Italian Government Liquidity Decree Could Help Mitigate Financial Damage Italian Football Clubs Have Suffered

A new Italian government decree could help mitigate the financial damage that the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic has had on football in Italy according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Italian football at all levels has been on hold for a number of weeks due to the virus and as a result clubs have experienced a significant cash shortfall.

Due to the shortfall, guidelines have been agreed between Lega Serie A and clubs regarding wage cuts which is another measure which has been put in place to try and mitigate the damage.

As per the report from the Milan based newspaper, the Italian government are set to introduce a liquidity decree which will see them provide loans to all companies in the country, including football clubs.

The loan, which will have to be repaid over a six year period, will not exceed 25% of a clubs turnover in 2019 or double their personnel costs.

Inter Midfielder Sensi: “My Improvement This Year Is Because Of Conte, I Want To Win The Champions League With Inter”

Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi became the latest Inter player to do a live question and answer session on the club’s social media channels this afternoon and spoke on a range of different topics, firstly by discussing the current lock down situation.

“A lot has changed since the day of our last game, because now obviously everyday life has been disturbed, but we have to stay at home for the common good, it’s a difficult situation that hopefully passes quickly,” he began the interview.

Sensi then went on to discuss the relationships that he has with many of his teammates.

“Barella and I got on very well from the start, we knew each other from the National Team, we’re similar ages, and we get along well on and off the pitch; he’s a great player.

“Overall, I get along well with all my teammates, Brozovic, Barella, Gagliardini, Vecino, Eriksen, Borja Valero, everyone. In general, we’re a close-knit team, a really strong group and I miss them all: if I had to give two names, I’d say Brozovic and Handanovic because we tease each other a lot and get on really well.

“Who are the nicest? Brozovic, Barella and Lukaku, but everyone’s ready to pull someone’s leg at any time.”

Sensi proceeded to discuss some of the most important moments he has experienced during his time on Inter’s books so far.

“When I arrived at Inter, I experienced a strange feeling. From the outside I knew I was joining a top club, due to the team and the people who work there, but once you’re inside you realise that it’s even bigger than you had imagined.

“That’s mainly due to the fans who are magnificent and make you feel part of one big family. The moments I remember with the strongest feelings are my first goal at San Siro, I still remember the fans’ roar and when they shouted my name I got goosebumps, and then the other time was my entrance onto the pitch in my first league match, I had imagined something like it but seeing the stadium full of black and blue was really impressive.

“It was also great to play against Barcelona, coming from a smaller team to getting to play at the Camp Nou is incredible, I used to follow Barcelona the most so that was doubly exciting.”

Italian national team player Sensi went on to discuss his personal growth and what it is like to work under Antonio Conte.

“Starting in pre-season, I trained with different intensity and movements, Conte’s made me grow as a box-to-box midfielder, so I think my improvement this year is down to the manager.”

Sensi has had well documented injury issues this term and then spoke on how it has affected him to miss large spells on the sidelines.

“The injury period? I didn’t cope that well because an injury is always something negative, especially if it takes as long as I did to recover. Seeing my teammates training and playing while I had to sit in the stands wasn’t as nice as playing but I’m happy that that’s all behind me now.”

He then went on to discuss the influence that Italy manager Roberto Mancini and Sassuolo manager Roberto De Zerbi have had on him.

“They were both important manager for me, De Zerbi made me grow a lot, and he gave me confidence in Serie A. While Mancini did the same, he gave me confidence by calling me up to the national team and that helped me improve.”

Sensi then went on to speak about his personal life, including how he came to meet his girlfriend Giulia.

“I met Giulia in Cesena as we had two mutual friends. I didn’t want to go, but a friend of mine convinced me and I met her there, so it was fate. We got a panda tattoo together because it was always our symbol, our lucky charm.

“Since I was a kid, another passion of mine besides football has always been tennis, it’s a sport I follow a lot. As a person, I would define myself as sociable and nice, and as a footballer I prefer not to give myself a definition because I still have to mature a lot and I don’t want to label myself now.”

He concluded the interview by revealing the footballing idols he looked up to as a youngster and what he is hoping to achieve in the future.

“My favourite ever midfield would be made up of Pirlo, Iniesta and Xavi. Xavi has always been my idol, while Iniesta and Pirlo are also two unreal midfielders.

“Would I prefer to win the Champions League or World Cup? If I could choose both, of course I would. The Champions League with Inter and the World Cup with the national team. As far as I’m concerned, I’m happy to have made it this far but I can never lack ambition, so I want to work hard and do more to improve myself.”

Barcelona’s Luis Suarez: “Inter’s Lautaro Has Been Growing A Lot, He Is A Great Striker”

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has shown his appreciation for both Neymar and Lautaro Martinez, two players that the reigning Spanish champions have been linked with in recent weeks and months.

“It is difficult to talk about players today. As is the situation in the world today, talking about who can come because of how everything is is complicated,” he remarked in an interview with Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Suarez then went on to discuss Paris Saint Germain’s Neymar, who is someone Barcelona have been very strongly linked with and is someone Suarez knows very well having played alongside him at Barcelona previously.

“Obviously everyone knows Neymar and we know the appreciation that we have for him in the dressing room, which as a player is indisputable because he still has a lot to give and in the dressing room he would always be welcome because of the affection he has.”

He then went on to speak about Lautaro, who is widely reported to be one of the Blaugrana club’s number one transfer targets for the Summer transfer window.

“Lautaro is a player who has been growing a lot in Italy, he is a ‘nine’ who has movements that are spectacular and that reflects how great a striker he is.”

Uruguayan national team striker Suarez then went on to state that players willing to fight and help out will always be welcomed at the club and he appeared to show zero signs of bitterness that Barcelona were looking to bring in multiple players who could keep him out the team.

“When it comes to healthy competition in the team, there will always be that and everyone will be on the same side. Players who come to fight for a place and help the team will always be welcome. It will always make things better and it will strengthen the group.”

Matias Vecino’s Future With Inter Could Go One Of Three Ways

Matias Vecino’s immediate footballing future could go one of three ways according to a report in today’s print edition of Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The Uruguayan national team midfielder could firstly be sold by Inter to raise some funds for the Summer transfer window. Everton showed a keen interest in signing him back in January and he looked set to leave but the move never came to fruition and it is understood that Everton are not still interested in him.

Secondly, Inter could use him as a trade chip in a deal for one of their many transfer targets. Finally, he could end up staying put at Inter given that Borja Valero’s contract is set to expire with the club and will not be extended.

Vecino has been with Inter since the Summer of 2017 from fellow Serie A side Fiorentina and has a contract with the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.

This season he has scored three goals and provided a single assists in 23 appearances.

Inter Linked Giroud Holds Talks With Chelsea Over Potential Contract Extension

Olivier Giroud has started preliminary talks with Chelsea over potentially extending his contract with the club according to a report from British news outlet Football London.

The Frenchman’s current deal with the Premier League outfit is due to expire at the end of this season and there has been no shortage of clubs keen on signing him up on a free transfer, including both Inter and Lazio.

However, the 33-year-old, who was part of France’s 2018 World Cup winning side, could well extend his stay with the London based club, who he has represented since January 2018.

Chelsea would be open to offering Giroud a one year contract extension but it is currently unclear as to whether or not he would accept a short term deal given the length of deals reportedly on offer elsewhere.

This season Giroud has been limited to just 13 appearances across all competitions. In just under 700 minutes on the field, he has scored three goals.

Inter Stand To Save 20M Should They Sell Ex-Atletico Madrid Defender Diego Godin In The Summer

Inter will make a saving of around €20 million if central defender Diego Godin departs in the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

With Godin having struggled at the club since his arrival on a free transfer this past Summer, it is looking increasingly likely that he will bid farewell to the club at the end of the season.

Godin has struggled to adapt to manager Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system and for this reason Inter will evaluate offers that come in for him in the coming months.

The 34-year-old currently earns €5 million net a season and with two years still left on his deal Inter will save approximately €20 million in gross wages if he departs.

The report goes on to state that if Godin does go on to leave, Inter could bring in Hellas Verona’s Marash Kumbulla to replace him. The young Albanian defender could cost around €20-25 million according to various reports.
