Gary Medel Samir Handanovic star as Inter Milan’s season sputters to finish

Mauro Icardi didn’t see enough of the ball and Inter failed to take their chances in a 1-0 loss versus Genoa. Inter travelled to Genoa in good form after disposing of Scudetto contenders Napoli 2-0 at San Siro. The Rossoblu were hammered by Carpi 4-1 in the last round and while they claimed that a heavy injury list was to blame, not least the excellent Mattia Perin who will miss Euro 2016, they still should have fought harder in this fixture. Inter however, started well and defended well as Gary Medel drifted into centre-back on more than one occasion and the full-backs pushed on. Rafa Benitez was sacked by Inter Milan in 2010. Tone of Inter Milan’s run-in to be set in Genoa clash

Both AC Milan and Inter Milan will be left to reflect on happier times in the Champions League, with neither side likely to qualify for next season's competition.

Whether the 2-0 victory against Napoli was Inter Milan's best performance of the season is up for debate, but it certainly was impressive. That win and Roma's subsequent last-gasp draw against Atalanta on Sunday has opened up the race for the Champions League spots again. The last games of the Serie A season could now be a real opportunity for Inter to realise their preseason goal of reaching Europe's elite competition.

Coach Roberto Mancini is certainly focusing on consistency between now and…
