Ex-Sampdoria Goalkeeper Viviano: “I’m Proud Inter Contacted Me But Have No Regrets Not Joining Them In January”

Emiliano Viviano has admitted that he has no regrets over not joining Inter earlier on this year in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

The veteran shot-stopper was brought in by Inter on a trial basis back in February when number one goalkeeper and club captain Samir Handanovic sustained a hairline fracture to the small finger in his left hand.

Viviano, who had left Portuguese giants Sporting a few months prior, underwent a medical with Inter and spent around a week training with Antonio Conte’s side but he was not tabled a contract offer by.

“Ausilio phoned me and it was a source of pride for me that Inter had thought about me. Me joining depended on Handanovic’s recovery time and I knew all of this so I have no regrets,” he explained.

This was not the first time that Viviano had been at Inter either as he had been with the club back in 2011 and he praised the club for how they dealt with him when he picked up an injury at the time.

“That summer, if there hadn’t been that mistake, I would have stayed at Bologna, where I had spent two beautiful years and where I was feeling very well. I went to an Inter that was stratospheric and with great humility I asked to be sold.

“I immediately got injured in training, but Inter were splendid with me and did everything to make me stay, they even renewed my contract.”

He then went on to reveal that he had actually recommended Milan Skriniar to Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini whilst he was with Skriniar at Sampdoria.

“I had recommended him to Chiellini and after Skriniar had spent a year at Inter Chiellini told me that I was right about him. Skriniar is very strong.”

In conclusion he was asked whether he prefers Ronaldo or Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Il Fenomeno Ronaldo all the way, with all due respect to Cristiano, who is a great professional. I fell in love with Ronaldo and the first time I saw him I went crazy.”

Lega Serie A Need To Solve 10 Issues Before Serie A Season Can Resume

Lega Serie A have drawn up a list of 10 points which must be solved before the season can resume according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Serie A, like all other football in Italy, has been on hold for over a month now due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic but Lega Serie A and all 20 Serie A clubs have not lost hope regarding a resumption of the campaign with all voting unanimously in favour of resuming play and finishing the season, if allowed by the Italian government.

The first point relates to the medical protocol which will have to be followed when football resumes, at least initially anyway. A copy of the latest version has been sent to the relevant ministers and Lega Serie A know that they must involve the clubs in any changes and not exclude them from the debate.

There is also the issue of expiring contracts/loans that needs sorted out. World football’s governing body FIFA have said contracts will be extended until the end of the season whenever that may be but clubs are still seeking assurances over things.

Perhaps the biggest point needing answered is what will happen in the event that there is another break-out of the virus or if even a single player is to test positive upon the resumption of the season.

Moreover, Lega Serie A need to provide an answer to clubs seeking clarification over how safety can be ensured during travel to and from matches in other cities.

Lega Serie A must also provide an answer in the event that the lockdown is extended and what will happen if some areas remain locked down but others are opened up.

They also have to work out what to do when it comes to national licences and clubs having to submit financial statements, something clubs are understood to be keen to see delayed.

Lega Serie A also have to deal with the issue of clubs reaching agreements with their players over salary cuts and also must establish anti-crisis measures.

Finally, there is the issue of the transfer market needing solved. It remains to be seen if the window will follow the traditional time line or if it will be modified given the circumstances.

Italian Journalist Fabrizio Biasin: “Juventus Have Tried To Sign Inter Owned Striker Icardi Several Times In The Past”

Italian football pundit Fabrizio Biasin has confirmed that Juventus have tried on numerous occasions in the past to sign Mauro Icardi from Inter.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Bianconeri club could once again go in for the 27-year-old Argentine striker, who is currently out on loan at reigning French champions Paris Saint Germain.

PSG have an option to sign Icardi on a permanent basis from Inter for a sum of €70 million and reports have stated that Juventus will pursue a move for the former Barcelona academy player regardless of what PSG do with him.

The reports have suggested that Juventus could look to include a player or players plus cash in a deal for Icardi but it remains to be seen whether they will be dealing with arch rivals Inter or PSG.

Whilst in the French capital Icardi has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 20 goals and provided four assists.

“Icardi at Juve? Juve have tried to sign him several times in the past but they have always been told no as Icardi always wanted to continue at Inter,” Biasin explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Sportiva earlier on today.

Inter Defender Candreva: “Football Is Now In The Background, Everyone’s Health Matters Most”

Inter and Italian national team defender Antonio Candreva has insisted that health is the most important thing at the moment, not football, as speculation continues on when the 2019/20 season could possible resume.

The Serie A season has been on hold for little over a month now due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic but the league and clubs still remain hopeful of it resuming and in the past few days they have voted unanimously in favour or resuming it and finishing it if the Italian government allows.

“It is a delicate moment. We did not expect this pandemic. Football is now in the background, everyone’s health matters most. It is important that everything is resolved in the shortest possible time,” he explained in an Instagram Live chat with Italian singer Fabio Rovazzi earlier on this evening.

Candreva was then asked about the possibility of football returning and players having to follow the social distancing rules in place.

“Football without touching each other? I could not even imagine that. Football is a contact sport where there is contact between one another and there are tackles. It is impossible to think of football without contact with the opposition or fellow players in training.”

This season Candreva, who is under contract with the club until the end of next season, has made 26 appearances across all competitions to date. In just over 1800 minutes, he has scored four goals and tallied six assists.

Inter Midfielder Eriksen Wants To Prove His Worth When Serie A Returns

Christian Eriksen will attempt to make up lost ground and prove his worth to Inter when football returns according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The Danish national team midfielder joined the club in a circa €20 million deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur back in January but his acclimatisation to Italian football was abruptly interrupted due to the outbreak of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

In the games he managed to play upon joining before football was brought to a halt, the 28-year-old did not exactly live up to expectations and he has only shown a few flashes of what everyone knows he is capable of.

The report from the Rome based newspaper goes on to state that Inter manager Antonio Conte is currently studying potential changes he could make to the team and Eriksen could well become decisive for Inter.

Since joining Inter, Eriksen has made eight appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored one goal and provided a single assist.

Inter Attacker Alexis Sanchez Could Miss First 2 Days Of Training If It Resumes On May 4

Inter attacker Alexis Sanchez will be available to Inter from May 6 if training is to resume on May 4 according to a report from the online edition of Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Sanchez has recently returned from a club authorised return to his native Chile for personal reasons and due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic he has had to enter into an obligatory period of self isolation and cannot leave his home until May 6.

Sanchez is one of eight players who Inter allowed to leave the country in recent weeks and the other seven players (Romelu Lukaku, Diego Godin, Christian Eriksen, Victor Moses, Ashley Young, Marcelo Brozovic and Samir Handanovic) will be available to Inter from either Tuesday April 28 or Wednesday April 29.

The report goes on to state that Inter’s training ground allows them to follow the social distancing regulations for almost everything barring overnight stays due to lack of rooms. Inter are in the process of building new accommodation at the training ground and until this is complete, they will have to house the players in a hotel.
