The Serie A clubs are united wanting this season to be completed, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how both Juventus and Inter voted to restart and complete the season, with Andrea Agnelli and Beppe Marotta clarifying their positions on Friday.

The clubs are in agreement to restart squad training from the 18th May and to resume the season in early June. Some leagues around Europe, like France’s Ligue 1 and the Dutch Eredivisie have already called off their seasons after their governments decided to ban sporting events for the summer.

Some feared that the Italian government may look to make a similar decision, the report continues, but now it seems more likely that games will be completed behind closed doors, as the loss of TV revenue and sponsorships may be too damaging to Italian football as a whole.

Giuseppe Pecoraro, the head of the FIGC prosecutor’s office from August 2016 to December 2019, discussed the infamous Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus in April of 2018, where the referee Daniele Orsato was heavily criticised for his decisions, in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Naples based newspaper Il Mattino.

“It was Orsato’s management of Inter-Juventus that showed me the tensions with the refereeing world, and I had complaints signed, from associations, fans and organisations about his work and to avoid making mistakes, I asked my deputies whether or not I should open proceedings.”

Pecoraro then revealed a controversial fact, that there was no audio recording between Orsato and the VAR room about giving Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic a second yellow card.

“I don’t think we would have found evidence of bad faith and I asked the Italian Referee’s Association AIA first and then the Lega Calcio, only to understand better what was going on, for the audio-video dialogue between VAR room and the referee of that match.

“They only gave us the audio to us at the beginning of the following season. We opened the file and the only episode in which there is no audio recorded was the only one we cared about, the one between Orsato and VAR that had led to Orsato’s decision not to send off Pjanic. When I asked why they told me it just wasn’t there and that’s it.”

The infamous Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus took place in April 2018, a vital game in the Bianconeri’s fight for the league title. The win put the Turin based club four points ahead of second place Napoli, who would go on to lose at Fiorentina the next day.

Many suggested that Orsato’s decisions favored Juventus, starting with the harsh red card given to Matias Vecino, followed by the failure to send off Pjanic for an obviously bookable offence.

The Inter squad are ready to return to training, thanks to the hard work to keep them fit by coach Antonio Conte and his staff during the lockdown period, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the players can immediately look to return to training when given approval, after Conte and his staff’s have worked to ensure their fitness and physical condition whilst at home during the lockdown.

The Nerazzurri also ensured that the squad followed a strict diet, in order to ensure that they will be able to return to full match fitness as soon as possible.

A return to training seems likely to arrive soon, the report continues, and only one Inter player currently isn’t ready for the restart.

That player is 31-year-old Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, who will finish his mandatory quarantine period at the beginning of next week. The player returned from Chile on the 21st April. Inter are now just waiting for official approval before beginning the restart.

Inter are still interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic but the Nerazzurri would prefer to sign his teammate Arturo Vidal, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The report details how Premier League side Tottenham are incredibly keen to sign the Croatian midfielder, who seems destined to leave the Blaugrana this summer. The Nerazzurri have long been interested in the 2018 World Cup finalist, but despite previous attempts to sign the player, are now looking elsewhere.

The Milanese club, who are in talks with Barcelona already regarding Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez, would prefer to sign Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal, the report continues. The reason is because coach Antonio Conte knows Vidal well from their time together at Juventus and believes that the Chilean would be a better fit for the Nerazzurri.

Vidal has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1414 minutes. In that time, he has scored six goals and provided three assists.

Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte could decide to suspend Serie A next week, according to a report from today’s print edition of the Rome based newspaper La Repubblica.

The report details how several regions in Italy have allowed clubs to reopen their sports centers and allow players to attend individual training sessions, following all the required safety protocols. These regions are Lazio, Campania, Emilia-Romagna and Sardinia.

However, with thousands dead due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Italian government could decide that restarting the league poses too many risks.

Two top European leagues have already decided to call off the season, the report continues, with both the French Ligue 1 and the Dutch Eredivisie deciding to end early.

Serie A clubs are hoping to restart the season and follow the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga, who both are set to finish the remaining games. Conte’s announcement could come on Wednesday, meaning next week is a decisive one in regard to this season.

Inter youngster Lorenzo Pirola has agreed to sign a new five-year contract, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri’s management believe that the 18-year-old Italian is the future of the club’s defense, impressing with the Primavera squad this season.

Inter coach Antonio Conte has promised to give Pirola more time with the first time from May onwards, in order to help convince the player to sign the contract, that will expire in 2025.

Several clubs have already asked about Pirola, the report continues, but the 18-year-old decided to stay with Inter and join their project. The Italian teenager has made 20 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1800 minutes.

In that time, he has provided one assist and helped the side keep 10 clean sheets. He is one of the most exciting young players in Inter’s youth set up.

Inter will offer Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez a new contract only after he decides to stay at the club, amidst interest from Barcelona, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the Blaugrana are continuing to press for Lautaro, but can’t reach his €111 million release clause. The club are also prepared to give the 22-year-old a five-year contract worth €10 million net per season, a high offer to try and tempt the player to join the club.

Inter would prefer to keep Lautaro but are willing to sell him for €90 million in cash plus one or two players in exchange.

If Lautaro decides to stay in Milan, then Inter will offer him a new contract, the report continues. The Nerazzurri would be happy to increase his wages, which will be almost €3 million for next season, and whilst it’s impossible for them to match Barcelona’s offer, it will still be an important offer.

The report details how the Giallorossi were forced to sell Zaniolo to Roma a few summers ago due to a need to balance the books and ensure financial stability.
