Ex-Inter Defender Thomas Helveg: “Eriksen Lacks Nothing & Has A Lot Of Quality, He Needs Time”

Former Inter and Danish national team defender Thomas Helveg has insisted that compatriot Christian Eriksen needs to be given time.

Eriksen joined Inter on a four and a half year deal in the most recent January transfer market from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur for circa €20 million.

Eriksen has shown glimpses of what he is capable of but for the most part he has left a lot to be desired with the majority of his performances.

Since his arrival at the Nerazzurri club, the 28-year-old former Ajax player has made 15 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored three goals and provided just as many assists for his teammates.

“Christian has absolutely nothing to do, he is a very calm boy and a champion can be expected to have a different character,” Helveg explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Musica Television show ‘Taca La Marca’ yesterday afternoon.

“He does not lack anything and he has a lot of quality. Christian is not the type of player who makes the difference on the first day. He needs time to get to know the enivornment. He is not someone who breaks through the door right away.”

Helveg spent a single season with Inter, the 2003/04 season. During his time with the club, the former AC Milan player made 32 appearances, in which he provided one assist.

Giorgios Karagounis: “Great Experience At Inter, Georgios Vagiannidis Has Real Potential”

In an interview with Italian news outlet Il Posticipo, former Inter midfielder Georgios Karagounis has reflected on his spell with Inter among other Inter related topics.

“After having played well with Greece, Inter came for me. In Milan I had two difficult seasons,” he began the interview.

“There were many great players in the team, but many problems too. When you don’t win, there’s so much pressure and it grows day by day. That was our case.”

He then reflected on his time with Inter as a while and admitted he met several great people whilst at the Nerazzurri side.

“Playing at Inter was a great experience. There were great people there, the staff was excellent. Moratti was a fantastic person. It was really nice for me.”

Next he went on to spoke what it was like to come up against Jose Mourinho’s Inter in the Champions League in 2008 when he was back at Panathinaikos.

“It was not easy to take on my former teammates at San Siro. It was a historic victory for Panathinaikos as we beat a very strong team led by Mourinho.

“With that success we ended the group in first place in front of the Nerazzurri. It was a great feeling for all of us. Being at San Siro was special, it always invokes good memories.”

He then discussed what he makes of the current Inter who are managed by former Italian national team boss Antonio Conte.

“Today I am following Inter and cheering for the team. Unfortunately after the last results I think it is difficult for the team to win the league.”

Karagounis then proceeded to speak on one of Inter’s latest recruits, compatriot Georgios Vagiannidis, and has insisted that Vagiannidis can be a success if he works hard.

“Unfortunately I don’t know him, because he has only played few times for the Panathinaikos first team and only once game in the Greek league.

“I have been told that Vagiannidis has real potential. We all hope he does well. He has joined a great team, we all know it’s not easy to impose yourself but when you are young, you can learn but if you work hard, you can do it. Vagiannidis has his future ahead of him.”

In conclusion he spoke on what it is like to be able to play for Inter Forever alongside some of his former teammates and other Inter legends.

“We all have fun together. It’s good to see old friends, we are happy to meet each other. There is a beautiful relationship between us. I like playing for Inter Forever, the games are always good.”

Ex-Inter Defender Francesco Colonnese: “Since January Inter Have Collapsed”

Former Inter defender Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Colonnese has reflected on Inter’s recent downturn in form which has seen them slip to fourth place in the Serie A table.

“After the first few months we said that Conte did a spectacular job. We should wait until the end of the year, there is still the Europa League to win,” he explained in an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio on Friday afternoon.

“Inter had not started out to win the Serie A title. Since January they have collapsed, it is necessary not to talk and work then at the end of the year the evaluations will be made. Something broke, there is no clarity.”

He then went on to insist that all the controversy that has been created does more harm than it does good and will not help solve anything.

“The controversy worsens the situation and it serves no purpose. If you continue like this, everything will fall apart.”

He was then asked about reports which have surfaced in the media which have suggested that Antonio Conte may not be in charge at Inter next season.

“Inter had an important transfer market this year and I do not know if they will manage to do it next year too. I do not know how it will go. I would like certain comments to be the offspring of the fact that Inter don’t want to spend a lot of money.”

“Inter’s transfer market was an important one, I’m not sure if they can repeat it the following season. I don’t know how it will go. I don’t want certain utterances to be born from the the fact that Inter don’t want to spend a lot of money.”

Colonnese joined Inter in the January transfer window of the 1997/98 season from fellow Serie A side Napoli and spent the next two and a half years with the club before departing for Lazio.

During his stint with the Nerazzurri, the former Siena defender made 80 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored two goals. He also won the 1997/98 UEFA Cup with Inter.

Tweet – Italian Journalist Fabio Ravezzani: “Antonio Conte A Great Coach If He Puts ‘Us’ Before ‘Me’”

Italian journalist and Italian broadcaster TeleLombardia director Fabio Ravezzani has shared his belief that Inter need to revise their current project and that Inter boss Antonio Conte remains a great coach.

Reports in the media, including one from Ravezzani himself, have suggested that former Italian national team boss Conte could potentially leave his post at Inter manager come the end of the season.

Since taking charge of Inter this past Summer, Conte has managed Inter in 42 games across all competitions and has won 24 of those matches.

Ravezzani posted: “For me Inter’s mistake was to heal by Conte’s feet (it was absurd that he imposed the abolition of the club hymn). The project needs to be revised, not cancelled. It’s enough to impose on him not to shoot everyone when he doesn’t win. He remains a great coach if he thinks about “us” before “me”.”

#ForzaInter 🔵⚫

Inter Legend Luis Suarez: “Inter Had A Duty To Compete With Juventus This Season”

Legendary Inter midfielder Luis Suarez has voiced his views on Inter’s recent poor form which has seen them slip to fourth place in the Serie A table and as good as lose any chance whatsoever of winning the Serie A title.

“The impression now is that now we do not know which way to turn. This situation is not normal, there was a clear involution and before the stop the form had been so-so,” he explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, earlier on today.

“Many points have been lost on the way and I think that even the club management and the coach find it difficult to find the right solution to the problem. There have been too many ups and downs.

“This year Inter had a duty to compete with Juventus until the end of the season but now I here that there are plans to change a lot for next year, but this is not positive. If you do this you must do it all right.

“What remains is the Europa League where one can hope in an exploit.”

The Spaniard was then asked whether Antonio Conte should remain in charge of the club amid reports that his future with the club is in question.

“I think the rumours about the coach are exaggerations. A manager does not determine if his side wins, it is the players who win.

“I have always maintained the idea that the coach must not do damage and that the difference is made by quality players. We must ask ourselves what the value of the squad is.

“I see players with little personality and lack of technical ability to aim very high. If the matches are go poorly, the players of a high level have to take control of the situation.”

“Everyone thought that with his arrival there would be wins but if you do not have the team you do not win. I would like to give another example. AC Milan are about to sack Pioli but to see the value of the coach I say they should leave the same team to Rangnick and then let’s see.”

In conclusion Suarez, who was part of the Grande Inter side of the 1960s, spoke on current Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen, who has struggled as of late.

“It is a strange situation. He played well in England and also in the national team. It could be an issue of character. Perhaps he cannot express himself in the role of leader and cannot fulfil these functions,

“It is one thing to play a normal part but it is another matter to be a guide both on and off of the field. Maybe he is not used to it. He has been a disappointment but in two months you do not forget how to play football.”

Two-time Balon d’Or winner Suarez joined Inter in 1961 from Barcelona and spent nine years with the club before moving on to Sampdoria, where he spent three years before retiring.

Whilst at Inter Suarez made 329 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored 55 goals and helped the team to win seven trophies.
