D’Ambrosio: “Stick together to get results”

MILAN Danilo D’Ambrosio found time to speak to Inter Channel after coming on for the closing stages of tonight’s clash with Udinese: "For any player who loves this sport, taking part in the matches is obviously very important. I train hard every day, but a match is completely different. As I said, I wanted to come back with a positive result.

"The boss asked me which side I prefer to play on, and I said I was happy to play on either the left or the right. Whenever there’s someone missing or the coach needs a job doing, I’m available," explained D’Ambrosio.

There was a word for Federico Bonazzoli, who also made a late appearance during the Udinese match: "I’m pleased for Federico. He’s a great lad with a lot of talent, though of course he still needs to grow."

The Nerazzurri defender was keen to underline the importance of unity in this tricky time: "I think the team as a whole is more important than individuals. This is an especially tough league in a way, because it’s like every team has a sound tactical plan. The most important thing is to stick together in order to get results."

Kovacic: “We must listen to the coach and work harder”

MILAN – The Nerazzurri midfielder gave us his take on tonight’s disappointing defeat to Udinese: "We did well in the first half, but then I don’t know what happened after that. It was a tough match, though if we’d taken our chances in the first half then we would’ve won," he began.

"A coach can’t change everything in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we’re in one of those periods and we just need to look forward. We’ve got a good team but we’re making too many errors. We must listen to the coach and work harder," affirmed Kovacic.

Asked about his best position, the Croatian midfielder replied: "I’m comfortable playing on the inside left of midfield, or even further forward. But I need to improve. The most important thing is to do well wherever the boss asks me to play.

"Is there too much responsibility on me? No, I just concentrate on my game. I want to help the team. We’re not having a good spell at the moment, but let’s give Mancini time. Serie A is a very tough league, and every match is hard. We need to try and do better, one good half is just not enough," concluded Kovacic.

Mancini: “Great first half, but angry about the second”

MILAN – After a Jekyll and Hyde performance from Inter, coach Roberto Mancini gave his take on the match against Udinese tonight: "We played excellently in the first half, pushing forward with aggression. We should’ve scored more than we did, because we created a lot of chances. In the second half, there was a fifteen-minute period where we gave Udinese far too much room.

"Conceding goals is part of football, but games last 90 minutes. We scored first tonight and then let in an equaliser. At that point, we should’ve gone back to playing as we had done in the first half, but we couldn’t manage it. I don’t think it’s a question of fatigue, we just need to understand that there are various phases during football matches. Maybe the goals hit our morale – that can’t happen. We opened up too much and the defence was too deep. One goal shouldn’t change our attitude.

"I’m delighted with the first half, but I’m very angry about the defeat. You’re always going to sustain some blows over the 90 minutes of a football match, but a real team shouldn’t collapse.  Even in Rome, it shouldn’t have turned out how it did.

"The only thing we can do is roll up our sleeves and get to work. Sooner or later, things will change. I believe in what we’re doing because we played well in the first half and we’ve only been together for a couple of weeks. But ultimately we need to show more quality, because we let Udinese back into the game," concluded Mancini.

Udinese fight back to sting Inter

MILAN – Udinese will leave Milan with three points in the bag, having battled back to beat Inter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza tonight.

Mauro Icardi put the Nerazzurri ahead just before half-time, collecting an inch-perfect pass from Fredy Guarin to slot past Karnezis in the Udinese goal. Inter looked in total control of the match at the break, but there was to be a very different story in the second half.

First Bruno Fernandes fired home from outside the area, then on 71 minutes Udinese took the lead through Thereau. The French striker found himself one-on-one with Handanovic, and made no mistake in sidestepping the Inter goalkeeper to slot home.

Inter did what they could to force a way back into the game, but there was to be no reprieve.

Ausilio: “Mancini happy with response”

MILAN – Just a few minutes before kick-off between Inter and Udinese, Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio found time to speak to Sky Sport Italia.

"It’s great to see Stramaccioni and Stankovic again, though it’s quite strange them being on the opposing team," began Ausilio.

The subject of conversation soon turned to the transfer market: "My trip to London? Well, I finally got the chance to see something, because I’ve not had much time this year. Going to watch matches and players is part of my job.

"Mancini is still assessing his squad. He’s working on the lads and is happy with the way they’re reacting to that. When the Christmas break comes round in two weeks’ time, we’ll weigh up whether there’s work to do," he concluded.
