Inter Legend Beppe Bergomi: “I Had COVID-19, I Was A Fool & Underestimated It”

Legendary Inter defender and former club captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has revealed that he has had Coronavirus and confessed that he underestimated the disease.

“I did a serological test and my result came back positive for IgG antibodies and negative for IgM antibodies. At the beginning of March, I was sick. I had problems with my sense of smell and in my back, but not with my lungs,” he explained in an Instagram Live chat with Italian television presenter Giacomo ‘Ciccio’ Valenti.

“Now, luck wanted me to have the antibodies, but they explained to me that it won’t protect me 100 per cent because the virus changes. If I am to get it again, I should get a lighter version.

“I wasn’t afraid, but I always felt cold, I had to use two heaters. I thought it was a flu, instead I was positive.”

He then went on to reveal that he was mocked by his friends who accused him of thinking too much about it all.

“My friends made fun of me and told me I was thinking too much about it, but I was not well, I was always in pain, I was weak. I couldn’t sit down because of the pain in my back, I was always on my feet.”

Next Bergomi, who spent his entire career with Inter, revealed he has now recovered and is doing a lot better.

“After a while, the pain went away, but everything lasted for 20 to 25 days. Now, I’m doing great, I started running again. I only did the serological test, I tried to do the swab, but they told me that after 30 days I should be OK.”

He then went on to explain how he underestimated the virus and admitted to continue working as Inter academy coach and football pundit through it.

“I was a fool, I underestimated it. On February 21, I had the last training session and one of the boys had pneumonia, from there on we didn’t play anymore.

“On February 26, I was in Naples to comment on the match against Barcelona, then I was in Perugia to watch the match against Benevento.

“In my opinion, I underestimated it before, I’ve been in too much contact with people.”

Bergomi came through the ranks at Inter and made his first team debut back in 1979. He would spend the following 20 years in the first team before hanging up his boots at the end of the 1998/99 season.

The now 56-year-old made 754 appearances across all competitions for the club, the second most appearances anyone has ever made for the club with only Javier Zanetti having managed more.

Racing Club President Victor Blanco: “Inter’s Lautaro Martinez Is Worth More Than €111M Release Clause”

In an interview with Italian news outlet FCInter1908.it, Racing Club president Victor Blanco has shared his belief that Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is worth more than the release clause in his current contract amid continued links to Barcelona.

“I am kept informed by those who are at his side but it is up to him to make a decision, we want the best for him. If Messi wants him it is very difficult to say no because Lautaro has great admiration for him,” he began the interview.

“There are great players in the Inter squad but he has become an indisputable starter. He is a world class player and among the top 10 in world for his quality and age. I believe he is worth more than his €111 million release clause.”

Blanco was then asked if Racing Club are hoping for him to make any particular decision given they could pocket close to €10 million if his release clause is triggered.

“We will be very respectful of the decision that he and his family will make. It is a personal matter that he must try to solve in the best way as he has done with all the decisions he has made in his short career. ”

He then cast his mind back to recall Lautaro’s transfer to Inter back in the Summer of 2018 with Inter pipping a series of other clubs to his signature.

“There was a lot of competition and a war between various clubs in Europe. He left negotiations in the hands of his agent and us at Racing, he trusted us.

“During the negotiations he came to me and told me to try and do a deal with Inter as he was convinced it was the best option for him.”

Since Lautaro’s arrival at Inter, he has went on to make 66 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 25 goals and tallied five assists for his teammates.

31 of those appearances have come during the course of this season in which he has scored 16 goals and provided a total of four assists.

Ionut Radu No Longer The Favorite To Become Samir Handanovic’s Back Up At Inter

Ionut Andrei Radu is no longer one of the front runners to become back up goalkeeper to Samir Handanovic at Inter starting from next season according to a report from Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Romanian shot stopper was initially seen as the front runner to be deployed as Handanovic’s deputy but Inter have other ideas for the position.

The report goes on to explain that the race is now between Udinese’s Juan Musso, Atalanta’s Pierluigi Gollini and Parma’s Luigi Sepe.

It now remains to be seen what will happen with Radu, who is currently out on loan at fellow Serie A club Parma.

Radu joined Parma on loan for the second half of the season but did not make any appearances for them prior to football being brought to a halt due to the Coronavirus crisis.

Radu spent the first half of the season out on loan at Genoa and during his spell with the Rossoblu club he made 19 appearances across all competitions.

German Media Claims No Contact So Far Between Inter & Bayern Munich Over Corentin Tolisso

There has been zero contact between Inter and Bayern Munich with regard to the possible transfer of Corentin Tolisso according to a report from German broadcaster Sky Sports Deutschland.

The 2018 World Cup winning midfielder wishes to leave the German Bundesliga club who need to raise money to fund moves for Manchester City’s Leroy Sane and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Bayern Munich have high demands for Tolisso but the report goes on to explain that Tolisso’s clear desire to move on to pastures new could make a difference if a club were to come in for him.

The former Lyon player has been with the Bavaria based club since the Summer of 2017 and he has since went on to make 68 appearances across all competitions for them, in which he has scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists for his teammates.

24 of those appearances have come during the course of this season as have three of the goals and five of the assists.

Valentino Lazaro More Likely To Return To Inter Than Stay With Newcastle United

Valentino Lazaro is more likely to return to Inter rather than join Newcastle United on a permanent basis according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

Lazaro joined the Premier League side on loan for the remainder of this season back in January with Newcastle United obtaining an option to buy him permanently for around €20 million.

Due to the Coronavirus crisis Lazaro has not played many games since his arrival at St James’ Park but in his five appearances for the Mapgies he has scored a single goal.

The report goes on to claim that Inter have already developed a strategy that is mutual beneficial for themselves and the Austrian national team full back.

Lazaro joined Inter in a circa €20 million deal from Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin this past Summer but struggled to cement a place in Antonio Conte’s team. He made 11 appearances for Inter, in which he tallied two assists.

Italian Media Reports Inter Have Taken No Steps Whatsoever Towards Resigning Man City’s Joao Cancelo

There is not even the slightest of margins for Joao Cancelo to make a return to Inter according to a report from Italian football journalist and transfer market expert Alfredo Pedulla.

Reports in the media in the past few days have suggested that Inter could bring in the Portuguese national team defender with funds raised through the possible sale of Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona.

However, as per a report which was published on Pedulla’s eponymous website, Inter have not taken any steps whatsoever toward bringing the current Manchester City defender back to the club who he spent the 2017/18 season on loan at from then employers Valencia.

At best he may have been offered to Inter via an intermediary but Inter have no interest in taking things any further and consider it a closed chapter.

This season the 25-year-old, who has a contract with the Premier League side until 2025, has made 24 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored one goal and provided a single assist too.
