Inter coach Antonio Conte discussed the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash against Bologna tomorrow in an interview on the official Inter site.
First, he spoke about how it feels coming off such a decisive win, the 6-0 win over Brescia in the mid-week game.
“We restart after a good game that was well played, played at a high pace for the whole 90 minutes so the enthusiasm is important but it has to be daily. The team is fine, they want to do well, we also know we’re meeting a team that is physically well, it will be a good match.”
The former Juventus and Chelsea coach touched on how Bologna have changed since their first meeting before Christmas.
“They’re a team with excellent values coached by an excellent coach. He prefers to play at high intensity, I remember the first match well, with difficulty. We went from 1-0 to 2-1, we know what match to expect, the guys are prepared. We also like to play aggressively and at a high pace. Tomorrow it’s going to be a tough one.”
Conte highlighted that tomorrow’s game is being played at 15:15, a new time for a Serie A clash.
“Yes, it’s the first time we’ve played at that time, it’s certainly going to be very hot for us, but for them too. You have to see what rhythms we will be able to bring but we are two teams that love quick movements and I don’t think that the climate can change the game of the two teams completely.”
He commented on how six different players scored against Brescia on Wednesday and how that helps the squad.
“I think that’s a characteristic of this team, the fact that six different players score in one match means that we bring different men into the offensive phase. There is a statistic that shows that Inter are the team where the most players have scored, which shows that there is total involvement between the possession and non-possession phase.”
The former Italy boss discussed the need for the squad to be able to rotate effectively.
“It’s important to have plenty in the squad because it allows you to rotate and create competition within the group. It’s inevitable that the work you do on a daily basis allows players to rotate because the player who enter know perfectly what they have to do. It’s right to rotate and Inter have the opportunity to do so. The important thing is that the player who comes in knows what he has to do.”
The Lecce born coach refused to confirm or deny if Marcelo Brozovic will be fit enough to start against the Rossoblu.
“We’re happy to have Brozovic back, he had this little problem solved today. It’s inevitable that he’s lost a few days of training compared to the others, so he’s in a bit of a condition, but the important thing is that he’s recovered from a physical point of view and that he’s available. We will evaluate the best things for him so that he is ready to return to play.”
Conte spoke about two former Nerazzurri players, Rodrigo Palacio and Sinisa Mihajlovic, who are currently at Bologna.
“Palacio is having a great season, he had an incredible game in the first leg. Studying Bologna, we understand that he is a player of superior football intelligence, he plays for the team. As far as Sinisa is concerned, we’re talking about a coach who has proved his worth as well as being a great person I like very much. Tomorrow we’ll face a tough hurdle, we’ll have to be good.”
Finally, Conte spoke about how the cooling break also allows him to talk in detail to the squad further.
“Yes, although I think it’s more useful in terms of hydration because at these temperatures it’s important for players to be able to drink.”
