Lombardy Governor Fontana: “Season Restarting Is Complicated Now, Maybe In August Would Be Better”

Attilio Fontana, the governor of the Lombardy Region, discussed the restart of the Serie A season and how complex the situation is in an interview with Italian broadcaster Telenova yesterday evening.

“I’m a big football fan, but at this moment it seems to me extremely complicated that the season starts again. They have just started training again and have already found players infected. I think it would also be worth it for football to take a break and then start again later, maybe in August, to finish the season. When the conditions are right.”

Fontana wasn’t worried about the work of Italian minister of sport Vincenzo Spadafora and possible intervention of the Italian government.
“I am not the Minister of Sport. Vincenzo Spadafora is someone I respect, and I have an excellent relationship with him. I think he has made all the assessments of the case and if he has not yet made a decision it is because there are some elements that still need to be evaluated more carefully.”

Serie A clubs returned to their training centres earlier this week, after the government indicated that it was acceptable for the players to partake in individual training sessions. The Nerazzurri returned on Friday, with all the squad and necessary staff testing negative for Coronavirus. Coach Antonio Conte has still not undertaken a test and so has remained safely distant from the players and staff.

Some have suggested that squad training may restart on the 18th of May, allowing for a possible season restart in early June. It is still unclear what will be decided, but regardless teams are preparing.

Antonio Cassano: “I’m Certain That Mauro Icardi Won’t Play For Inter Again”

Former Inter and Roma striker Antonio Cassano discussed the situation regarding Argentine striker Mauro Icardi and his possible return to Italy in an interview on Instagram Live earlier today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“From what I know for sure, Icardi won’t be able to stay at Inter. He’s out now, he won’t wear the Inter shirt even if he comes back from Paris. In my opinion, Inter will earn €70 million from the sale of Icardi. Clubs can still pay this amount for a player like him after the coronavirus pandemic, he’s worth it but I still don’t know who can buy him. Certainly, he won’t play for Inter again.”

The Nerazzurri sent Icardi out on loan to French side Paris Saint Germain last summer, attaching a €70 million buy option to the player. Whilst he has impressed for the Parisians, his high price tag and the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic may force PSG to look elsewhere, rather than activating the buy option on the player.

Several clubs are interested in Icardi, including Italian rivals Juventus and Napoli. No concrete offers have arrived yet but Inter are confident that they can find a new home for their former talisman in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Icardi has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1958 minutes. In that time, he has scored 20 goals and provided four assists.

No alternative ideas have been suggested as the clubs have all been focused on returning to the pitch, but next week TV rights will be the main focus.

Italian Minister of Sport Spadafora: “Tonight Or Tomorrow CTS Will Discuss Return To Squad Training”

Italian Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora discussed the resumption of squad training in a post on his Facebook page earlier today.

Italian clubs returned to their training centres earlier this week, with players undertaking Coronavirus tests before undergoing staggered individual training sessions, assuming they test negative for the contagion. No Inter player or staff member has tested positive for the virus. The clubs and players are now waiting for news as to when they can restart squad training, a precursor to a season restart.

Spadafora discussed his work and attempts to get a concrete date for a restart to squad training in a post on Facebook, saying: “We are grappling with many things. We are ready to submit to the Technical Scientific Committee the guidelines for the resumption of team sports training. In the next few hours, between tonight or maybe tomorrow, will come the opinion of the CTS on the protocol of the FIGC for the resumption of squad training in the world of football.”

Inter Coach Antonio Conte Is Present But Distant At Individual Training Sessions Today

Inter coach Antonio Conte attended the players’ individual training sessions today, whilst remaining at a safe distance, according to a report from Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it earlier today.

The report details how the Lecce born coach has not taken a Coronavirus test yet, due to the limited number available to the Nerazzurri. Instead, the squad, as well as staff who will be in direct contact with the players like physiotherapists and masseurs, have all tested negative as individual training sessions resume.

Conte has managed to still attend the sessions, the report continues, although he has remained a safe distance away, in order to ensure the players and staffs safety. The players underwent staggered training sessions across four pitches in Appiano Gentile, with Conte remaining present but distant.

Both the staff and the squad are excited to return to normal squad training, raring to restart the season and looking to challenge for the league title still. All Serie A clubs are hoping for a restart of the league in early June.

Napoli Preparing Offer For Inter Owned Mauro Icardi As PSG Consider Options

Inter owned striker Mauro Icardi may return to Italy in the summer, with Napoli preparing an offer for the player, according to a report from Italian news outlet FcInterNews earlier today.

The report details how Paris Saint Germain, who signed Icardi on loan last summer in a deal that had a €70 million buy option attached, are unsure whether to sign the player following on from Inter’s decision to not allow any players to be included in the deal. The Nerazzurri want the money, not any players, and so Icardi may still return to Italy in the summer.

Juventus are one of the Italian clubs interested in signing the Argentine striker, the report continues, but first must resolve the Gonzalo Higuain issue and understand how much they can afford to spend. AC Milan, whilst interested, cannot afford the costs of the operation.

Napoli, however, are seriously interested in signing the 27-year-old, the report continues. The Partenopei cannot pay the €65 million requested by the Nerazzurri, but have an idea. They are preparing to offer Inter Arkadiusz Milik and money in exchange for Icardi, although they would be happy to include Allan instead, as president Aurelio De Laurentiis is incredibly keen to bring Icardi to Napoli.

Spanish Media Claim Real Madrid Pull Out Of Race To Sign Inter & Juventus Linked Man Utd Midfielder Paul Pogba

Inter are one of the many clubs interested in signing Manchester United’s Paul Pogba as Spanish giants Real Madrid pull out of the race to sign the world champion, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Spanish newspaper AS.

The report details how the Spanish club have pulled out of the race to sign the 27-year-old French midfielder due to his incredibly high wages. Pogba earns €17 million net per season, a figure far too high for club president Florentino Perez, who instead has turned his attention on 17-year-old Rennes talent Eduardo Camavinga.

Juventus and Inter are both keen to sign Pogba, the report continues, as both clubs look to strengthen their midfield and assert dominance on the pitch next season. The Nerazzurri would be able to fund the deal for the Frenchman after selling both Argentine strikers Lautaro Martinez and Mauro Icardi. Pogba has only made eight appearances this season for the Red Devils after suffering from a series of ankle injuries.

Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez’s Agent: “Everything I’ve Read In The Newspapers Isn’t True”

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez’s agent, Beto Yaque, discussed the market rumours surrounding the player and his future in an interview with Italian media outlet Cittaceleste earlier today.

“Of everything that the newspapers are writing and that I read earlier, there is really nothing true. This is the only truth.”

The future of the 22-year-old Argentine striker is unclear, with many clubs interested in acquiring the Nerazzurri star. The player has a €111 million release clause, but so far no club has approached Inter with a serious interest in activating it.

Barcelona are the club most keen on signing Lautaro, although they cannot reach the requested price. Instead, the Blaugrana are hoping that Inter will an accept an offer of €60 million in cash plus two players in exchange. The Catalan side believe that Lautaro would be the perfect replacement for the aging Luis Suarez, who is currently recovering from a serious injury.

Other clubs have also expressed an interest in Lautaro, including Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid, but many think that either the player will join Barcelona or will remain with Inter.
