Inter Defender De Vrij: “Man Utd Match Helped Us Learn Conte’s System More”

Stefan de Vrij admitted it would take Inter time to get used to their new 3-5-2 system after losing 1-0 to Manchester United in Singapore.

Mason Greenwood’s second-half strike split the sides as Antonio Conte’s men made their International Champions Cup debut.

De Vrij played 73 minutes and insisted the Nerazzurri had put in a good performace, despite the defeat.

“We’ll have a lot to improve on and learn from in a match like this,” the defender told Sportitalia.

“We’re playing with a different system compared to last season and we need these matches to get used to it. We’re working every day to ensure we do well this season.”

Inter’s next friendly match will be against Serie A rivals Juventus in Nanjing on Wednesday, before their tour concludes against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

They will then face two additional games, against Tottenham and Valencia, upon their return to Europe, before the new league campaign begins on 24 August.

Juventus Want Inter Striker Icardi To Wear Bianconeri’s No. 9 Shirt

Juventus have left their no. 9 shirt unassigned because they want Mauro Icardi to wear it this season, according to Tuttosport.

Gonzalo Higuain is still on the Bianconeri’s books after returning from Chelsea, but he was given the no. 21 for their preseason tour in Asia.

Icardi was left at home when Inter flew out to Singapore on Tuesday and will train alone at Appiano Gentile until they return.

The forward flew to Ibiza to join his wife Wanda Nara for the weekend, refusing to speak to reporters when they doorstepped him at the airport.

The situation surrounding Inter’s former captain is far from ideal for Antonio Conte, who yesterday told reporters the club were ‘behind schedule’ with their transfer business.

Juventus know Inter need to trim their squad and are waiting for Icardi’s price tag to drop, having agreed to sell Higuain to Roma in the meantime.

Napoli are trying to persuade Icardi to change his mind but at the moment he would only accept a move to Turin.

Tuttosport concluded: “That no. 9 shirt left free is a double message from Juventus: pushing Higuain away from them and bringing Icardi towards them.”

Man Utd’s €83 Million Price Tag For Inter Target Lukaku Is ‘Impossible’ For Nerazz urri

Inter cannot meet Manchester United’s €83 million asking price for Romelu Lukaku, Gazzetta dello Sport again reported today.

The Nerazzurri made an offer this week worth €65 million in total, but with payment split into several installments.

United have not responded officially yet but Inter are pessimistic about agreeing a deal for Lukaku, despite the forward’s absence from today’s friendly match in Singapore.

“It’s impossible for the Zhang family to reach the fee United are asking for,” Gazzetta said this morning.

“Inter have therefore had no choice but to start evaluating alternative options.”

Talks have begun with Lille for their 20-year-old forward Rafael Leao, who has been compared to Kylian Mbappe and is worth €40 million.

Juventus and Napoli are also interested in the Portuguese under-21 international, creating yet another obstacle for Inter to overcome.

Ante Rebic has different physical and technical characteristics to Lukaku and does not convince the Nerazzurri, while Edinson Cavani is a separate issue altogether.

El Matador is not a forward Inter are considering at present, but Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will be ready if they spot an opportunity to sign him from Paris Saint-Germain.

Cavani only has one year left on his deal with the French champions and might therefore be available for a relatively cheap fee.

Man Utd Showing No Sign Of Lowering Asking Price For Inter Target Lukaku

Inter’s bid to sign Romelu Lukaku remains an uphill battle as Manchester United are showing no signs of dropping their asking price, Corriere dello Sport reported today.

The Red Devils’ executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has told the Nerazzurri they must pay €83 million to sign the striker, who missed Saturday’s friendly in Singapore.

However, Inter would then have to pay an additional €5 million on top of that figure, because United must hand Everton €5 million of any fee they receive.

The clubs struck their agreement back when United signed Lukaku in 2017 and it would mean his price tag is effectively €88 million.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio unofficially submitted an offer worth €60 million plus bonuses this week, but this was rejected out of hand by United.

The Times yesterday claimed Inter had then increased their bid, but the Nerazzurri have denied making an additional offer.

Antonio Conte’s desperation to sign Lukaku obliges Inter to keep trying for the 26-year-old, but it remains to be seen how much money they can afford to spend.

Mauro Icardi’s sale would give them a hand in raising more funds, but the striker is in no hurry to make a decision on his future.

Joao Miranda will soon accept a move to Inter’s sister club Jiangsu Suning, but the deal will only be worth a small fee.

Lukaku missed Saturday’s friendly between the clubs in Singapore after sitting out United’s final training session, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told reporters there were ‘no updates’ on a move away.

Inter Will Complete Edin Dzeko Signing From Roma After Nerazzurri Finish Asian Tour

Inter will complete a deal to sign Edin Dzeko from Roma when they return from their preseason tour in Asia, Gazzetta dello Sport reported this morning.

The Bosnian has become the Nerazzurri’s new priority in attack due to the lack of progress in talks with Manchester United for Romelu Lukaku.

Roma currently want €20 million while Inter are offering €12 million, but the Giallorossi are giving off the impression they will soon drop their asking price.

Dzeko will not arrive in time to join Antonio Conte’s side in Asia but he will be available for selection after Inter’s third prestige friendly, against Paris Saint-Germain in Macau next Saturday.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will fly to Nanjing this weekend ahead of a transfer summit with Conte, Steven Zhang and Suning boss Zhang Jindong.

The pair will return to Milan thereafter and at that point they will close the deal with Roma, following a long standby in negotiations.

Dzeko is a close friend of Ivan Perisic but there is no guarantee they will be reunited in Milan, after Conte threw the Croatian’s future back into doubt yesterday.

Inter’s new boss told reporters he was still evaluating Perisic’s suitability for the left wing-back position in his 3-5-2 system, opening the door to a departure.

Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan will definitely not play for Conte this season, but neither are on the verge of joining new clubs.

Icardi flew to Ibiza last night where he joined up with wife and agent Wanda Nara, along with FIFA agent Gabriele Giuffrida.

Inter & Roma’s Deal For Dzeko Could Include D’Ambrosio & Florenzi As Well

Inter’s talks with Roma to sign Edin Dzeko could soon include Danilo D’Ambrosio and Alessandro Florenzi as well, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri are desperately looking for a striker to give to Antonio Conte, who has very limited options during the club’s tour in Asia this week.

Roma are considering offloading Florenzi, who played at right-back in Paulo Fonseca’s first game in charge last week, and would happily include him in a deal for Dzeko.

The Giallorossi’s sporting director Gianluca Petrachi is a big admirer of D’Ambrosio, however, and could ask for the experienced Italian in return.

Roma have prioritised signing a centre-back for the moment and are keenly following Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, but they are also seeking a right-back.

Napoli’s €20 million-rated Elseid Hysaj is a profile they are monitoring but Petrachi would need to find a buyer for Florenzi, who spent two years playing under Antonio Conte with the Italian national team.

Florenzi has yet to receive any enticing offers and it seems Inter are a destination worth bearing in mind.

Inter began talks with D’Ambrosio over a new deal earlier this summer, but no such renewal has been agreed yet.

The 30-year-old’s contract is currently to expire in 2021.

Inter Management Had Dinner With Conte To Reassure Nervous Coach

Inter’s management had dinner with Antonio Conte last night to reassure their nervous head coach, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri are in Singapore for the start of their preseason tour in Asia but Conte is worried about the club’s lack of progress in the transfer window.

Yesterday he told reporters Inter were ‘behind schedule’ and warned his employers to ensure they kept the promises made upon his appointment.

Conte was again informed of the difficulties involved in signing Romelu Lukaku, especially if Mauro Icardi does not leave first.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will join Conte, club president Steven Zhang and Suning’s owner Zhang Jindong in a larger transfer summit in Nanjing on Monday.

In the meantime, those present at dinner on Friday reassured Conte that Inter’s next three matches – against Manchester United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain – were only of relative importance.

“Conte is impatient and he doesn’t want to embarrass himself in preseason,” Gazzetta reported.

“It might only be July and they might only be friendlies, but Inter are playing prestigious opponents and will be watched on television around the world.”

Suning are determined to take Inter back to the top of European football but they are also determined to respect the Nerazzurri’s Financial Fair Play obligations.

The Chinese consortium do not want to make the same mistakes city rivals Milan made in previous seasons, which led to the Rossoneri’s exclusion from the upcoming Europa League.
