target Dries Mertens A 2 Year Contract & Chance To Play In Chinese Super League Afterwards

A report from Italian broadcaster SportMediaset aired earlier today has suggested that Napoli’s Dries Mertens is getting closer and closer to joining Inter.

The report details how the 33-year-old Belgian striker, whose contract expires with Napoli at the end of this season, has not communicated anything to the Partenopei yet, but is seemingly thinking of joining the Nerazzurri.

Inter have offered him a two-year contract worth €5 million net per season plus an option for a third season and a possible move to China to finish his career. Nerazzurri owners Suning also own a team in the Chinese Super League, Jiangsu Suning.

Inter have also offered him a €3 million signing bonus, the report continues. The Nerazzurri may also look to sign Edinson Cavani at the request of coach Antonio Conte, who is trying to be prepared for the possible departure of Lautaro Martinez at the end of the season to Barcelona.

Inter still want €90 million plus Junior Firpo and Chilean international midfielder Arturo Vidal to allow Lautaro Martinez leave for Barcelona, the report concludes.
