Nerazzurri Legend Giuseppe Bergomi: “Inter’s Defenders Suffered Against Parma’s Attackers”

Inter legend Beppe Bergomi discussed the Nerazzurri’s important 2-1 win over Parma in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

“The Inter defenders resolved the match and suffered a lot because the three Parma forwards played well. Cornelius for physicality, Gervinho for speed and goal, Kulusevski played very well.”

Bergomi highlighted the issues that the Nerazzurri had against the Emilian club last night.

“Godin had little to do with the goal, de Vrij was out of position and the Inter defence had a difficult time in the game because they lacked speed on an open pitch. In many situations, however, they stop goals in a lined-up defence.”

The Italian discussed how the extra substitutions allows the coaches to make more unique tactical decisions.

“Usually you don’t think about changing a defender. With five substitutions you can think about putting Bastoni in. You have to be more skilful with subs to improve your team, Atalanta, for example, has optimal substitutions.”

Finally, Bergomi spoke about Real Madrid right back Achraf Hakimi, who is set to sign for the Nerazzurri over the next couple of days.

“Inter crosses a lot, with Candreva and Biraghi. Hakimi is another type of player, who penetrates, changes pace and seeks to exchange with the striker.”

Inter are set to sign the 21-year-old Hakimi this week, paying Los Blancos €40 million plus €5 million in add-ons for the Moroccan right back.

The Nerazzurri have also offered the Real Madrid youth product a five-year contract worth €5 million net per season, plus add-ons. Hakimi has made 45 appearances across all competitions this season for Borussia Dortmund, for a total of 3571 minutes. In that time, he has scored nine goals and provided 10 assists.

Inter Assistant Coach Cristian Stellini: “Lautaro Martinez Is Motivated & Playing Well”

Inter assistant coach Cristian Stellini discussed the Nerazzurri’s important 2-1 comeback over Parma when speaking to gathered reporters in the official post match press conference after the game with his statements being reported by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“We are very satisfied with the result and also with how it came out, despite the difficulties we had when we conceded goals in the first half and suffered counter attacks in the first half.

“We managed to overturn it to a deserved result, we suffered some counterattacks but we created a lot of chances. We take home this result with the satisfaction of a team that doesn’t give up, these are important values.”

He discussed the reasons why the Inter squad look more sluggish and don’t resemble the team that excited many before the Christmas break.

“The reasons can be many, we have some shortcomings, we had to rotate players not by technical choice. Today we had two defenders on the pitch who hadn’t played since before the lockdown.

“Then we had a strong team in front of us, with great attackers. We knew we’d suffer, but we created a lot. We remain confident and satisfied. If before the lockdown our path was a medium-long term one, today it’s even more so.”

The Inter assistant coach briefly touched on the title race against Juventus and whether the Nerazzurri can close the gap.

“When you’re behind, it’s not just up to you, it’s also up to the others. We’ve played our season with the desire to get results. We’re convinced we can take satisfaction away from Juve, but it’s not just up to us.”

Stellini dispelled the idea that Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is struggling disproportionately more than his teammates.

“Eriksen’s not the only one who’s struggling, he’s doing well. Clearly, playing every three days isn’t easy for anyone. He’s determined, and we can’t not go home happy tonight.”

He commented on the fact that both goals against Parma were scored by defenders, Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan de Vrij.

“The chances were there for other players too, we could take advantage of others. The defenders scored and that’s fine.”

Finally, Stellini challenged the notion that Lautaro Martinez has a psychological issue and may have had his head turned by Barcelona.

“I don’t agree, he’s playing well, even tonight he’s creating opportunities. He’s helping the team a lot. I don’t see any difficulty, I see a motivated boy who is doing what he has to do.”

Inter are now eight points behind rivals and league leaders Juventus, who beat Lecce 4-0 on Friday to remain firm at the top of the table. Second place Lazio are four points behind the Bianconeri and four points ahead of the Milanese club.

Inter Defender Stefan de Vrij: “My Goal? In Right Place At The Right Time, Important Win”

Inter defender Stefan de Vrij discussed the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 comeback win over Parma in an interview with Italian broadcaster InterTV after the game where the 28-year-old Dutchman scored the opening goal in the win.

“My third goal of the season? I was in the right place at the right time. There is satisfaction for the goal and the victory, obviously we are happy.

“We have always tried to play the game, to create chances. We struggled and suffered a bit on the back foot because they’re good there.”

He spoke about how it’s difficult to comeback from a one goal deficit and how he is doing with the season restart and his physical condition.

“It’s not easy to go behind, but we managed to put it back together again. How do I feel? I’m improving, trying to do my best in every game.

“It’s very important for the team spirit to have made a comeback in the last few minutes, after the equaliser we looked for an advantage and believed in it until the end. It’s definitely a starting point tonight. We’ll try to win every game starting on Wednesday. The games are close to each other and we all have to be ready.”

The 28-year-old de Vrij, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has made 34 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2938 minutes.

In that time, he has scored three goals and provided four assists. The player has been a core part of coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system and has only missed six games all season, with his last league absence being in the Milanese club’s 2-1 win over Cagliari at the start of September.

De Vrij is one of the mainstays of Conte’s back line and will surely remain with the club for the foreseeable future.
