Italian Sports Minister Spadafora: “Group Training For Serie A Clubs Can Start On May 18th”

Serie A clubs will be able to resume training as a group starting from this coming Monday having now been given the green light by Italian government minister for sport and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora.

Speaking in the Italian government chamber of deputies earlier on today Spadafora said: “I received a letter from the president of the FIGC Gabriele Gravina, in which he announced that the FIGC has accepted all the observations of the Technical Scientific Committee, readjusting the protocol which means, without other difficulties, team training can resume from May 18.”

The 2019/20 Serie A season has been on hold for over two months now due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, the worst of which has now passed in Italy, and a provisional date for the season to resume has been set with that date being June 13.

Teams will play every three or four days to finish the remainder of the campaign and if all is to go to plan it will mean that the season will finish on Sunday August 2.

It does however remain to be seen what will happen with next season given new seasons tend to begin in the last week of August.

Inter Striker Lukaku Could Set New Record For Most Goals Scored In Debut Serie A Season In The Last Decade

Romelu Lukaku could set a new goal scoring record if the 2019/20 Serie A season is to resume according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The newly turned 27-year-old Inter striker could set a new record for most goals scored in his first campaign in Serie A in the past decade.

Lukaku is currently sitting on 17 goals after 25 games played and is six goals shy of surpassing former Genoa and AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piątek, who netted a total of 22 goals in his first campaign in Serie A and currently holds the record.

Inter have 13 games left to play of this season and provided Lukaku stays injury free he should be able to at least match Piątek’s exploits given his scoring rate this term.

Lukaku joined Inter this past Summer in a club record €65 million deal from Premier League outfit Manchester United. All in all he has made 35 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 23 goals and tallied five assists for his teammates.

Italian Sports Minister Spadafora: “The Serie A Will Only Resume If It Is Safe For Everyone Involved”

Italian government minister for sport and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora has reiterated that he is hopeful that the football season will be able to resume but insisted it will only be able to resume in complete safety.

The season has been on hold for over two months now as a result of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, the worst of which seems to have passed in Italy.

Athletes, including footballers, were allowed to return to training on a voluntary optional basis starting May 4 and the aim is for teams to be allowed to train together starting from this coming Monday.

“We’re hopeful of the season resuming, but only in complete safety after the appropriate measures have been taken and in keeping with the protocol, for everyone” Spadafora remarked whilst in the Italian senate earlier on today.

“The government has always kept a precise and coherent line, putting the health of its people first.

“It wasn’t at all possible to resume any sooner due to instrumental pressures. We know the need to end the season arises not only from sporting reasons but also for legitimate economic reasons.

“Until now, the general picture of the virus’ spread didn’t allow us to take leaps forward. To date, those who have decided on a specific date are those who have chosen to stop like France.

“Even Germany, which will also resume playing, once postponed its recovery date to keep in line with the evolution of the pandemic and spread of the virus through teams.”

Spadafora then went on to share his belief that the Italian football federation (FIGC) can make changes to the protocol to allow for team training to resume and hit out at the excessive coverage football has received in the media during this troubling time.

“I think the FIGC can readjust its protocol ahead of the resumption of team training.

“I’m aware of the passion around football and the importance of the sector, but I found the escalation of the debate around football to be excessive, at a time when Italians are concerned about health and their jobs.”

He then went on to explain why he proposed teams go into quarantine if a player tests positive and why such action is not required in shops.

“Someone asked why a supermarket wouldn’t close if one of its checkout staff tested positive, while in the case of a team it’s prescribed that they should go into quarantine.

“The answer’s obvious. In a supermarket it‘s possible for people to keep their distance and use masks, whereas football is, by nature, a contact sport.”

Spadafora, who has held his current position since 2018, then went on to state that facilities will be open by May 25 at the latest and spoke on the funding.

“We’ll reopen sports facilities by May 25 at the latest, but we’d rather reopen them earlier, providing we get an answer from the scientific committee.

“We’ve reached a total of around €1 billion for sports funding through ordinary resources already available to the ministry and those that are extraordinary.”

Juventus Prepared To Sacrifice 3 Players To Sign Inter Target Paul Pogba From Man Utd

Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici is prepared to sacrifice three players in order to bring Paul Pogba back to the club from Manchester United according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Paratici is willing to offer Douglas Costa, Federico Bernardeschi and Adrien Rabiot to Manchester United as part of a deal to bring the Frenchman back to the club he departed in the Summer of 2016.

Juventus feel they have never been able to replace the void left by Pogba when he departed the club and therefore wish to fill the void with him.

The reigning Italian champions are however not alone in courting the 27-year-old with the report stating that Inter are also interested in him but the report goes on to add that Inter have no immediate plan in place to sign the 2018 World Cup winning midfielder.

This season Pogba has been limited to just eight appearances due to injury, in which he has tallied two assists.

Inter Owned Joao Mario’s Future At Lokomotiv Moscow Looking More & More Uncertain

Joao Mario is facing an uncertain future with Lokomotiv Moscow according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

The Portuguese national team midfielder joined the Russian Premier League outfit this past Summer on a season long loan from Inter with the Russian capital city side obtaining an option to buy set at €18 million as part of the deal.

Prior to the global Coronavirus pandemic, Lokomotiv Moscow were convinced about buying him outright but now it is unclear what their intentions are.

The 27-year-old joined Inter back in the Summer of 2016 from Sporting CP as one of then new owners Suning’s first purchases.

Joao Mario however failed to live up to expectations at the club and has also spent time out on loan at Premier League side West Ham United.

This season the EURO 2016 winner has made 15 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored one goal and provided four assists for his teammates.

Inter’s contingent of players from South America is set to decrease in the coming months according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Juventus Considering Offering Douglas Costa & Alex Sandro To PSG For Mauro Icardi After French Champions Sign Him From Inter

Juventus are in the process of evaluating players they could offer to Paris Saint-Germain in exchange for Mauro Icardi if they are to sign him permanently from Inter according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

Juventus have a long standing interest in the 27-year-old Argentine, who is currently out on loan at the newly crowned French champions, who could turn his stay with the club into a permanent one for a sum of €70 million.

The Bianconeri club could well offer Douglas Costa and Alex Sandro to Paris Saint Germain in exchange for Icardi, a signing which would allow them to significantly bolster their attacking firepower.

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo is said to like both Douglas Costa and Alex Sandro and it now not only remains to be seen whether Paris Saint Germain will keep a hold of Icardi but if they will then do a swap deal with Juventus.

Whilst in the French capital city, Icardi has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 20 goals and tallied four assists for his teammates.

Italian Media Claims Inter List Liverpool Target Timo Werner As Preferred Replacement For Barcelona Target Lautaro Martinez

RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner is Inter’s first choice option to replace Lautaro Martinez, should he depart the club in the coming months according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

Lautaro has been heavily linked with a Summer transfer window switch to Spanish giants Barcelona and should he go Inter will not be found unprepared.

The Nerazzurri will swoop in for Werner but face competition from several other clubs although that competition has decreased recently with Werner admitting he wants to leave the Bundesliga which has therefore ruled Bayern Munich out from signing him.

Juventus, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have all however also been linked with making a move for the 24-year-old German national team forward, who has a €60 million release clause in his current contract.

This season Werner has made 36 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists for his teammates.
