Inter, niente piazza d’Armi: burocrazia e costi alti – GdS

Zhang-Inter-Suning.jpg

SempreIntercom Player Ratings Udinese 0-4 Inter: Brozovic Masterclass Helps Inter Thrash Udinese

After a difficult outing last week at home, Inter got the perfect remedy. A 4 goal victory was exactly the pick-me-up Spalletti’s men were looking for and showed their hunger for it from the get go. Lets see who all stood out at the Dacia Arena:

Samir Handanovic – 7: That save on Lasagna kept our season alive. It proved to be more important when Rafinha bulged the net at the other end. Best game in a cap.

Joao Cancelo – 7: Silky skills on the ball but some of his passing and running need to be worked on as he left us in trouble with it. Great player to watch though.

Milan Skriniar – 7: Miranda pulled up during the warm up so Skriniar had to switch sides in defence. Never looked in trouble or out of place. Superhuman ability.

Andrea Rannochia – 7: Great goal to open the scoring. Made 1 major mistake that Handa bailed him out off. Got beaten by Lasagna’s pace but no trouble was caused.

Dalbert – 6.5: Many Interisti were glad to see him play. He didn’t start of well, struggled against high balls but played much better as the game went on.

Borja Valero – 6.5: Borja did what was needed with minimum fuss. When he found the ball in front of the goal he scored as well. Huge confidence boosting goal

Marcelo Brozovic – 7.5: Can #EpicBrozo be the midfield general we have been looking for the best part of a decade? He was masterful and barely put a foot wrong.

Antonio Candreva – 5.5: Candreva started bright in the afternoon sun but his performance sank like the setting sun. Made basic errors and was wasteful with shots.

Rafinha – 7: Signing Rafinha has to be on of Ausilio’s best moves. It might even prove to be a master-stroke. He looks better with each game. Finally on the scoresheet too!

Ivan Perisic – 6: Needs to be a little more decisive with the ball. Did a lot of tracking back as well and was acing it defensively. Fofana stamp slowed him down

Mauro Icardi – 7: Mauro scored but his best moment came in setting up that Rafinha goal. Used all his strength and ability to get the Brazilian in. Complete.

Davide Santon – 6: After the week he’s had Davide got the basics right and the fact that we were 3 goals up helped him settle and do it. Not sure about his stay.

Karamoh – 6: Should have scored. He’s hit the cross bar more times than the net this season but looked very lively in his 10 minutes on the pitch. Starter?

Eder – N/A: Didn’t have much time to do anything but could and should have an assist credited to his name. Too bad that Karamoh couldn’t score that.

Luciano Spalletti – 7: The team was ready and hungry for the win. Not an easy task considering the week that has gone by. Great subs. Schooled Tudor all game long

Paolo Mazzoleni – 7: Any ref looks better than Orsato at the moment. Got the major decisions right and didn’t really have many tough decisions to make.

Inter – 7.5: Three more points keeps the candle of hope burning. Great performances all around the pitch and the game was wrapped up at half time.

Agree? Disagree? Should we start Karamoh against weaker teams? Please let us know in the comments below or over on social media @SempreIntercom

Terzo Tempo: The Dream Lives On

Inter played Udinese in what was a very important game in regards to keeping the Champions League dream alive. Spalletti lined up slightly differently today out of the back which saw Ranocchia slot in for Miranda. A long side him the Inter world was finally given a chance to see Dalbert start again from the beginning which seems to provide a lot to Inter’s game that the other left backs just can’t seem to get going for them. The midfield saw Borja Valero and Brozovic line up in the defensive midfielder roles while the rest of the team filled up with the regular starters.

What the addition of Dalbert is able to do is to really stretch the game wider than D’Ambrosio and Santon. The game doesn’t only become wider but the switches are quicker because while Santon and D’Ambrosio have to take a touch with their dominant right foot and either move wide or cut central Dalbert can take the touch on his dominant left foot and strive into space. This saves precious seconds on a counter attack for example, once the first touch is pushed around the opposing defender, Dalbert has the choice to carry or use his central options while Inters other alternative left backs usually cut to make that central pass or force that unlikely week foot cross which sometimes demoralizes the team after to many failed attempts.

In regards to the Inter’s front half, once again, Brozovic was the absolute anchor giving everything until the 90th minute to be able to secure the victory even though it didn’t look for one minute that the team would slip up. Everything went well even in front of Brozovic which saw Icardi come in deep to hold up the ball and distribute out wide to his wingers or for Rafinha to carry the ball forward. Inters success has come in the games where Icardi gets involved more whether he’s scoring or just generally involved in turning the ball. The only thing that’s certain is a participating Icardi nearly always leads to a dominant Inter.

What’s important to notice about this game is that even though Udinese are a team fighting against relegation, the fact that Inter was able to consistently, for 90 minutes, dominate is something that is coming along with time very well. Inter always struggled with dropping points to lower or middle table teams and games like today are very reassuring to the club. It’s days like Sunday’s that make the Champions League drive live on and with the result, the dream very much, lives on too.

Zanetti: “Inter Deserve Champions League Qualification”

Javier Zanetti has praised Luciano Spalletti for the job he has done at Inter this season and believes the Nerazzurri would deserve to secure Champions League qualification.

The Nerazzurri are currently two points behind fourth-placed Lazio with just two rounds left in Serie A, but they will guarantee themselves a place in Europe’s top club competition for the 2018-19 campaign if they win both of their remaining games.

Speaking at the Volvo Studio in the centre of Milan, vice-president Zanetti said that Spalletti deserves credit for the work he has done during the campaign and also hailed Marcelo Brozovic’s upturn in form in recent weeks.

“He’s been able to create a united group with functional players,” he said. “He, his staff and the guys deserve to make the Champions League. They’re doing an excellent job despite the tough moment that we went through.

“Brozovic has recovered like a great player after having some difficulties and it’s not easy to get back to the level he is at now. We’re happy that he can express himself, it’s benefiting the team.”

Zanetti also touched upon Inter’s controversial defeat at home to Juventus on 28 April, suggesting that it was not the first time they have been unfairly penalised in matches against the Bianconeri.

“We played a great game against a great team. Unfortunately, once again there were individual episodes which hurt us. Football moves on, we can’t do anything. It’s pointless to get hung up on it if everything moves on.”

Brozovic Has Changed Inter & Become Unsellable

Marcelo Brozovic’s upturn in form has been the most important factor in Inter’s resurgence over the past two months, according to Tuttosport.

The Nerazzurri have well and truly overcome their mid-season crisis and remain firmly in the hunt to secure Champions League qualification for the 2018-19 campaign, with reasons for their revival including a rock-solid defence and the upturn in form of players such as Mauro Icardi, Ivan Perisic and Rafinha.

However the Turin-based outlet believe that Luciano Spalletti’s decision to start playing the Croatian in a deeper midfield role has been the most important factor of all.

“If the Nerazzurri have rediscovered themselves then they owe it in part to Spalletti’s move to use Brozovic as a playmaker,” they wrote on Tuesday.

“Brozovic has been the embodiment of Inter’s ‘Pazza Inter’ tendency over the last few seasons: tactically anarchic, mercurial, capable of magic moments but also terrible decision-making. In a word, inconsistent.

“And that was how it was under Spalletti too until 11 March, when the head coach started him as part of Inter’s two-man midfield for the game against Napoli. Some thought it would be tactical suicide, but it’s ended up being the right decision which has changed the complexion of Inter’s season.”

As well as helping the team out of their mid-season slump, though, Brozovic’s remarkable turnaround in form will also have ramifications on Inter’s transfer plans for the upcoming summer.

“Brozovic is now a reference point in this team and he probably will be in the future too, unless someone turns up and offers to pay the player’s €50 million release clause.

“After considering the idea of selling him for a long time Inter are now having second thoughts, because this Brozovic is a guarantee for them and would save them from having to seek out a midfielder who can dictate the tempo of games from midfield.”

Inter Keen On Barella & Strootman For Next Season

Inter have identified Nicolò Barella and Kevin Strootman as their two primary targets in midfield ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Barella has made 32 appearances in Serie A for Cagliari this season and scored 6 goals in the process, while Strootman has been part of the Roma team that is set to finish above the Nerazzurri in third place this season.

Inter are thought to be interested in both and would look to use some of their academy players to lower Cagliari’s asking price for the former, with Financial Fair Play restrictions impeding them from spending exorbitant amounts of money on transfer fees.

“Barella’s future will depend upon whether or not Cagliari are able to avoid relegation from Serie A this season,” the Italian news outlet wrote on Tuesday.

“The Sardinians have promised the Nerazzurri that they will not sell the midfielder [to anyone] until the two clubs have met to discuss a potential deal.

“In such a deal Inter could include some of their young players like Pinamonti, Odgaard, Emmers or Zaniolo, in order to limit the amount of cash they would have to pay.

“As far as Strootman is concerned, Inter have been pursuing him for a while: the player’s €32 million release clause could be lowered by including another player in the deal.”

Former Midfielder Dabo: “I Will Always Be Grateful To Inter”

Former Inter midfielder Ousmane Dabo has said he will ‘always be grateful’ to the Nerazzurri for having brought him to Italy as a youngster.

Dabo signed for Inter aged 21 in the summer of 1998 after beginning his professional career at French side Rennes, but he would later to go on to play for four other Serie A clubs in Vicenza, Parma, Atalanta and Lazio.

The Biancoceleste enjoyed his services the longest with the midfielder completing five seasons at the club, but Dabo insisted he also had happy memories during his time at Inter, despite making just 13 appearances before departing in 1999.

“I have a lot of good memories from my time in Italy,” he told Sky Sport 24 on Tuesday. “I gave my all everywhere I went.

“It’s true that I spent six years in Rome and am therefore most attached to Lazio, but I was happy wherever I went: like at Inter, because they were the team who brought me to Italy. I will always be grateful to them for that.”

Dabo also touched upon Lazio and Inter’s probable Champions League showdown at the Stadio Olimpico on 20 May, saying ‘it will be a beautiful game to watch’.
