Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti: “Europa League A Prestigious Tournament & We Hope To Win It”

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has reiterated that Inter’s aim is to go all the way in the Europa League, when speaking to UEFA’s official Twitter account, following the draw for the latter stages earlier on today.

Inter can face either Rangers or Bayer Leverkusen in the quarter finals of the competition, which will be contested in August across four cities in Germany but as Zanetti rightly points out, Inter have to get past Spanish outfit Getafe in the last 16 first.

“When you get to this stage of the competition, all teams are very difficult. Bayer Leverkusen and Glasgow Rangers are teams we have already crossed in the past, but first we must overcome a complicated team in Getafe.

“It’s a very prestigious tournament, we hope to go all the way,” he remarked in an interview with tournament organisers UEFA’s official website.

If Inter are to get past Getafe and then either or Rangers or Bayer Leverkusen they can face one of Shakhtar Donetsk, Wolfsburg, Basel and Eintracht Frankfurt at the semi final stage of the competition.

The Nerazzurri, who have won the competition three times in their history, could then face with favorites Manchester United, Wolverhampton, Roma or Sevilla in the Final which will be played on August 21.

Italian Media Report Inter Cool Interest In Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa After Signing Achraf Hakimi

Inter’s interest in signing Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa appears to have cooled according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere Fiorentino.

The Nerazzurri club have been strongly linked with making a move for the Italian national team winger for a long time but Inter have signed Achraf Hakimi to play at right wing-back already and seem to have shifted their attention onto improving other areas of the team now.

Chiesa is facing an uncertain future with La Viola, who he has a contract with until the end of the 2021/22 season. Chiesa has not yet asked to leave but has also not shown a willingness to sign a contract extension and as time passes it seems less and less likely that he will sign a new contract with the Florence based club.

This season the 22-year-old has made 30 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored seven goals and provided five assists for his teammates.

Italian Report Argues Hellas Verona’s Sofyan Amrabat Should’ve Been Sent Off Against Inter

In today’s print edition, Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have pointed out that referee Massimiliano Irrati made several mistakes in last night’s 2-2 draw between Hellas Verona and Inter at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

One of his biggest mistakes was his failure to dish out a second yellow card to Hellas Verona midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, especially on the hour mark when he fouled Ashley Young.

He escaped punishment much to the annoyance of Inter manager Antonio Conte and the Inter coaching staff and assistant manager Cristian Stellini ended up getting booked for his complaints.

Inter fell behind early doors against the Gialloblu club and performed poorly in the first half but came out a different team in the second half. Inter quickly took the lead but were unable to kill the game off and this cost them as Miguel Veloso scored late on to secure a point for the hosts.

Which Clubs Are Inter’s Biggest Challengers To Winning The Europa League?

The 2019/20 season has been a strange one for many Inter fans due to the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown measures.

It has been the same for fans across the footballing world who also saw their seasons halted for a while. While some played at top USA online casinos to pass the time or found other sports to follow, it was a real relief for fans when football swung back into action recently. For Inter fans, this means that their team will soon be back in Europa League action as UEFA recently announced the competition would start again in August.

There is no doubt that manager Antonio Conte has a strong enough squad to take the trophy home with players like Lukaku, Young, Barella, Godín, Brozovic, and Martínez to call on. Although dropping out of the Champions League was a blow, they eased past Ludogorets in the Round of 32 to set up a tie with Spanish team Getafe in the Round of 16.

This was hit by the COVID-19 lockdown, though, and is now due to be played as a one-off game in early August. Inter look to be playing into some kind of form with three wins, and two draws from their last six games in Serie A. That should mean that Getafe holds little fear for them and will see Inter progress further in the competition. One thing is for sure – manager Conte is sure to make winning the Europa League Inter’s priority this year now.

Inter are not the only strong team heading into the latter stages of the Europa League. But which other sides might give the best team from Milan trouble?

Manchester United

Perhaps THE major challenger that Inter will have to overcome to clinch the trophy is Manchester United. They have been excellent in the Europa League so far. United topped their group with 14 points and only lost one game along the way. They have already played the first leg of their Last 16 tie against LASK Linz, which they won 5-0. That should see them breeze through the second leg and into the quarter-finals.

Top dangermen for Inter should they face the Manchester team will be creative midfield player Bruno Fernandes along with talented young strikers Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

Bayer Leverkusen

One team that is having a strong season at home and in the Europa League is Leverkusen. Their major strength lies in attack, where Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby have been very good for them. Of course, the real standout player is winger Kai Havertz who is a game-winner all on his own.

While they may not have the deepest squad to call on if injuries strike, they are still one of the top sides left in the competition. You feel they should have too much for Rangers again in their second Last 16 leg and go forward full of confidence.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers have upset the odds this year and have enjoyed their European adventure so far. Results like a 4-0 home victory against Espanyol in the first knockout round is evidence of this. The major advantage they have is manager Nuno Espírito Santo, who looks to be a great tactician.

The way the team plays is also perfect for European football as they are well-organized, like to pass it about, and are quick to break. Inter will have to watch out for striker Raúl Jiménez and pacey winger Adama Traoré if they do face Wolves.

Sevilla

With six wins out of five games in the group stages, and with such a strong record in the competition over the course of the last decade, Sevilla are always one of the ones to watch. With 14 goals scored in the group and only three conceded, they seem to have a good balance to their side.

They do meet Roma in a one-off Round of 16 tie in early August, and it will not be easy. If Sevilla does get past the Italian side, then you would have to fancy them to get to the final. Of course, this is a team that has won the Europa League multiple times before, and the experience will also work in their favor. They will need striker Munir and captain Jesús Navas at their best, though to stand a chance of going all the way.

Europa League in 2019/20 Could Be Inter’s

Although the Champions League campaign did not go to plan, Inter could still have a good season if they lift the Europa League trophy. If manager Conte can also make sure the team stays in the Champions League spots in Serie A, it will not be too bad a campaign overall. While the above teams show that there is plenty of action left in the Europa League yet, you still feel confident of Inter taking the trophy home.

Italian Media Report Inter Interested In Cagliari Duo Alessio Cragno & Nahitan Nandez

Inter have an interest in signing Cagliari duo Alessio Cragno and Nahitan Nandez according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper La Nuova Sardegna.

Cagliari have an interest in signing on loan Radja Nainggolan on a permanent basis and during talks between the clubs Inter could well ask about the Italian goalkeeper and Uruguayan midfielder.

Inter have drawn links to both players previously and could well add them to their ranks over the coming months as they look to bolster their team with a series of new signings.

The report from the Sardinia based news outlet goes on to explain that it cannot be excluded that Inter may already have an option to sign each player from the Rossoblu club.

This season Cragno has found playing time limited due to a shoulder injury but has made nine appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has kept a single clean sheet.

Nandez on the other hand has made 32 appearances, in which he has netted two goals and provided four assists.

Inter Have ‘Major Concerns’ Over Christian Eriksen, Marcelo Brozovic & Milan Skriniar’s Recent Performances

Inter have major concerns about the recent performances of Christian Eriksen, Marcelo Brozovic and Milan Skriniar according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Eriksen has been used sparingly since his arrival at the club in the January transfer window from Tottenham Hotspur and appears to have been relegated to being a luxury player.

As for Brozovic, the Croatian national team player has been both unrecognisable and apathetic as of late and has certainly not imposed himself like he typically does in recent matches.

Skriniar meanwhile looks like a shadow of the player seen in his first two seasons with Inter and has really struggled this campaign, especially when it comes to adapting to the three man defensive line.

A report elsewhere in the Italian media has went so far to suggest that the Slovakian’s future at Inter is no longer so certain.

Inter Striker Romelu Lukaku’s Physical Condition Will Become Clearer Today

Romelu Lukaku’s condition will become clearer today according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Belgian national team striker was seen clutching both his back and right thigh persistently shortly before being substituted near the end of last night’s 2-2 draw away to Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Following the match Inter manager Antonio Conte shared his hopes that it was nothing serious and it now remains to be seen what the extent of both injuries are with Inter certainly worried by the prospect of losing their top goalscorer.

Lukaku joined Inter in a club record €65 million transfer from Premier League side Manchester United this past Summer and has netted 26 goals in his first season with the club.

He has made 42 appearances across all competitions to date and in just under 3500 minutes, he has also provided five assists for his Nerazzurri teammates.

Samsung Could Replace Pirelli As Inter’s Main Shirt Sponsor As Nerazzurri Club Seek €25M/Year

Inter want at least €25 million a year from their new main shirt sponsor according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport.

The Nerazzurri club’s sponsorship deal with current main shirt sponsor Pirelli is due to expire at the end of next season and work is already underway when it comes to finding a replacement.

Korean electronics giants Samsung are one of the most prominent names under consideration and if they are not the new shirt sponsor it will be a Chinese company who have close commercial links to Inter’s owners Suning.

During this season Inter have agreed to 35 sponsorship deals across eight different commercial formats, 19 of which are with international companies and that figure is not including the six Asian market exclusive partnerships that the club have either.

The Asian exclusive partnerships involve Inter branded items such as credit/debit cards to sport watches and other electronic devices.
