VERONA – Inter made light work of Chievo this evening with a comfortable 0-2 victory. There was a pulsating start to the match, with both teams creating chances to score. Nonetheless, Kovacic would make the hosts pay for some indecisive defending on 19 minutes, gathering the ball in the area to slot home. Verona tried to respond, and Meggiorini was unlucky when his stunning bicycle kick was kept out by an inspired Handanovic.
The second half started evenly, but the hammer-blow came just ten minutes after the restart. D’Ambrosio fired the ball into the box and Ranocchia thought fastest to pounce on the loose ball and sweep it home. There was to be no reprieve for Chievo, who were reduced to ten men on 72 minutes after some needless petulance from Ruben Botta, who’d only been on the field for eight minutes.
