Italian Media Claims Inter Could Offload Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij & Marcelo Brozovic This Summer

Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and Marcelo Brozovic, three players widely regarded as being untouchable at Inter, could all end up leaving Inter over the coming months according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Skriniar has interest in his services from Premier League clubs, namely Manchester United and Manchester City and Inter would rather let the Slovakian defender go than de Vrij, who has drawn some links to other clubs.

As for Brozovic, he also has interest from the Premier League with it understood that newly crowned Champions Liverpool are keen on adding him to their ranks.

The report goes on to add that Lautaro Martinez’s future with the club remains uncertain amid continued links with Spanish powerhouses Barcelona whilst Diego Godin may also end up leaving the club, just a year after arriving on a free transfer.

Inter want to get back to previous heights and win silverware and club management are aware that the team need ready-made players added to their ranks rather than lots of young players with potential.

Italian Media Claim Inter Midfielder Christian Eriksen Has 8 Games To Prove His Worth

Christian Eriksen has the remaining eight Serie A matches to show whether Inter can build the team around him or not according to a report in yesterday’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport.

Following a couple of impressive performances against Napoli in the Coppa Italia and Sampdoria in the first match back when the Serie A season resumed, Eriksen’s performance levels have dropped in recent matches and he once again looks like the player he was when he arrived at the club. Back then he had the alibi of not being in shape but cannot use the same alibi now.

The Danish national team player is Inter’s joint highest paid player alongside Romelu Lukaku with him earning €7.5 million plus add-ons and Eriksen has to prove that he is worthy of such a salary and his place in the side, especially ahead of next season where competition for places will be even stronger than it is now.

Italian Media Highlight Number Of Points Inter Have Dropped In Matches They’ve Scored First In

In yesterday’s print edition, Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have highlighted the number of points that Inter have squandered in matches where they took the lead this season.

The Nerazzurri club have dropped points in eight matches which they have scored the first goal in and have dropped a total of 18 points, five more than league leaders Juventus and double as much as second place Lazio.

Six of the eight games where Inter have dropped points having scored first in the match have come this year and two of them have come in Inter’s past four matches against Sassuolo and more recently Bologna.

The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to explain that it will be necessary for Inter to strengthen the squad in terms of experience and to grow the winning mentality, both of which could help limit the amount of times Inter drop points.

Preview – Hellas Verona vs Inter: Are The Stars Aligning For Yet Another Screw Up?

With both Juventus and Lazio losing their respective matches, a win against dark horse Verona could see the Nerazzurri back in contention, is this the perfect opportunity for another slip-up? Match today Thursday at 21:45 CET.

Inter have managed to squander many points since the restart, but nothing has been as shocking as losing a lead, and ultimately the match, against a ten-man visiting Bologna on Sunday. In his post match interview, Antonio Conte showed signs of real anger at the performance and the players. He will know that this midweek presents his side with a golden opportunity to make amends for the recent disappointments.

However, injuries and suspensions seem to conspire against the manager, who will, yet again, have to field a ramshackle midfield due to the seemingly unending midfield injury saga. Conte knows that Verona will want nothing out of the match except to frustrate the visitors with tough and tight defensive football.

Despite being a bit leaky since the restart, Ivan Juric has built a sturdy and tough team that does not concede many goals. With a defence built around the impressive Marash Kumbulla Hellas are the fourth ranked side in the table in terms of goals conceded.

That said, Verona possess plenty of strength and quality, especially in the midfield; veteran Miguel Veloso is the orchestrator and will probably have either the impressive Sofyan Amrabat or ex-Interista and Inter tormentor Federico Dimarco next to him.

Conte will know that plenty is at stake here, and that the key to victory is balance on the pitch; not only in his squad selection, but also in terms of physical output across the ninety minutes. Inter must be able to stretch the play out wide when attacking, but to address their vulnerability on the break, especially when faced with pacey and technical wide forwards.

Team News

With Milan Skriniar finally eligible for selection after serving his three match suspension, Conte now loses Alessandro Bastoni and Danilo D’Ambrosio to a single match suspension and will once again not play with his preferred backline. Expect Diego Godin to fill in for the injured youngster. The recovery room is still full of midfielders with Stefano Sensi, Nicolo Barella and Victor Moses all in treatment for various issues.

Probable Line-up (3-4-1-2): Handanovic (C); Godin, De Vrij, Skriniar; Candreva, Vecino, Brozovic, Young; Eriksen; Sanchez, Lukaku

Stats

Last Season: Not played, Verona in Serie B

Last 10 Head to Head: Inter hold a remarkably strong record against the Veronese, with eight wins in the last ten matches while not having lost a single encounter.

Keep an Eye on:

Marcelo Brozovic: Verona are a very tough defensive nut to crack, and so it can be expected that Inter’s two centre-forwards will be very closely attended to by the hosts’ backline. If Inter are to get a breakthrough in this match, one might expect to have some direct Brozovic involvement, either in the form of an assist or a shot from outside the box.

Officials

Referee: Massimiliano Irrati.

Assistants: Passeri and Lo Cicero.

Fourth Official: Ros.

VAR: Orsato and Cecconi.

Prediction & Concluding Remarks

Prediction & scorers: Verona 0 – 1 Inter with a Brozovic late winner.

Concluding remarks: Many Inter supporters will have little faith going into this match seeing how results have worked in the Nerazzurri’s favour over the entire matchday.

However, expect to see a fighting Inter on the pitch, fired up by Conte and Marotta’s words, ready to bring home the three points in a very ugly and hard fought match.

Man Utd Coach Solskjaer On Sending Lukaku & Sanchez To Inter: “I’d Make The Same Decision Again”

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he has no regrets over agreeing to let Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez depart the club this past Summer.

Lukaku left the Premier League outfit in a permanent move to Inter in a €65 million transfer deal whilst Sanchez joined Inter on a season long loan, which has since been extended until the end of the Serie A season at the start of next month, which is finishing later due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The decisions we made last summer and in January, bringing players in and allowing players to move on, in my mind they were always for the good of the club and the team both in giving youngsters a chance and trust to the other ones, accepting that some players have been great servants to the club,” he explained in his pre-match press conference

“I would still make the same decision if I can go back six or 12 months.”

Since joining Inter, Lukaku has played very well and is on the brink of matching his personal record for goals scored in a season. With at least nine games left to play, the Belgian is almost certain to set a new record for himself.

Sanchez has meanwhile scored two goals and provided six assists for his teammates in 21 outings for the club.
