Nerazzurri Treble Hero Wesley Sneijder: “Inter Was My Best Period As A Footballer”

In an interview with Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, former Inter player Wesley Sneijder has revealed he would like to be like both Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal as a manager.

“Jose Mourinho or Louis van Gaal? I hope I can become a combination of both. Maybe with the human side of the former and van Gaal’s knowledge, although Mourinho was also tactically skilled. With Mourinho the spark started immediately at Inter,” he explained in the interview which appeared in yesterday’s print edition.

He proceeded to recall being snubbed by van Gaal in the days leading up to Inter beating Van Gaal’s Bayern Munich side in the Champions League final in 2010 to secure a historic treble win.

“The day before the final, Mourinho, Zanetti, Milito, Cambiasso and I went to the press room and at that moment Bayern left the pitch.

“Mourinho and van Gaal shook hands. I also held out my hand, but van Gaal ignored me despite having seen my hand, I am sure. So I said to him: “We will meet tomorrow after the final that we will win”. We won 2-0 and I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.

“I said to him, ‘Didn’t you want to be smart yesterday? I just wanted to shake your hand.’”

He then went on to rank van Gaal and Mourinho on the list of managers he worked under during his playing career.

“van Gaal is in my top three, but Mourinho is my number one. Inter was my best period as a footballer.”

Sneijder joined Inter in the Summer of 2009 from Spanish giants Real Madrid and spent the next three and a half years with the club prior for departing Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray.

The former Ajax player made 116 appearances across all competitions for Inter in which he scored 22 goals and provided 35 assists for his teammates.

Tommaso Berni Suspended For 1 Match After Red Card For Insulting Referee In Inter’s Win Over Parma

Sports Judge Gerardo Mastrandrea has today ruled that Tommaso Berni will serve a single match suspension after being sent off against Parma on Sunday night.

The veteran goalkeeper was sent off during the match at the Stadio Ennio Tardini for comments made regarding a decision made by referee Fabio Maresca, comments that were picked up by the fourth official and passed on to Marseca.

This is the second time this season that Berni has found himself sent off and quite astonishingly he has managed to be sent off more times than he has made appearances for the team. He will therefore be unavailable for selection for Wednesday’s match against Brescia.

In his report, which detailed the events of this past round of Serie A action, Mastrandrea also confirmed that Inter duo Diego Godin and Roberto Gagliardini are now just one booking each away from having to serve an automatic one match ban for accumulation of yellow cards.

Italian Media Criticizes Inter’s Christian Eriksen For Performance Against Parma

In today’s print edition, Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport have published their players ratings from Inter’s 2-1 win over Parma and have been critical of Christian Eriksen.

Victor Moses was next best with a 6.5/10 rating whilst Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij, Nicolo Barella, Ashley Young and Lautaro Martinez were all handed 6/10 ratings.

Romelu Lukaku, Diego Godin and Roberto Gagliardini have all received 5.5/10 ratings whilst Danilo D’Ambrosio and Antonio Candreva were both given 5/10 ratings.

Roma Leading Race To Sign Inter Linked PSG Striker Edinson Cavani

Roma are leading the race to sign Edinson Cavani according to a report from Uruguayan journalist Gonzalo Ronchi, who works for Uruguayan news outlet Sport890.

Cavani is set to depart Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires and as per Ronchi’s report, the coming week will be key for the veteran striker’s transfer to the Giallorossi club.

Cavani had been offered a short term contract extension from Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the season to enable him to play in the latter stages of the Champions League but he knocked it back.

To date, the three year contract offer from the Giallorossi is the main offer that the former Napoli striker, who has drawn links to Inter and Barcelona among many others clubs as of late, has received.

The 33-year-old forward has made 22 appearances across all competitions to date this season and in his time on the park he has scored seven goals and provided a total of three assists to his teammates.

Chelsea New Boy Timo Werner: “I Could’ve Signed For Inter, Man Utd & Liverpool”

New Chelsea signing Timo Werner has confirmed that he had the possibility to join Inter among many other top European clubs rather than go to the Blues.

In the past few weeks the German national team forward secured a move from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig to the Premier League outfit and he will link up with his new team just shortly with the Bundesliga campaign having concluded this past weekend.

“Inter, Manchester United and Liverpool wanted me? Yes, I could have gone to these teams too. The best clubs fought for me,” he explained in an interview with German news outlet SportBuzzer.de.

He then went on to explain why he opted for a move to Chelsea over the clubs he mentioned above and admitted that money was not a factor in the decision that he came to.

“The entire Chelsea package in the end, however, turned out to be the best in my career. Money played a marginal role.

“For me, money was never a decisive factor, otherwise I could have gone to China. Chelsea is a leading club in European football. There is a team of great quality, we want to get to the top. I don’t regret my decision for even a second.”

This season the 24-year-old has made 45 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, which totals just shy of 3600 minutes, he scored a very impressive 34 goals and also provided his teammates with 13 assists.
