Ex-Palmeiras Director Mattos On Man City’s Gabriel Jesus: “He’d Be A Great Signing For Inter”

Former Palmeiras director Alexandre Mattos has confirmed that Inter had made a huge bid for Gabriel Jesus prior to his move to Manchester City back in January 2017.

“We had two meetings with Inter and their offer was €45 million,” he explained in an interview with Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

He then went on to quickly reveal why a move to Inter never took place.

“Gabriel had already spoken and given his word to Guardiola. There were four major European clubs on him. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Inter. All options made him very happy.”

Next Mattos was asked to cast his mind back to 2016 and asked to decide whether he would have signed Jesus or Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa, who ended up at Inter but flopped massively and is now back in Brazil with Flamengo.

“Both were fantastic. Jesus was growing whilst Gabigol had more experience. Let’s say, however, that both are excellent players with different styles. The former is more powerful and faster, the latter more technical. I’m biased and I’m a fan of Gabriel Jesus, who is my friend. I’d always like to have him on my team.”

In conclusion he was asked about reports in the media which have suggested Inter could make a move for the Brazilian should Lautaro Martinez leave the club.

“He would undoubtedly be a great signing. We are talking about a top player and an exemplary professional. If Inter manage to catch him, the team’s technical quality will undoubtedly increase.”

Whilst with Manchester City, Gabriel Jesus has made 141 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park he has scored a total of 63 goals and has also provided 26 assists for his teammates.

Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “We Deserved So Much More Against Sassuolo”

Inter manager Antonio Conte has today shared his belief that the team deserved more from last night’s draw against Sassuolo given the number of chances that the team created throughout the match at San Siro.

Inter fell behind early doors as multiple mistakes allowed Francesco Caputo to put the visitors ahead. Inter pulled one back via Romelu Lukaku five minutes from half time and moments later Cristiano Biraghi put Inter ahead.

Inter had so many chances to extend their lead but they did not score next. Sassuolo tied things up again with 10 minutes to play and then five minutes later Inter took the lead against via Borja Valero but it was short lived as Sassuolo equalised again soon after.

“I think we deserved much more given the chances we created. There is certainly a lot of disappointment on my part and on the boys part too,” Conte remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset earlier on today.

“You have to see out certain games and not give up the three points but we did not succeed in this and we are sorry.”

Following last night’s result, Inter remain in third place in the Serie A table but now find themselves eight points adrift of league leaders Juventus.

Italian Journalist Condo: “Conte’s Turnover Proved There’s Players In Squad Not Good Enough For Inter”

Italian football journalist Paolo Condo has shared his belief that there are members of Inter’s squad who are not up to the task of playing for a club like the Nerazzurri following last night’s draw at home to Sassuolo.

Inter manager Antonio Conte made no less than five changes to the side that started this past weekend’s 2-1 win over Sampdoria with the likes of Andrea Ranocchia and Borja Valero being brought into the side.

The game got off to the worst possible start for Inter as they conceded within the first few minutes with Ranocchia largely at fault for the goal.

Inter did manage to get themselves ahead by the half time interval, which they went into 2-1 ahead. Inter had a tonne of chances in the second half to put the game out of reach but failed to do so before Sassuolo equalised.

With a few minutes to go, Inter took the lead once more and looked as if they had secured themselves an all important three points but moments later conceded meaning the points were shared.

“The turnover of players has shown that there are players who are not good enough for this Inter. Eriksen did something but I didn’t like him very much. He is a champion, but the team is destined to shine when Eriksen shines,” Condo explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, earlier on today.

Inter’s Milan Skriniar Handed 3 Match Ban + €10K Fine After Being Sent Off Against Sassuolo

Inter central defender Milan Skriniar has been hit with a three match suspension and fine following his sending off in last night’s 3-3 draw at home to Sassuolo.

In the dying embers of the match Skriniar picked up a second yellow card and referee Davide Massa showed him a red card.

Skriniar did not take too kindly to be showing red and has been fined €10,000 for comments and gestures he made toward Massa although it is not specified in the sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea report what the Slovakian national team player said.

With him having a three match suspension to serve, Inter will have to do without the former Sampdoria player for the matches against Parma, Brescia and Bologna.

This season Skriniar, who is under contract with Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season, has made 35 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, which totals just over 3000 minutes, he has contributed two assists.

Italian Report Highlight’s How Inter Missed Nicilo Barella’s Energy Against Sassuolo

Inter missed the energy of central midfielder Nicolo Barella in last night’s 3-3 draw at home to Sassuolo according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

The Italian national team player started the match on the bench and many expected him to be substituted on in the second half but he never did get the chance to come on.

Following this result, Inter now find themselves as good as out of the race for the Serie A title this season having slipped eight points behind league leaders Juventus.

The report also goes on to criticise Inter manager Antonio Conte for his decision to heavily rotate the team for the match compared to the team that started in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Sampdoria. As a result of the turnover, Inter failed to win a match that they could have won, the Milan based news outlet believe.
