Italian Media Reports Why Inter & Chelsea Target Dries Mertens Decided To Stay At Napoli

Dries Mertens will put pen to paper on a contract extension with Napoli and has several reasons for doing so according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

In the past week or so, Mertens appeared pretty much certain to leave Napoli for Inter at the end of next month once his contract expires but the Belgian national team attacker instead looks set to prolong his stay in Naples, where he has played his football since 2013.

The Skype call yesterday with club management was decisive in Mertens decision as was manager Gennaro Gattuso, the affection shown to him by the fans and the offer, which consists of a two year extension worth €5 million a year plus a €2 million signing on bonus.

This season the recently turned 33-year-old has made 29 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 12 goals and provided a total of six assists.

Barcelona View €111M Rated Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez As A Strategic Signing For The Future

Barcelona management remain convinced that now is the right time to sign Inter striker Lautaro Martinez according to a report on the online edition of Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The Blaugrana club’s management view the signing of Lautaro as a strategic one given he will be able to lead their line for at least the next ten years.

Lautaro has a €111 million release clause in his contract but this report reiterates that Barcelona do not want to pay that much and would instead insert some players to bring the cost of any deal down.

Reports elsewhere in the media have suggested that Barcelona have offered a bumper €10 million a year deal to the player, who has accepted the offer.

It remains to be seen whether the two clubs will end up striking a deal in the end given Inter’s reluctance to do a deal for the 22-year-old on anyone’s terms but their own.

Inter Could Be Forced To Send Joao Mario Out On Loan For Another Season

Joao Mario will not be purchased outright by Lokomotiv Moscow and will therefore return to Inter once his loan deal expires according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.

The Portuguese national team midfielder joined the Russian Premier League side on a season long loan this past Summer with an €18 million option to buy attached but the club have confirmed they cannot afford to sign him as a result of the impact that the Coronavirus crisis has had on their finances.

Upon his return to Inter, the 27-year-old will have a value of €13.6 million against the clubs books and a contract until the end of the 2021/22 season.

It is possible that he could be sent out on loan given that Real Betis and Marseille, who both showed an interest in signing him permanently, no longer appear interested in him.

This season he has made 15 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored one goal and tallied four assists.

Italian Sports Minister Spadafora: “If Number Of New Infections Continue To Fall We’ll Be Able To Give A Date When The Serie A Can Resume”

Italian government minister for sport and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora has shared his hopes for the 2019/20 Serie A season to resume as soon as possible.

Last week the Lega Serie A set June 13 as a provisional date for the season, which has been on hold for over two months due to the Coronavirus crisis, to resume.

However, all Italian football federation (FIGC) led activity, including Serie A, has since been suspended up until June 14 meaning June 15 will be the earliest possible date for the campaign to get back underway.

“We all hope to return as soon as possible, but at the moment we still have no guarantees. If, as we hope, the number of new infections continues to fall then, it will be possible to confirm a date for the resumption of Serie A,” Spadafora remarked in an interview with Italian news agency ItalPress.

“We have however got to get there gradually and move both cautiously and with responsibility, as we have done up until now.”

He was then asked what would happen in the event that a player was to test positive for the Coronavirus once the season resumed, if it does.

“It could primarily compromise their health and that of people close to them, including that of the many workers linked to the team.

“It is therefore not just a sporting issue. I understand that in the event of a positive case among players, a further stop could have a decisive impact on the continuation of the matches.

“For this reason we are considering all the possible solutions validated by the doctors. The goal we must achieve is not only to restart the season, but to be able to end it. ”

Spadafora, who has held his position since 2018, then went on to discuss the financial aid that the Italian government are set to provide the sports industry.

“The world of sport has been seriously damaged by the health emergency. The big clubs have been damaged as well as the smaller teams and they need a hand to start again.

“Being aware of these difficulties, we have prepared the largest investment that the sports world has ever seen: €1 billion between ordinary and extraordinary resources.

“In preparing this plan, we have taken into account the advice and reports that have come to us and we will not hesitate to intervene again where necessary.”

Diego Godin’s Decision To Stay Forces Inter To Put Deals For Tottenham’s Vertonghen & Hellas Verona’s Kumbulla On Hold

Diego Godin will not leave Inter in the upcoming Summer transfer window according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Not only has the Uruguayan not received any offers to move elsewhere but he is also not wanting to throw in the towel on his Inter career after just one season with the club.

Godin remains convinced that he can do better and wishes to stay and try again having faced a number of difficulties in his first campaign with the club.

For this reason, Lazio are now leading the race to land Hellas Verona’s Marash Kumbulla and Inter have put a move for soon to be free agent Jan Vertonghen on standby.

The report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to add that Inter have no intention of letting Milan Skriniar depart the club amid reported interest from elsewhere.

Inter will also extend the contract of Danilo D’Ambrosio by a further season to 2022 and allow Andrea Ranocchia to see out the remainder of his contract with the club.

Lazio Ask Hellas Verona For Discount On Inter Linked €30M Rated Marash Kumbulla

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare wishes to finalise a deal for Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Kumbulla has shown a willingness to complete a move to the Italian capital but Lazio are reluctant to meet Hellas Verona’s asking price for the highly rated Italian born Albanian international centre back.

As per the report the Veronese based outfit are demanding €30 million for Kumbulla but Lazio would like to get a discount on him, despite the fact Inter are also interested in signing the 20-year-old.

Kumbulla has had a breakthrough at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi club this term and has cemented himself as one of the most promising young defenders in Serie A.

This season he has made 19 appearances across all competitions to date and in his time on the park, he has contributed a single assist and helped his team to keep many clean sheets.

Inter To Use Funds Raised From Selling Mauro Icardi To PSG To Sign Juventus Target Sandro Tonali

Mauro Icardi being purchased outright by Paris Saint Germain will be fundamental for Inter’s Summer transfer window according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.

The 27-year-old is currently out on loan at the recently crowned French champions, who can sign him up on a permanent basis for a sum of €70 million.

Paris Saint Germain have until the end of the month to take up that option and the report goes on to explain that Paris Saint Germain sporting director and former Inter manager Leonardo would like Inter to grant them a discount for the Argentine.

Inter could well open up to giving a discount given that it looks unlikely that either Ivan Perisic or Joao Mario will be bought by Bayern Munich or Lokomotiv Moscow.

The report goes on to explain that with the money raised through the sale of Icardi, Inter will go in for Brescia’s Sandro Tonali.

As per the report, Inter are ready to offer to take Tonali on loan for a season at a cost of €5 million with a €30 million obligation to buy attached. Inter will also throw in Sebastiano Esposito on loan as a sweetener for La Rondinelle.

The report concludes that should Icardi stay in Paris, Edinson Cavani’s time with the club will be over. The Uruguayan’s contract is due to expire at the end of next month and he has been linked with Inter and Atletico Madrid.

Italian Media Reports Joao Mario, Ivan Perisic & Valentino Lazaro Could All Return To Inter In The Summer

Inter could lose out on a significant amount of money due to the Coronavirus crisis according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Joao Mario, Ivan Perisic and Valentino Lazaro have all joined clubs on loan with options to buy this season but the pandemic has caused the loaning clubs to think twice about signing the players outright.

Joao Mario’s loan club Lokomotiv Moscow and Perisic’s loan club Bayern Munich have made it clear they do not want to pay €18 million and €20 million respectively and Newcastle United may end up thinking twice about Lazaro too, who they can sign permanently for €23.5 million.

Mauro Icardi joined Paris Saint Germain on a season long loan with €70 million option to buy attached and both he and the French club want to continue with one another past the end of this season.

The newly crowned Ligue 1 champions would however like a discount on the 27-year-old Argentine. Whilst Inter do not want to give a discount they also do not want to run the risk of losing out on a potentially big cash sum so may give in eventually.

Fiorentina President Commisso On Future Of Inter Linked Duo Chiesa & Castrovilli: “We’ll Talk In A Month”

Fiorentina president and owner Rocco Commisso has admitted that in the coming weeks the futures of both Federico Chiesa and Gaetano Castrovilli can be talked about amid continued speculation in the media.

Chiesa has been heavily linked with moves to both Inter and Juventus for a considerable amount of time now whilst Castrovilli has also been linked to the Nerazzurri and Bianconeri clubs among others.

Commisso has previously admitted that the club will allow Chiesa to depart if they receive what they deem to be the right offer for the highly rated 22-year-old winger, who is widely regarded as one of the best young Italian players out there at the moment.

He has however not been so open to letting Castrovilli, who has a contract until the end of the 2023/24 season, leave the club.

“The futures of Chiesa and Castrovilli? Well I am exposed like no one else in Italy but I will not give my final verdict on this to Juventus, Inter, Milan or Roma. In a month to a month and a half’s time we will talk,” American Italian businessman Commisso remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset earlier on this afternoon.
