Inter Defender Alessandro Bastoni: “Antonio Conte Has Given Me A Lot”

Inter central defender Alessandro Bastoni has sang the praises of Inter manager Antonio Conte for the faith he has shown in him throughout the campaign.

The highly rated Italian youth national team player has had his first team breakthrough at Inter this term and has largely impressed with his performances.

Bastoni is regarded as one of Inter’s best young players at the moment and he even managed to keep the vastly more experienced Diego Godin out of the side for a decent amount of time.

“Conte has given me a lot. I don’t know how many managers would have had the courage to give a 20-year-old their debut at Inter as he did with me,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on today.

He then added: “We are on a growth path and we are doing it together. We must continue all together on the same road.”

Bastoni joined Inter in August 2017 and spent the next season back on loan at Atalanta. He spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Parma and made his Inter first team debut earlier on this season.

The 21-year-old, who is contracted to Inter until 2023, has made 24 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored two goals.

British Media Claim Man City Spark Interest In Inter Linked Spurs Defender Jan Vertonghen

Manchester City have sparked an interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur central defender Jan Vertonghen according to a report in today’s print edition of British newspaper The Times.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is understood to be a big fan of the Belgian national team defender, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Vertonghen is one of three players that City have on their radar as they eye defensive reinforcement in the upcoming transfer window with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell also believed to be targets.

City are the latest club to have shown an interest in landing the former Ajax defender, who has also been linked with a potential switch to Inter in the past few months too.

This season the 33-year-old has made 29 appearances across all competitions to date. During his time on the park, he has scored two goals and provided one assist for his teammates.

Spanish Media Claim Barcelona’s One Step Closer To Signing Lautaro Martinez After Junior Firpo Accepts Inter Move

Barcelona full back Junior Firpo has said yes to a move to Inter according to a report from Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, which was aired a short time ago.

Barcelona are keen to sign Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and are prepared to offer the Spanish defender to Inter as part of a deal for the Argentine.

The two clubs have come to an agreement over Firpo’s value and that value is €41 million. Inter however want €70 million in addition to him and the report warns that Barcelona need to make a number of transfers in order to have such funds available to them.

This season 23-year-old Firpo has made 21 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored one goal and provided two assists in just over 1300 minutes on the field.

Lautaro, who is contracted to Inter until 2023, has meanwhile made 39 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored 18 goals and tallied six assists.

Diego Godin To Miss Inter’s Next Serie A Match Against SPAL Due To Suspension

Diego Godin will miss Inter’s upcoming Serie A clash with SPAL on Thursday night due to suspension, sporting judge Gerardo Mastrandrea has confirmed today following the conclusion of the latest round of Serie A action.

In last night’s 3-1 win over Torino at San Siro, in which he scored his first goal for the club, he picked up a booking and with it being his fifth booking of the campaign, he has earned himself an automatic one match ban.

Mastrandea has also confirmed that Inter central midfielder Marcelo Brozovic and centre back/wing-back Danilo D’Ambrosio are three and four more yellow cards away from earning a one match ban respectively.

Man of the match Alexis Sanchez and wing-back Cristiano Biraghi also picked up their first bookings of the Serie A season during last night’s match and will therefore receive a one match ban if they are to pick up four more yellow cards.

Inter Coach Antonio Conte Prefers Roma’s Edin Dzeko & Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud To Mario Mandzukic

Mario Mandzukic is not Inter’s first option when it comes to finding a back-up for Romelu Lukaku according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

The Croatian national team striker recently became a free agent after he terminated his contract with Qatar Stars League side Al Duhail.

Inter have shown an interest in the experienced 34-year-old but the report explains that Inter manager Antonio Conte currently prefers both Roma captain Edin Dzeko and Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud to him.

For the time being Inter have not made any move for Mandzukic and the report explains that they will make more in-depth assessments when it comes to the attack come August.

Mandzukic, who has also been linked to Fiorentina, is no stranger to Italian football having previously played for Inter’s arch rivals Juventus. Whilst at the Bianconeri he made 162 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored 44 goals and provided 18 assists for his teammates.

Italian Media Claim Inter Coach Antonio Conte Sent Clear Signal Christian Eriksen & Club After Benching The Dane

Inter manager Antonio Conte sent a precise signal to both Christian Eriksen and the club with his decision to once again start Eriksen on the bench in last night 3-1 win over Torino according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

The Danish national team attacking midfielder started on the bench for the second consecutive game and 35-year-old Borja Valero has been preferred to him in each of the games.

Inter brought Eriksen to the club in a four and a half year deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the most recent January transfer window and this report goes on to suggest that there is no chemistry between Eriksen and Conte.

Since his arrival at the club, the former Ajax player, who joined for circa €20 million, has made 16 appearances across all competitions to date, during which he has scored three goals and provided three assists for his teammates.

What We Learned From Inter This Week: “Handanovic Has Still Got It But Inter Need To Look To The Future”

What a frustrating week it has been if you are a Nerazzurri supporter.

Inter succumbed to their third defeat in eight Serie A games with a home defeat at the hands of Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Bologna. The Serb’s resolute side also came from behind to beat Inter with just ten men to further heighten the damage.

Inter travelled to the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi in the week to take on high flying Hellas Verona and were once again found frustrated.

Following an early lapse in concentration from Milan Skriniar, Inter found themselves behind to a Darko Lazovic goal at half-time. However, some excellent pressing straight from the restart saw Inter reverse the score into a 2-1 lead.

Tired legs began to set in and Miguel Veloso punished Inter with a late equaliser to cost the black and blue two points.

Monday night’s affair with Torino at San Siro threatened to go the same way as the visitors took a surprise early lead through Andrea Belotti capitalising on a rare Samir Handanovic error.

However, much like Verona, Inter came back hunting and goals from Ashley Young, Diego Godin and Lautaro Martinez saw them finish the week off with a win.

Now the recap is done, let us have a closer look at what we have learned over the past week.

Danilo D’Ambrosio Is Wasted At Wing-Back

Lazaro didn’t work out, Candreva is well..Candreva and Moses is lacking fitness and consistency so it is going to be nice next season to have Achraf Hakimi to come in and claim that role.

In the mean time, it is clear that Danilo D’Ambrosio is better served staying away from wing-back and playing on the right hand side of the back three.

His lack of pace, lack of ability to get up and down the flank to support both ends of the pitch makes him much more suited to playing in the three in front of Handanovic.

His tough tackling, body on the line and close marking make him a much stronger defender than attacker so he must be used solely as a defender.

For the remaining games, Candreva as wing back or Moses if he is fit should be the way to go.

Ashley Young Is Solid

Ashley Young arrived with little to no fan fare. Manchester United fans weren’t too fussed about him leaving and the fee and age of the man made it look a deal worth raising your eyebrows at.

However, his goal against Torino was his third in eight games for the club and his ability to put a wicked cross into the box causing havoc and creates a good opportunities for Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.

Defensively he looks sound and he’s certainly in great shape, outlasting pretty much any player on the pitch despite approaching his mid thirties.

Of Antonio Conte’s wing backs signings, Young has proven himself to be the best thus far and long may his current excellent form continue.

Handanovic’s Still Got It But Inter Need To Look To The Future

An average week for Samir Handanovic is usually solid and reliable to when he drops a clanger it gets noticed.

His error, cause by lack of flexibility than judgement against Torino reminded Intersti that we don’t have much long left in the Slovenian as a top level goalkeeper.

Yes keepers do go on more and Handanovic could make 40 and still play but that age isn’t miles away and looking around the club there is a distinct lack of cover or contingency planning in place should he start to decline.

Daniele Padelli and Tommaso Berni are merely bench warmers and the likes of Ionut Radu and Michele Di Gregorio who have been out on loan look as if they lack the talent to play in a Champions League side challenging for the Scudetto.

Juan Musso of Udinese has been mentioned and for sure it doesn’t need to be done tomorrow but Inter do need to start looking at the long term in terms of their goalkeeping department.

Christian Eriksen Dropped In Favour Of Valero?

This was mentioned briefly in last weeks column but this week just took the biscuit.

Borja Valero is by no means one of the worst players to have pulled in the jersey over the past few years but he is so past it and also looking likely to leave in the summer.

So why is Conte playing him every minute physically possible at the expense of brand new peak Christian Eriksen?

Eriksen may not have been excellent since his arrival in January but he is the long term option and has proven world class potential. He should be being used now to get him used to the club, his relatively new team mates and simply to create more chances.

Valero is the past and Eriksen is the future Mister Conte.

The Club’s Dodgy Emails & Conte’s Whining Aren’t Good PR

After a few poor results the manager seems to have built up a reputation for hanging his players out to dry and sniping at the club for not signing the players he wants.

Sure we can get into the debate that he should use the players at his disposal to better effect so that they are beating Verona and Bologna but simply his comments aren’t productive.

Less talk and more action Mr Conte as the club has backed you and are buying into your project by paying you handsomely.

As for Mr Zhang and co, there are so many useful videos on YouTube on how to send e-mails so they don’t end up in the wrong hands.

Leaking the clubs vision, plans and mistakes this term is not great. Luckily there hasn’t been much revealed from the leaks but it needs to be ensured that a repeat doesn’t happen.

Moving forward the manager and club need to ensure they are more savvy when dealing with the media and the wider community.

UK Tabloid Claims Man City Set To Go Head To Head With Barcelona Over Inter’s Lautaro Martinez

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is on Manchester City’s shortlist as they plan a major squad overhaul according to a report from the online edition of British newspaper The Daily Mail.

After their ban from the Champions League for the next two seasons was overturned yesterday by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the Premier League side are prepared to offer new deals to star players and invest heavily into bringing in new stars too, the report states.

Lautaro has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona but the Blaugrana club have struggled to meet Inter’s demands for the highly rated 22-year-old.

This season the Argentine national team striker has scored 18 goals and provided six assists for his teammates in 39 appearances across all competitions to date.

Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, Valencia’s Ferran Torres and Bayern Munich’s David Alaba, who has also been linked to Inter as of late, are all also understood to be on the Citizens radar.

Italian Media Claim A Christian Eriksen Departure From Inter This Summer Can’t Be Ruled Out

It cannot be excluded that Inter could sell Christian Eriksen or use as part of a deal to sign another player in the upcoming transfer window according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, which was aired a short time ago.

Eriksen only joined Inter in a circa €20 million deal back in January on a four and a half year deal but the Nerazzurri club could sensationally use him as a bargaining chip in the coming months.

The Danish national team player, who has four years left to run on his Inter contract has not exactly performed to expectations since his arrival and therefore could be shifted on to bring in another player who would make Inter manager Antonio Conte happy.

Since his arrival at Inter, the former Ajax player has made 16 appearances across all competitions to date. During his time on the park, he has scored three goals and has provided just as many assists for his teammates.
