Ex-Inter Coach Jose Mourinho: “Didn’t Want To Say Goodbye To The Team After Winning The Treble”

In an interview with The Athletic, former Inter manager Jose Mourinho has reflected on leaving his position as Inter manager to become the manager of Real Madrid in the Summer of 2010.

Mourinho took charge of the Nerazzurri in 2008 and spent two memorable years in charge of club, the second of which he led the club to arguably the greatest achievement in their history, the treble.

“When I last spoke to Materazzi after the Champions League final it was like hugging all the players, which I tried not to do,” the current Tottenham Hotspur manager explained.

“I was on the field with them in the celebrations, when we received the medals and raised the trophy I was with them but then I didn’t go back to the locker room because I didn’t want to say goodbye.

“It was too difficult for me and I didn’t want to go with them back to Milan because people said I had a contract with Real Madrid. It wasn’t true.

“I had an agreement, but I had not signed a contract. I really wanted go to Real Madrid at that time. I really wanted to try to win the Spanish league title after winning the titles in England and Italy.”

He then went on to imply that had he returned to Milan with the team things could have turned out differently.

“I as afraid that if I returned to Milan with the team, and with the reaction of the players and the fans I would not be able to leave. I can say that I ran away. I ran away from them.

“A few days later, I signed the contract with Real Madrid and only later did I go back to Milan and I met President Moratti for dinner.”

He then spoke on the different perspectives that many of the players in the squad had that season with some at the end of their careers, some getting close to it, some in the middle and some just at the beginning.

“There are different perspectives for players when they are approaching the end of their career. There are players who just want to be there for another couple of years and earn a few million more before they leave.

“Then there are other guys with a different perspective which is: let me try to reach an important moment in my career, let me try to do something I’ve never done.

“It was really a fantastic achievement and one of the reasons I was so happy. I felt that my joy and my emotions were not for me, but for them. It wasn’t about winning my second Champions League, but about making their dreams come true.”

In conclusion, Mourinho revealed he could write a very long book detailing all that went on during his two years in charge of Inter.

“I could write a 1,000 page book on my two years at Inter. It may be that one day I will do it, but first I have to ask permission from the guys because there are many forbidden stories.”

Delio Rossi On Inter Linked PSG Striker Edinson Cavani: “He Would Do Well With Romelu Lukaku”

Former Palermo, Fiorentina and Lazio manager Delio Rossi has shared his belief that Edinson Cavani could have a good partnership with Romelu Lukaku if he were to join Inter.

The Uruguayan national team striker’s contract with current employers Paris Saint-Germain is due to expire at the end of next month and Inter are strongly interested in bringing him to the San Siro on a free transfer to bolster Antonio Conte’s squad.

Some reports have suggested that Inter have already tabled a contract offer to Cavani, who has spent the past seven years in the French capital city, where he has been absolutely prolific.

“Physically he is the strongest player I coached. After playing a game he could play another one. He is generous, intelligent and instinctive. I think he would do well with Lukaku. Cavani can adapt to anyone,” Rossi explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

In his time with Paris Saint-Germain, Cavani has made a total of 301 appearances across all competitions to date in which he has netted 200 goals.

This season the recently turned 33-year-old has made 22 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored seven goals and provided three assists for his teammates.

Torino Director Vagnati On Interest In Inter Duo Vecino & Gagliardini: “Not Time Now To Talk About Transfer Market”

Torino’s newly appointed technical director Davide Vagnati has insisted that now is not the time to discuss potential transfer window business.

Torino have been strongly linked with making a move for Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini and have also been recently linked to Matias Vecino too.

Reports in the media in recent weeks have suggested that Inter and Torino could conduct a swap deal involving Gagliardini for Armando Izzo, who Inter manager Antonio Conte is reportedly a big fan of.

“This is not the time to talk about the transfer market, but I have clear ideas, but now it would be stupid and foolish not to think about the next 13 games,” Vagnati remarked at his presentation press conference this afternoon as per Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

“We will evaluate well what we have and then when the time is right we will not back down and we will not be found unprepared.”

This season Gagliardini has made 16 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored two goals and provided a pair of assists for his Nerazzurri teammates.

Izzo has meanwhile made 29 appearances across all competitions for La Granata, who value him at €25 million. In just shy of 2600 minutes on the park, the Italian national team centre back has scored three goals.

Inter Legend Marco Materazzi: “I’ll Forever Thank Zlatan Ibrahimovic For Helping Me Win The Champi ons League By Going To Barcelona”

In an interview with Argentine broadcaster TNT Sports earlier on today, legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi reminisced about Inter’s historic treble winning season in 2009/10.

“It is nice to remember the moments lived with your teammates. When one plays and wins you don’t look behind, instead when the years go by you notice what you have done,” he began the interview.

“It was a very difficult task to achieve but when you grow up you give it more weight because you realise that it is something special.”

Next he discussed Jose Mourinho, who led Inter to the historic achievement.

“One of Mou’s best skills was to make everyone feel included. Mourinho knows everything about everyone and always says the right things. He was brilliant at that. He was the manager who influenced me most in my own managerial career. I was lucky to have had him near the end of my career.”

Materazzi proceeded to discuss former Inter teammate Ronaldo and some of the other big names who he played alongside.

“When I arrived at Inter the first time I was trembling to see certain players. Before my medical examination, I saw Ronaldo on the exercise bike. He had the nature of Messi and the physicality of Ronaldo. He did everything at two hundred miles per hour.

“I was also lucky enough to play with Totti, Del Piero, Crespo, Eto’o, I can say I crowned a childhood dream.”

He then spoke on Mario Balotelli and what he thought of the current Brescia striker when he was coming through Inter’s ranks.

“It is not true that he did not like to train. I have never saw the quality that Mario had at 16-years-old in anyone. He did not do normal things. He is the first to know that he did not express his potential because at 18-years-old he had won everything. He did not keep his initial promises.”

In conclusion Materazzi was asked about the rumoured rivalry between himself and former Inter teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“It is not true that there was rivalry. I will thank him forever, because if he had not gone to Barcelona, Eto’o would not have come. He helped me win the Champions League.”

The 2006 World Cup winner joined Inter in the Summer of 2001 from fellow Italian club Perugia and spent the next decade on the clubs books. In his time with the club, Materazzi made a total of 276 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he scored 21 goals and tallied three assists.
