Italian Sport Minister Spadafora To Recommend Allowing Serie A Teams To Start Training May 4th

Italian minister for sport Vincenzo Spadafora wrote a letter to the Scientific Technical Committee of the Civil Protection yesterday, asking them to consider allowing football teams to return to training, according to a report from Italian news outlet ANSA.

The report details how Spadafora has asked the CTS to re-evaluate the possibility of allowing athletes in team sports to return to training tomorrow, in the same way that athletes who take part in individual sports will be doing. A response from the CTS is expected shortly.

Spadafora is pushing for a return to training for football clubs because of the pressure on him and the government by clubs, broadcasters and all interested parties.

The FIGC are hoping that the league will be completed normally by July, although it is expected that games will be played behind closed doors. Some medical protocols have been drawn up to allow for a return to individual training, but there is still more work to be done.

Video – Inter’s Roberto Gagliardini & Danilo D’Ambrosio Continue To Train Together

Inter full back Danilo D’Ambrosio showed himself training in a post on his Instagram page yesterday.

The 31-year-old Italian, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2021, has often been deployed by coach Antonio Conte this season, being able to play in multiple roles including as a central defender or as a wing back. Since Christmas, however, he has struggled to earn consistent minutes, only playing seven minutes in Serie A in 2020.

D’Ambrosio posted a video of himself exercising with teammate Roberto Gagliardini alongside the caption: “Mood! Better to do it in a car.”

Ex-Inter Defender Francesco Colonnese: “Antoine Griezmann Might Not Suit Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2”

Former Inter defender Francesco Colonnese discussed Inter forward Lautaro Martinez in an interview with Italian media outlet FcInter1908 earlier today.

“First of all, in my opinion he’s the player who has improved more than the entire squad this season compared to last year. Under Spalletti’s management he was almost a problem, while this year he became the most important player in Conte’s 3-5-2. The typical second striker that allows you to play that way. He’s fast, he’s mean, he scores goals, he helps the team, he holds the ball up and he also acts as a link between departments. Strong and very young. In my opinion, Inter must try at all costs to keep him. I don’t see many strong young players with those characteristics out there.”

Colonnese then discussed how Inter need to keep Lautaro if they are looking to build a strong squad that can fight for both the league title and the Champions League.

“And you have to consider that Lukaku needs a forward like Lautaro alongside him. In my day there were many with those characteristics, now there aren’t many. If Inter wants to build a great team, they have to keep Martinez. It’s clear there’s an important clause, and maybe in the face of certain offers it might be difficult to keep him. But I say Inter would do well to keep him.”

He spoke about the possibility of exchanging Lautaro for French forward Antoine Griezmann, who has struggled to settle in Barcelona since his arrival last summer.

“I know Griezmann very well, since I often follow my friend Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. In that 4-4-2, he was the ideal player. He could be a solution. Griezmann made a difference in Spain, but Italy is something else. I like him, but he’s not exactly a second striker like Conte wants. He played a little wide in Atletico, almost on the wings. He was good at creating space and scoring goals. I don’t know if he would suit the 3-5-2 Conte likes.”

Finally, Colonnese spoke about Inter coach Antonio Conte and whether he is a good fit for the Nerazzurri.

“I never would have imagined it, he knows my Inter well. It’s absurd, but life is good for that. He took to the job brilliantly. He’s a professional and he’s also made it clear he’s supporting the team he coaches. He’s proving he deserves Inter. We’re very happy that he’s understood how beautiful the Nerazzurri environment is, because some from the outside doesn’t realize it. The fact that he’s so overwhelmed by Inter says a lot about the fans’ love for this team. I also remember during my matches the stadium was always full.”

The 29-year-old Griezmann, who is contracted to the Blaugrana until 2024, has struggled to shine in Catalonia with Barcelona this season. The player has made 37 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 2951 minutes. In that time, he has scored 14 goals and provided four assists.

Barcelona are incredibly keen to sign Lautaro in the upcoming summer transfer window, as they believe that he would be the perfect replacement for the aging Luis Suarez, who is currently sidelined with a serious injury.

Italian Media Reports Barcelona Target Lautaro Martinez Has Not Declined A Contract Offer From Inter

A report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews has contradicted the reports from Spain that Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has already agreed to join Barcelona.

The report details how the Argentine striker hasn’t agreed to join the Blaugrana and hasn’t refused a contract offer from Inter. On the contrary, Lautaro is happy in Milan and hasn’t currently made a decision yet about his future, wanting to wait until the end of the ongoing Coronavirus emergency. He would also be happy to sign a contract renewal with the Nerazzurri but would like a hefty wage increase.

The late time the player’s agents were in Milan was in December, the report continues, in a simple courtesy visit to see their client. They had planned to return to Milan a few months later to meet Inter to negotiate a new agreement, but the Coronavirus emergency put a total stop to any talks. Both Lautaro and his agents are confused and surprised about the reports from Spain.

Robert Acquafresca: “Mourinho & Ausilio Wanted Me To Stay At Inter But Branca Forced Me To Go To Genoa”

Former Inter striker Robert Acquafresca discussed his career and move away from the Nerazzurri in an interview with Italian journalist Nicolò Schira on Instagram Live earlier today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“After Toro’s failure, Milan, Juve and Inter, Samp and Palermo wanted me. I chose the Nerazzurri because they had the most important project for me. They took me and put me into co-ownership, Chievo and Treviso were in the running, I chose Treviso.”

He spoke about how he could have been in the Treble winning squad.

“That summer I was owned by the Nerazzurri, but I didn’t want to be treated like a postal package anymore. José Mourinho wanted me back in Milan and the team had expressed this intention, I was already looking for a house in the San Siro area. Piero Ausilio wanted me in the four forwards, I could have won the Treble.”

The 32-year-old Italian then touched on how he was forced to sign for Genoa in the summer of 2009, despite his wishes.

“At first, I was to go on loan to Genoa, but then Marco Branca wanted to sell me. He made me lose out and be sold to Genoa, while I wanted to stay in Cagliari at that point. Branca threatened to send me out of the squad if I didn’t accept Genoa… I could’ve been an asshole with Inter and put my foot down to stay. I turned 21 and I’d come from 25 goals in Serie A in two years.”

Acquafresca confirmed that the reason he left Inter was because of Marco Branca, not other executives at the club.

“They’d never put me out of the squad like they threatened. I chose to not to stay in heaven in spite of the saints. Mourinho made the joke that I had scored for him on the first leg and on the return, Ausilio wanted me and Moratti had good words to say about me. So, it was Branca who didn’t want me, I’ve thought about it many times, but it’s water under the bridge.”

The former Inter forward then spoke about a conversation that he had with Jose Mourinho.

“We met again at the Bernabeu. At the end of the first half we started chatting, it was great, we exchanged numbers. He really is number one from a human point of view and for his charisma.

“He makes you feel number one, he gives importance and respect to everyone equally. He treats you as if you were a friend, for him the person comes before the player.

“Whether your name is Ronaldo or Acquafresca, that’s his strength. It’s no coincidence that his players would give their lives for him.”

Finally, Acquafresca spoke about current Inter coach Antonio Conte and his qualities as a leader.

“The coach is really an incredible leader, then there was Ventrone. Their training is really tough. There were big problems in Bergamo that year and things didn’t go well for both of them, but you could already see what he was made of.”

Acquafresca has been a free agent since last summer, after his contract expired with Swiss side Sion, where he only made seven league appearances in two seasons. The 32-year-old shone most in Sardinia with Cagliari, where he spent two spells in loan. For the Rossoblu, Acquafresca scored 35 goals and provided five assists in 109 appearances.
