Arturo Vidal: “I Love Inter’s Antonio Conte, I Want To Be Important For Barcelona If Not We’ll See What Happens”

Inter linked Arturo Vidal discussed the return to football, his future and his relationship with Nerazzurri coach Antonio Conte in an interview with Spanish media outlet El Periodico earlier today.

First, he talked about his career and how long he has left, considering that he is 33 years old.

“I feel in this moment that I have three or four years more at the highest level. The numbers speak for themselves.”

The Chilean midfielder touched on his future and whether he would stay with Barcelona or not after the summer.

“There’s two months left until the end of the season. I want to feel important, if not then you have to do what is best for your career. In Barcelona I’m happy, my family is happy and I have excellent teammates.

“I like to play, I like to feel important. I don’t say every game, but the fundamental ones, the ones that help you win titles. There are many feelings that come into play.”

Vidal commented on his relationship with Conte, who coached the Chilean during his time at Juventus.

“We have an excellent relationship. He knows that I’m a winner, that he can trust me. That’s what I want here too. There’s two months left, and I hope to feel this trust here too.”

The player didn’t see himself leaving the club as part of an exchange deal. Rumours have linked the player with a move to Inter by including him in the deal for Lautaro Martinez.

“I’ve built my whole career on my own. In return, it’s been very strong. I’m very quiet and I’m not a kid. I have a career that few people can boast with. I can’t comment every time an article comes out in the press. They change versions all the time, in the end you risk going crazy.”

He spoke about his experiences in lockdown due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

“It was a bad experience. Nobody expected it, hopefully such a pandemic will never happen again. It’s been a very difficult month for everyone. I was not alone.

“I was accompanied by Juan Ramírez, my trainer and, in addition, two friends of mine who had come to visit me in these days had to stay here, obviously, to pass the pandemic. This made me work more comfortably at home because they were there.”

Vidal spoke about his training sessions and how hard he has been working at home. A video of him running 10 kilometres in 38 minutes recently went viral.

“I’ve done two workouts a day. There was a day when I was training with Juanma and suddenly I started to do a challenge on video. The 10 km in 38 minutes? I didn’t want it to go viral.

“The resistance training was working, and it occurred to me that I should continue. I did the 10 km in 38.08 minutes. But I could slowly improve that time. Thank God I’m better prepared than ever.”

Finally, Vidal talked about what he would like to do after he retires from football.

“In this isolation, I was taken by the desire to become a coach. I’ve had coaches of all styles and cultures. Conte, Guardiola, Ancelotti, Heynckes. Some of them have changed me a lot. Conte, I love him. Guardiola knows a lot about football. Heynckes and Ancelotti, too, the way they handled the squads. In time, I want to bring together the best in each and then make my career.”

Inter Captain Samir Handanovic Set To Pen One Year Contract Extension Until June 2022

Inter captain Samir Handanovic will start for the Nerazzurri against Napoli tonight and is close to signing a one-season contract extension, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 35-year-old Slovenian goalkeeper missed the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals due to a finger injury but will start against the Partenopei tonight. The shot stopper gives coach Antonio Conte a bit of peace of mind, considering his ability to stop penalties, which could prove decisive in tonight’s game.

Handanovic has saved 24 penalties in his career in Serie A, the report continues, the same number as former Italy international Gianluca Pagliuca. The 35-year-old matched Pagliuca’s record in January after he saved Luis Muriel’s penalty in the dying minutes of a 1-1 draw against Atalanta. Handanovic is very close to renewing his contract with the Nerazzurri for an extra season, giving it an expiry date of 2022.

Inter Have Taken First Steps To Keeping Man Utd Owned Alexis Sanchez Over Next Season

Inter are considering keeping on loan Alexis Sanchez for another season, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 31-year-old Chilean forward has been on loan at the Nerazzurri from Manchester United this season but has struggled to make a significant impact in Milan. The player suffered an ankle injury early in the season that saw him miss three months, and he only featured lightly before the season was put on hold by the Coronavirus pandemic. Sanchez now has time to prove himself in the remaining games of the season, and the Nerazzurri are paying close attention.

Inter have already been in talks with the Red Devils about a loan extension, the report continues, and could even ask for the player for next season as well. Inter coach Antonio Conte is a big fan of the 31-year-old Chilean and is hoping he will be able to stay for next season as well.

Inter Cool Down Interest In Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen & Step Up Pursuit Of Nice Defender Malang Sarr

Inter have accelerated in the race to sign French defender Malang Sarr, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri have sped up in the talks to sign the 21-year-old French centre back, who is contracted to Nice until the end of June. Sarr has long been followed by the Milanese club, as they consider him the ideal player for coach Antonio Conte and his tactical system, considering that the player is left-footed and can play in a back three.

Inter would look to sign Sarr as a free agent after his contract expires with Nice, the report continues, a bargain considering that the player is worth around €20-25 million. The Milanese club have moved away from signing Jan Vertonghen, considering his age, high wages and no chance of a future sale.

The Nerazzurri still intend to sign Marash Kumbulla, the report highlights, and they will leave him in Verona for another year to mature and play more regularly. Lyon were interested in Diego Godin, but the Uruguayan’s wages are too high for the French club.

Lautaro Martinez Reassures Inter Coach Conte Of Being Fully Focused On Remainder Of Season

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has reassured both his coach Antonio Conte and the club that he is fully focused on finishing the season strongly, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 22-year-old Argentine striker, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, will be taking to the pitch tonight for the first time in three months to face Napoli in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals. The player has reassured Conte and the club that he is focused on finishing the season and hasn’t had his focus broken by the strong interest of Catalan side Barcelona.

Lautaro will play alongside Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku tonight, the report continues, with Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen behind him. Whilst there are doubts about the players physical conditions, considering the three month stop due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Milanese club are hoping to overcome the 1-0 deficit and beat the Partenopei tonight.

Belgium National Team Coach Roberto Martinez On Inter’s Romelu Lukaku: “A Unique Striker”

In an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Belgium national team manager Roberto Martinez has sang the praises of Inter striker Romelu Lukaku.

In his first season at Inter, the Belgian national team forward has excelled and been an integral part in Inter’s success this season with him having netted 23 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions to date.

“I was sure he would do well. I know him very well and known him since he was 19,” Martinez began the interview which appeared in yesterday’s print edition.

“He is a unique number nine and he had been hungry to play in Serie A for a long time. He had the idea of playing in Italy and working with a manager like Conte in his head for months.”

Martinez then spoke on how important it was for Lukaku that Conte is in charge at Inter.

“Conte was very important for him. I was convinced that Antonio would give him the right instructions to allow him to express himself to the maximum and bring the best out of him and this has happened. I think Romelu can end the season in an incredible way.”

The former Everton manager was then asked whether he thinks that Lukaku still has room to improve.

“He is a player who always wants to improve and who wants to study. He always tries to do better the next time. However, I believe that his goal must be to remain an attacker who sees the goal and scores with continuity as he always has done. From this point of view, Rom is a unique talent.”

Martinez was then asked if Lautaro Martinez possibly leaving could impact Lukaku’s success at Inter.

“It won’t be a problem for him to change partners, Lukaku can adapt to any type of striker who plays next to him, he doesn’t need one or the other.”

Next Martinez was asked about Dries Mertens and his decision to snub a move to Inter in order to sign a contract extension with Napoli.

“I think he made the right decision. Dries has been very important for Belgium in these years. We have reached number one in the world and much of the credit for that is his. He is a player who we appreciate immensely.

“He could go to any team in the world, he could choose to earn all the money he wanted but for me his choice to stay at Napoli is an incredible story that is good for all of Italian football.”

In conclusion Martinez was asked about Lukaku and Mertens starting their coaching badges.

“They are ready to be coaches. They are intelligent players, they know all the basic concepts of football, they have a great influence on teammates. For me they are two phenomenons. They can still give a lot to Belgium and Italian football and I am sure they will be able to continue like this even when they are coaches.”

Inter Legend Sandro Mazzola: “Inter Could Surprise Napoli In Coppa Italia Clash”

Legendary former Inter player Sandro Mazzola has shared his belief that Napoli should not underestimate Inter in their Coppa Italia tie.

The two sides are set to meet at the Stadio San Paolo tonight and Napoli head into the match at their home ground with a 1-0 advantage over the visiting Nerazzurri from the first leg match-up, which was contested back in February.

“I think Napoli are favourites over Inter, but Napoli should be careful. The Nerazzurri play very well away from home and may surprise Gattuso’s team. In football anything is possible, let’s wait and see what happens,” Mazzola began an interview ahead of the match with Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli ahead of the match.

Mazzola, who spent the entirety of his playing career at Inter, then went on to share his thoughts on Inter’s failed pursuit of Napoli’s Dries Mertens.

“Inter could have done a great deal by signing Mertens. I really like the Belgian, he is a champion, Inter probably moved too late to sign him.”

Mazzola came through the ranks at Inter and debuted in 1960. He spent the next 17 years on the clubs books before retiring in 1977 after over 500 appearances in the Nerazzurri shirt.

Following his retirement, Mazzola became part of the club management set-up at the club and he also served as Inter’s sporting director for a period in the 1990s.
