Inter Coach Antonio Conte Hoping Christian Eriksen Will Impress Against Bologna

Inter coach Antonio Conte is hoping that Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen will impress against Bologna this afternoon, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 28-year-old former Tottenham midfielder, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2024, has been inconsistent since the restart of the Serie A season.

He has appeared in every game since the restart, but his performances have been alternating between impressive and disappointing, doing well against Napoli, Sampdoria and Brescia and disappointing against Sassuolo and Parma.

Conte has changed Inter’s formation from a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-1-2, the report continues, in order to better accommodate Eriksen. The player has improved dramatically since his arrival in January and so now today’s game against Bologna will give the Dane the perfect chance to impress the former Juventus coach.

Eriken has one goal and two assists in eight Serie A appearances this season.

Nicolo Barella Doubtful To Start In Inter’s Serie A Clash Against Bologna This Afternoon

Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is in doubt for this afternoon’s Serie A clash against Bologna, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the 23-year-old Italian midfielder, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2024, is suffering from a slight adductor fatigue and may start this afternoon’s game against the Rossoblu on the bench. The former Cagliari man did finish training with his squad yesterday but is in a slight amount of pain.

Inter coach Antonio Conte will decide later whether to start him or deploy another midfielder alongside Roberto Gagliardini, the report continues, with both Croatian Marcelo Brozovic and Spaniard Borja Valero in contention.

Barella has made 33 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2365 minutes. In that time, he has scored three goals and provided six assists, being a core part of Conte’s squad.

Lautaro Martinez Could Renew Contract With Inter After €111M Release Clause Expires

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez could renew his contract with Inter after his €111 million release clause expires on Tuesday next week, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 22-year-old Argentine striker, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has been the top target of Barcelona for some time now, but the Blaugrana have been unable to pay the player’s release clause in full.

Instead, the Catalan club have been hoping to offer Inter players in exchange, in order to lower the cash payment required. One of these players was Junior Firpo, the report continues, but now Inter’s acceleration in the race to sign Chelsea’s Emerson clearly displays that the Milanese club are no longer interested in the Barcelona man.

Now that it seems likely that Lautaro will stay with Inter, he could renew his contract until 2024, which would also see his wages doubled to €5 million net per season.

Ex-Nerazzurri Coach Luciano Spalletti: “I Was Lucky Enough To Work For Inter”

Former Inter coach Luciano Spalletti discussed his experiences with the Nerazzurri in an interview released on the official Serie A YouTube channel on Friday.

“Football is the heart of the world, it beats the same everywhere. Those who love it, always play at home and never away. I have consumed miles of road with football, going to catch all the most beautiful sensations.

“I was lucky enough to work for Inter, in Milan I was able to experience the emotions inside that stadium which is the theatre of football and perhaps one of the most beautiful stadiums in Italy. In football, you can often find the dreams of children.”

The 61-year-old Spalletti was the Inter coach from 2017 to 2019. He started his first season strongly with the Nerazzurri, which saw them top the Serie A table after 16 games, sitting undefeated.

Fortune quickly changed but Inter still finished in the top 4, which saw them qualify for the Champions League in dramatic fashion after beating Lazio 4-2 in the final game of the season. This was the first time that the Milanese club had qualified for the Champions League in six years, an important step in the rebuild of the project at Inter.

Spalletti managed to guide Inter to another top 4 finish in his second season in charge, but was dismissed by the club at the end of the season, in order to make way for former Chelsea and Juventus coach Antonio Conte.

Italian Media Highlights How Inter Concerned About Lautaro Martinez’ Dip In Form Due To Barcelona Links

Inter are worried that Lautaro Martinez’s dip in form is due to the interest from Barcelona and fear that his performances won’t recover, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

The report details how the 22-year-old Argentine striker, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has been at the centre of attention in the transfer market for some time now, with Barcelona incredibly keen to sign him.

The Blaugrana have been unable to pay his €111 million release clause, which expires in two days’ time, and so it seems likely now that the player will remain with Inter next season.

Inter are concerned that his dip in form is due to Barcelona’s interest and the failed move, the report continues, and fear that his form won’t recover for the rest of the season due to the situation.

The 22-year-old hasn’t resembled the player he was before Christmas, and even before the Coronavirus stop his form was suffering.

Dejan Stankovic: “I Played For Inter For 10 Years & I Love My Friend Bologna Coach Mihajlovic”

Red Star Belgrade coach and former Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic discussed the Nerazzurri’s league clash against Bologna later this afternoon in an interview published yesterday by Italian newspaper Corriere di Bologna, as reported by FcInterNews.

“Inter-Bologna? I’m not rooting for anyone. I played at Inter for ten years and I’ll never stop thanking the club for everything they gave me. On the other hand, with Bologna there will be my friend Sinisa Mihajlovic.”

The 41-year-old Serbian then discussed his relationship with the Bologna coach, who previously played for Inter, Lazio and Sampdoria.

“I love him, I love him more than anything in the world. He was my guide in everything, maybe only someone like him could face what happened to him in this way. I’m happy to see him back on the bench doing what he loves most.”

Mihajlovic publicly announced that he was diagnosed with leukemia last year, and the Rossoblu gave the 51-year-old their full support, keeping him on as coach.

Bologna are currently 11th in Serie A after 29 games, with a record of ten wins, eight draws and 11 losses, sitting on 38 points. A win against the Nerazzurri could see the club rise as high as 9th in the league table.

Inter are currently 3rd in the league table after 29 games, four points behind second place Lazio and eight points behind rivals Juventus. The Nerazzurri still have the chance to compete for the league title, but cannot afford to drop any more points in the remaining games of the season.

Preview – Inter vs Bologna: Pushing For Second Place Against A Trio Of Exes

Following the dismantling of Brescia on Wednesday, Inter host Bologna as the guests look to start a tradition of raining on the Nerazzurri parade. Match today Sunday at 17.15 CET.

With second place potentially just a single point away, Inter have the opportunity to make concrete improvements to their last couple of seasons’ finishes. In order to continue maintaining distance from rampant Atalanta and come within touching distance from second place, Inter need to take care of a very tricky guest in Bologna.

Antonio Conte’s Inter made amends for a couple of sub-par performances against Sassuolo and Parma by ravaging a hapless Brescia, scoring six goals against their Lombardian neighbors. Conte will look to build on the victory by dispatching Bologna, a team coached by the wily Sinisa Mihajlovic.

Conte seems to have found a bit of balance to his squad rotation, and with Marcelo Brozovic ostensibly returning to the starting lineup, the midfield might finally have its preferred starting duo sitting behind playmaker Christian Erisksen. Possibly more importantly for the hosts, Alexis Sanchez looks to have rediscovered a patch of real form which will give Inter real options going forward.

Bologna seem to have secured safety from relegation and appear to be too far from a European finish, but that will mean very little in terms of motivation (or lack thereof) for coach Mihajlovic. The Serbian ex-Interista coach is known for always putting up a fight, regardless of what is at stake.

Bologna is a team studded with ex-Interisti; Rodrigo Palacio, Gary Medel and Andrea Poli and observers will know that Inter are particularly susceptible to the curse of the ex. That said, the biggest threat to Inter could potentially be Nicola Sansone, a forward who is very familiar to ruining an Inter party.

Despite the visitors having little to play for, expect this to be a hard-fought match with Inter working very hard for any points they will collect.

Team News

Milan Skriniar will be sitting out the final match of his three match suspension. Marcelo Brozovic will finally be fully available for the match and will finally make the matchday squad. Stefano Sensi, Victor Moses and Matias Vecino will all miss the call-up due to their respective injuries.

Probable line-up (3-4-1-2): Handanovic (C); Bastoni, de Vrij, Godin; Young, Barella, Brozovic, Candreva; Eriksen; Sanchez, Lukaku.

Stats

Last Season: Inter 0 – 1 Bologna

Last 10 Head to Head: Despite having lost to Bologna last season at the San Siro, this will have been Bologna’s only win against the Nerazzurri in the last ten matches while Inter have beaten the visitors six times.

Keep an Eye on

Alexis Sanchez: The Chilean forward had a man-of-the-match performance against Brescia, and viewers will be watching closely to see if Sanchez can continue building on that performance and slowly rediscover his form of half a decade ago. An in-form Sanchez is a great addition to any football team, particularly so for Conte, who needs any depth up in attack.

Officials

Referee: Luca Pairetto.

Assistants: Fiorito and De Meo.

Fourth Official: Ghersini.

VAR: Di Paolo and Ranghetti.

Prediction & Concluding Remarks

Prediction & scorers: Inter 2-0 Bologna. Sanchez and Brozovic to score.

Concluding remarks: Do not expect a result similar to the demolition of Brescia, Bologna are a solid team coached by a very capable manager who will challenge Inter at every point in the match. That said, expect Inter’s quality to finally prevail.

Romanian National Team Coach Radoi: “Ionut Radu Will Return To Inter At End Of The Season”

Romania coach Mirel Radoi discussed the situation surrounding Inter owned goalkeeper Andrei Ionut Radu in an interview with Romanian newspaper Gazeta Sportulor yesterday afternoon.

“Although he has extended his contract with Parma until the end of the season, from what I know he will return to Inter. In this sense also Cosmin Olaroiu, the coach of Jiangsu Suning, helped me by giving me this information. The people who are at Inter want him there, let’s see if he will stay or will be sent away on loan.”

Radu has spent this season on loan at both Genoa and Parma, switching to the Emilia based club in the January transfer window.

Inter are looking for a new goalkeeper as captain Samir Handanovic is set to be phased out of the squad after next season, with Radu being one of the many options available to the Nerazzurri. Another potential option is Udinese number one Juan Musso.

Radu is a product of Inter’s youth system but has only ever made one first team appearance for the club. The 23-year-old Romanian shot stopper has made 19 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1740 minutes. In that time, he has conceded 37 goals and kept two clean sheets, struggling to perform in a sluggish Genoa squad.
